Cawood Ledford died on this day 20 years ago...

By the time I started watching basketball, he had been retired for a few years but I do hope to read some stories about people who either: 1. Turned down the TV and turned up the radio to hear him. or
2. Would drive far into the mountains to pick up a signal to hear his broadcasts.

Love that type of post.
Did both. Never listened to the tv if I could tune him in. Drove to a high point near my home and threw an antenna wire into a tree so I could pick up his broadcast. If you could hear Cawood, you were at the game.

Coming to you from downtown Lexington, Ky.
Cawood was Grand Marshall at the Madison,Ind Regatta back in 77 or 78 and I was bar tending at a local watering hole. He came in and ended up talking for a long time. He asked how much his tab was and the owner walked and said if I charge you any thing I lose a bartender. He came back and had lunch the next day just to thank me, a great guy.

One of a kind. There will never be another Cawood Ledford. Got to talk with him once. A total gentleman. Couldn't possibly have been nicer.
