Cal already disrespecting Arkansas fans (also talks about Mark Pope)

Cal said he did a Covid test, hoping he had Covid, as he didn't want to do the SEC Media Day; because, ya know, why would a brand new coach want to talk about his team to an excited fan base? He's obviously better than that.

Also said they're down "three or four guys" with injuries right now. So glad he's gone.

6:40 mark (Covid test)
8:20 mark (down three or four guys)
12:27 mark (mocking fans who disliked his adjustment period remarks)
17:08 mark (Jack Pilgrim asks him about Mark Pope)

Anyone without a bias toward Cal would not agree with you. Arkansas fans are not as thin skinned and sensitive as you seem to be. They can take it.

Nobody here (that I'm seeing) is saying Arkansas fans are sensitive or thin skinned. If anything, Arkansas fans are generally acknowledged for having knowledgeable and passionate fans on this board. Most of us here think the average Arkansas fans will see through Cal's BS relatively quick.

How in the world could someone take that quote as being disrespectful to hog fans/ or any fans! Can you take a joke! And remember, people make their own enemies! What have someone done to you to cause them to be your enemy! And people, please don't let others emotions drag your emotio8ns into you butting in with your two cents! Lol...but the facts 😛
I'll bite.
You just don't know yet, how much he loathes you. We do know. And you will find out the old fashioned way.
Example; you still think he's joking.
Best.

This. Cal will do his same crap. Talk down to the fans, and belittle them. They are just peasants that don't understand the bigger picture. Like us slack jawed holler bennies. No offense to Arkansas, but y'all just aren't high profile enough for his inflated ego. He'll never embrace the folks of Fayetteville. I'd be willing to bet he's got one eye on his next gig already. Something higher profile to make him feel accomplished.

Cal was on with Finebaum after the media guys. Said he wanted to build something special 🤮. Says it’s all about the kids and he still wants to help 25-30 families 🤑 Said he still wants to win, but not at the expense of his players??!! 😮🙄

If I was a betting man, Arkansas will be pretty good this season & maybe even break the top 5.
I'd also bet that it will be his best season at Arkansas.
It’s going be kind of fascinating to watch Cal run a program from afar vs being in the trenches. I looked at their schedule and I’m not sure they’ll be top 5, but I do agree this might end up being his best year there.

They definitely have size and athleticism (as usual), but if he had the same roster at Kentucky, the biggest evident challenge I think was shooting. If Johnell Davis fills that role (and he should), they will be pretty good.

The COVID thing was a joke. Hyperbole. For how much he doesn't like Press Days.

Nitpicking is called that because nits are the tiny little eggs of lice. And you have to squint to see them. Worrying over the COVID joke is nitpicking.
Ah it’s more of his weird ass comments.

Substitute ANY illness. Who still says that?

“Man I hope I had the flu so I wouldn’t have to do this.”

Especially at a barn drew gov when you’re trying to win people over? He should be revamped a reenergized.
I get he has Calisms and he has a dry wit but maybe it’s just us hearing that kind of crap for the last few years that we know exactly what that means.

Won’t be long before the Little House comments start up.

lol... you are nitpicking; it was mentioned along with the other "odd" things he said..

Glad he is gone, but to me he continues to look like someone who really doesn't want to be where he is at.

If that was a joke it was the worst joke of all. Literally no one laughed including Cal. He definitely didn’t laugh to try to sell it as a joke so I’m not sure it was a joke or not. But he quickly realized how stupid it was to say immediately after and started moving along in the conversation. It was awkward to watch.

I don't think he wants to be there either. He used his Arkansas money friends to try to strong arm Mitch, and got caught holding his hoohah. My guess is, once the story quickly circulated, Arkansas was the only decent school that was willing to mess with that. Arkansas wasn't the destination, it was a parachute. Again, my opinion.

I’ve felt he’s been over the actual coaching part for the last few years. He seems to still enjoy the recruiting and practice/individual development aspect, but doing media and playing the actual games he seems burnt out.

My bet was he was going retire from UK, but if he kept coaching I thought it would be at a small school with hardly any pressure. The move to Arkansas made zero sense to me.

I think they will see exciting basketball and, as knowledgeable fans, will appreciate the fact that he is there.

Nah, you're wrong. His wife even told him to suck it up and go.

We get it. You loved you some Calipari until the 11th hour. Folks like you "just want to move on now"; and I don't blame you. You were so wrong on Cal for so long, that any revisit of his hideous decline or manifested tendencies must act like a mirror in your own face and reminder of your failed mentality during that last season of Cal's tenure here.

You were one of the last 5% of his supporters. You claim you jumped ship, but you actually stayed on the Cal Titanic and played Near My God to Thee as your feet first felt the chilly Atlantic.

I agreed that he should leave but, I still like him. I think he will do great at Arkansas. I will pull for Arkansas in every game except one. You seem to forget that you were as down on the Pope hire as you were Calipari. I understand in both cases. I hope we have a great season but I am not too confident.

He said he will cheer for Arkansas if they aren't playing KY.

CCC always the narcissist! At the beginning he says that he wants to talk about the SEC and my team. A few breaths later- Commissioner said 40 NBA draft picks, I think it was 48 first rounders. 30 some lottery picks.
4 first rounders. Ever so humble, congrats Hogs!

In addition to just the natural reactions people have with reports and comments like these from Calipari, the other issue will be responses from UK fans and also hearing "we tried to tell you" from UK fans and then even worse realizing UK fans were right and now they have to go into denial or admit UK fans have been right all along.

He’s only in it for the money and to get Brad on his feet, so to speak. I think he wants to retire but felt obligated to help Brad get his coaching career started.

Also telling: We haven't put in any sets or anything...we've just been working on individual improvement
The only year I can recall us actually running sets was last year with John Welch on the bench. You could see by the end of the year that Cal had gone back to his old ways. Not surprised that Welch didn’t follow him to hog land.

For me it’s sad to see. I know my generation feels about Cal how the generation before mine feels about Pitino. They both brought Kentucky basketball back.

But he’s just not right anymore. He’s finally to the point of being willing to wear Arkansas shirts. It took him a couple months to even do that. No new coach should say that they don’t wanna be there on media day like that. That’s not a good look at all.

I’ve said over the last few years that he’s likely showing signs of dementia. Those closest to him need to pull him out. Sadly, there’s probably too many benefiting off his name, reputation, and career to even think about doing that.

I really think his problems are much bigger than basketball at this point.

Hard to see Cal lasting long at Arkansas. Their fans won’t take it any better than ours if he doesn’t produce.
I am so glad that we no longer have to deal with that nonsense. He is already holding players out as built-in excuse for not performing well. What kind of idiot tells his new fanbase that he was hoping to have covid so he would have an excuse to not attend the event. He doesn't sound like anyone who has a desire to coach. Thank you, Arkansas.
