* Disappointing end to an otherwise good 1st year for CMP and the Cats getting to the Sweet 16 despite a season of injuries that affected continuity. Some great wins this year, but reliably inconsistent over any given stretch of games. Unfortunately, tonight, against the Vols, was one of those clunker games. It was a year of what ifs had the Cats been healthy with a full roster. Cats not the same offensive threat without Robinson.

* The Cats have struggled on the offensive end at times against pressure defense that pushes our offense out beyond the 3pt line, and when you don’t show up ready to go and the shots aren’t falling, you dig a hole that you can’t overcome. The game was essentially decided in the first 10 minutes … before the Cats decided to break a sweat. The Cats lose the first SEC vs SEC game of the current tournament.

* The start of the game foretold the story of the game, Brea misses a wide open layup, and we give an offensive rebound on the defensive end. The Cats were crushed on the glass (+10). Gave up 14 offensive rebounds, and the rebounds we did get were allowed to hit the floor before we got it … the Vols seemingly got every loose ball.

* Vols took away the Cats 3pt game (6-15, +3, as opposed to 12-24 in each of the prior 2 wins) and the Cats struggle to score off the bounce … that’s been our vulnerability in our losses. CMP has to change that next year, can’t have the offense get bogged down by pressure defense.

* Unsurprisingly, 3 of our best athletes, Oweh, Butler, and Williams …did most of the production tonight. To the Vols credit, Brea was a non-factor, as Butler was our only 3pt (4-5) threat tonight.

* Off Topic - Rivals has to recognize in big games that UK fan volume will spike and there is a long history of crashing the site. Has to be better planning and prep for these expected events.

* Up Next: The off-season picks up quick. Several players are out of eligibility (Williams, Butler, Carr, Brea, Almonor, Robinson), will miss those dudes and thank them for what they gave the program, Kerr may leave, presumably Oweh, Garrison, Chandler, Noah, Perry return. 3 freshmen currently coming in, and the transfer portal looms large. A Sweet 16 is a great accomplishment for CMP, but it is not the ultimate assignment.
