I agree -- but I also think when Cal said a month or so ago that this could be his "best class ever" -- wouldn't that HAVE to include Giles to be considered that?
One would think Cal's best class ever (strong statement) would have to include the #1 player in that class.
So why is Giles considered a duke lock? Just has been? K coach him in the U-18 team USA? How long has he been considered a lock?
No locks in recruiting, but Giles has had a close relationship with the Duke staff for years. K has been invited privately to his birthday celebration very year for the last two or three. I know from the Duke end every "insider" has said it is, in effect, a done deal.
But who knows!
Cmon, everyone knows cheese platters are a must at bday celebrations and who knows their cheese better than that rat.
Are we completely out of the josh Jackson sweepstakes? Personally, I don't care since we have about 5 dudes coming in just as good as him. How goodand are monk and bridges a combo deal, for sure?

I have no idea why Cal hasn't went hard after Jackson.
Some of you are putting way too much stock in the "best class ever" statement. That was just Cal being Cal; he wants UK to remain in the news cycle, even out of season, and so he'll say things from time to time to make sure that happens. And it worked, like it always does.
I dread every time i see a Giles thread on this forum. I know every time we will have a few that will tell us to forget about him and move on since he's a Duke lock. As much as it's said, i'm sure it will probably happen. My only thought is, in recruiting, ain't really such a thing as a lock. With Cal, i always think we have a chance, even if we really don't. Since it appears he's bffs with K, i wish the kid would just go ahead and verbal to Duke. No point in making drama over something that is already done and over with. That's the annoying part of recruiting. These kids know where they want to go to school and play ball, yet they drag these things out forever when it's just a waste of time. Just commit and get it over with. Unless a coach gets involved that wasn't before and the kid always wanted to play for that coach, most of these kids know where they are going and recruiting could be so much less frustrating if they could pull the trigger already.
I too believe Giles is Duke bound. However just as recently as the Wiggins recruitment things do change. He was considered to be a lock between UK or Fsu and at the last minute Kansas picked up steam. Like I said I believe all signs point to puke, but if any one can change his mind I put my faith in Cal.

Probably because he'd rather have Monk and Bridges on the wing instead of Jackson.
I would say that Jackson had no interest, we all know that Kentucky is not for everyone.
Must've been. It's really odd. Especially because Jackson doesn't seem to have a heavy favorite.
How sweet of K and the Duke staff to become BFFs with the best prospect out of North Carolina in a decade. So I guess any interactions outside a contact period are A-OK, since there is a pre-existing relationship, right? I wonder if K brought a gift to the birthday parties? Otherwise it would be kind of awkward if you just show up for free food.

Cal will be fine, but I'm actually beginning to feel sorry for Roy Williams. The way Duke and Coach K are lapping UNC in recruiting is just sad. No party invites for ole Roy?
Woof, that was a brutal one. K had an in-home, and apparently HB told him on the way out "Save #40 for me!" Then K went out the door, and Roy came in the back door, holding a #40 UNC jersey which they promptly took photos in. The first K heard of HB going to UNC was when Barnes said "I will now Skype the coach..." and apparently the Duke staff was like "What?"
I remember watching that and seeing Roy's mug pop up... reddish, and a little warped thanks to the webcam, and the biggest sh_t-eating grin in the world plastered across his mug. Those looked like DARK days. Turns out, it worked out just fine
I don't follow you guys close enough to know; have you had any recruiting misses that seemed like SUCH sure things, even to the staff?
To be honest, closest I can think of was Brandon Wright when he committed to UNC during the Tubby days, but to be honest Tubby was an awful recruiter so who the hell knows. Actually I remember a lot of misses during the Tubby days. Can't recall too many complete shockers under Cal other than maybe Mudiay last year, but then we got Ulis as a result and Mudiay went to China so it worked out just fine.

No, it wouldn't have to include Giles. I think Calipari signs Wynyard, Killeya-Jones, Monk, Fox, Bridges, plus 1 or 2 others. The 1 or 2 others will be good players. Maybe Bolden, Allen, Maker, Simmons, or Alkins. Monk and Fox are future superstars, and I think a lot of people don't realize yet how good they are. This is probably the nation's top class. If Giles comes, it's just that much better.
It's easy for you to say that but this is a big decision for a 17 year old kid. I think these kids are pretty smart actually. Wait as long as you can before you pull the trigger. You never know what can happen after you make your commitment. I would wait as long as I possibly could and put some hard thought into what is best for me. Plus, these kids love the spotlight, they love all the attention. You might not like it but most 17 year olds love every second of the celebrity life.
Now, there has to be some reason why Calipari is taking time to visit Giles, if he was such a duke* Cal wouldn't waste his time would he? I don't think so.
Cal doesn't need to take kids that have an issue whether it be an academic issue or a character flaw, Cal has shown that he won't take a kid that has an issue. I'm not saying Jackson has an issue but there has to be some reason why Cal is not even looking at this kid.
