Cal can’t help himself

Everyone is thrilled with the win. Talking to Leach on postgame. But he has to throw jabs at fans about going to NBA all star game tomorrow.
Coaching is a teaching position. He should be there to celebrate the success of his students. I wouldn't expect you poor jealous babies to understand. Bragging rights to future recruits is a good thing.

I've been a pretty strong Cal critic in recent weeks but I just can't figure out why Cal going to the All-Star game constitutes him taking a shot at me. It's the last NBA game I'd want to watch but to each their own. Probably some wild parties...

The fact that so many don’t know how recruiting works really is bizarre.
Recruiting and talking about it is fine….its the direct comments and divisive attitude he has with fans who have voiced displeasure with the over emphasis on the nba while the team he coaches is struggling. Time and place…time and place.

Drop the pompous attitude and “I showed you” mentality towards the ppl who support the program and live and breath this university……just say “I’m excited to go support the 7 Kentucky guys as they represent in the allstar game” and leave the divisiveness out of it. It isn’t difficult.

He does this after every win regardless of how bad or good they had looked the week prior. It “steals joy” and what could otherwise be a rallying around win turns into exactly what this thread is and keeps everyone divided about Cal….not about Kentucky and hopes for how the season ends….but abo it Cal. He makes it about himself instead of about the success of the team

Yep, some in this thread just don’t get it. NOBODY cares if he goes. He should go, it’s what/how he says it. Always looking for a fight with fans.

And for the clown who thinks I don’t understand that’s a recruiting play, well…. Maybe message boards aren’t for you.
Look.. started a whiny, bitchy mronic thread after an outstanding win necause you are miserable.

Then don’t watch. It’s really simple.

I’ve been a diehard fan my entire life. I’ll continue to watch. If you don’t like message board conversation then don’t read.

Reading comprehension is a critical skill. Nothing was negative. It’s about why ppl find it frustrating. Tactful Delivery matters in all walks of life and if he wants everyone on board then he should attempt to not rile up the natives and have a me vs them attitude.

There shouldn’t be any negatives after a win like tonight but he created one intentionally. He could have said he was going to go support our guys and the majority wouldn’t have seen fault in that….its when you intentionally make the tone and delivery as tho you’re trying tk rub ppls face in it that was upset when you dropped 3 straight home games at Rupp for the first time in our history. Both realities can be true you can support the guys while also taking accountability and working as a singular unit (fans, team, administration, university) to right the ship. Thats why there is so much animosity in the fanbase. Winning cures all of you win and get out of your own way.

Essentially, don’t stir the pot and then be mad everything is mixed up and swirling. You want calm seas…don’t rock the boat

The problem is Cal doesn’t know how to read the room!
No kiddin. Gets a huge win and walks in the presser with some random weird rabbit ear thing about keep hating me but leave MY players out of it thing. Yeah their your players Cal not ours.

The guy is one of a kind. Things go bad and he’s quiet as a mouse, then gets one whiff of success and puffs up like a puffer fish everytime,, like the bad things never happened or will again.

Wish I had one half of that lack of self awareness. Life would be a lot easiest.

You say don’t read when you don’t want to read my opinion. Convenient. You seem mad that we won? Have a good one. HUGE win! I couldn’t be happier.

It isn't just a recruiting tool. He has stated that his primary goal is to prepare players to earn their living playing basketball. People don't like that and think his primary goal should be winning games and glory. That's fine if you want the games and glory part, but that's not what he's doing.
When he was winning big it was easier to let things slide. When you're not winning as much as you used to but you’re still blabbing away about All-Star weekend instead of telling the BBN what you're going to do to fix things, people have less patience for that.

I dont remember but did any of our other coaches rile up the fanbase like Cal does?

No issue with that but did find it ridiculous he broke out the old line of stop criticizing his players. Literally no one is criticizing the players

Didn't hear it, so no context as far as tone and conversation in general. However, that is his brand.

He's the NBA guy. He goes to all-star games, he has combines, he likes playing in MSG, he likes taking on projects just like the league likes to do, he likes to reference all the players who are tearing up the league, etc...

Every time I start to get a little frustrated, I remember that he told us what he wanted to do and never misses an opportunity to remind us. So, at the very least he's been transparent and honest.

He is doing what he set out to do. I suppose that is kind of respectable. He's called his shots all along the way like a pool player.

"2 ball Corner pocket...this ball center pocket...that ball over there..."

"Players first to the league...Draft night gonna be great...max contracts to a billion and beyond...all-star weekend hear we come look at all these alumn..."

I don’t criticize players I criticize the guy that’s making 10 million a year to run the ship. Yesterday was a great win but along the way we’ve had some devastating losses one loss or one win does not a season make let’s see where we are the first weekend of April

the guys on SEC now were bagging on him big time for that

he is a bit of a joke among those guys at this point, and most of the media world has been rolling their eyes at his faux outrage and narrative control for years.

coming out pumping his chest like this was the plan all along. His team gets bounced early in the tournament and he'll never be able to talk trash again...well, he will , because he is an arrogant jackass, but people will laugh at him to his face

Everything he has done this year is setting himself up to where he has to succeed in March. He better be able to pull it off.

The truth:
- Cal isn't a BAD coach when he tries, although he's always been more of a salesman, recruiter and pop psychologist than an in-game strategist.
- Since 2015, he hasn't gotten the job done. And as I've said, the job is increasingly insane at this level...and others have gradually bailed on it (including other HOFers like K, Roy, Wright) and there isn't any inherent shame in falling behind the times.
- What DOES make it shameful is continually not meeting expectations but acting like an arrogant idiot (in denial) about it every chance you get, in spite of making ridiculous money in a poor state that can't really afford it.
- And oh by the way, Mitch is the real moron/villain in all of this.

Final comment: as always, I cheer for UK always and forever and would rather be wrong if it means we win.

I don’t care what he does after we win. I don’t see it as a jab to fans either but it’s all a matter of how you receive it. Simply saying what he’s doing tomorrow.
