This has been Cal going back to 2018 when he mouthed off before the Sweet 16 about how Kentucky fans didn’t “believe” in this team and now they’re about to go the Final Four. He was mouthy in ‘21 in December before it all went off the rails that season. He wins one big game and acts like suddenly all the underachieving goes away. His fans call it Swaggy Cal.
It’s just moronic and why I’m ready to move on from him. I’m not going to buy in on one game. Let’s see how the season plays out but Cal would be smart to show just a shred of humility at this point in his career but since he’s such a jackass, this is what we get

If not for that lifelong contract, his sorry butt would have been bounced several embarrassing seasons ago.
Of course, the jabs weren't directed at the media. Why would they care about him slithering around the chambers of the NBA. It was most likely directed at fans because he knows that fans don't like the fact that sending players to the NBA is his top priority.

The comments I’m referring to most certainly were directed at fans. He was talking to Leach on the radio postgame. That interview is specifically for fans on radio. No media is listening to that. They already had the press conference. He said you all can get pissed off, pissed on, or whatever. I AM going to Indy tomorrow to see MY players make history.
This had been a back and forth for a while between him and some fans and was just another shot. Did anyone doubt he would go? He should go as I have said twice in this thread. WE KNOW it’s a recruiting tool. But also partly a narcissistic self serving move. Good for him. He’s earned it.

As someone watching from afar, I don’t see it as taking shots at the fans. I see him using the media for messaging to his team. He is trying to get these young guys in that bunker mentality of us against the world. We have all seen it before with Cal, and when he gets his guys playing with that chip on their shoulder, they seem to do well.

No reasonable Kentucky fan has any issue with him going to the All-Star Game. It's fully expected, and I think many of us would be upset if he turned down that opportunity. He implied the opposite during his comments and made himself look insecure and petty in the process. He created a false narrative so he could take shots at a part of our fan base. It's just not professional or helpful to anyone.

The "players" are NEVER the reason for Cal's inadequacies. Cal is the reason this program has declined to a point where winning SEC Titles or making Final 4's is a long shot, lately.
Cal is the one that has "shut it down". But I will give him credit for last night's win, it was big. But is he capable of using this as a springboard to something bigger? I would be ELATED if Cal used all of the criticism thrown at him as a motivation to return UK Basketball to what it was his first 8 seasons!!!
