Brown update

I'll stay cautiously optimistic on this one. Seems to be a lot of smoke our way- late in the game. Usually that's a good sign

So now Jones is using anonymous texts from people to propagate this Brown to UK "buzz"?

Yep, KSR fishing for hits and listeners.

Not to echo what everybody else is saying already, but... I'm echoing what everybody else is saying already. At the very least, you have to be even remotely intrigued by the numerous coincidences that have taken place over the past 2 days.

I'm way too impatient, looks like the earliest we will hear anything will be early next week, feels like an eternity away lol

just ignore that guy he only likes new if it is bad. he must hate the fact Brown to UK looks likely. and no Jones never said that.
In what way does it looks likely? Because of an anonymous text or several UM staff unfollowing Brown on twitter? It's still very much uncertain.

If you have followed Brown's recruitment from the beginning, what you know is that this is a kid that has liked UK from Day 1, but he's got Adidas people around him trying to help him find an Adidas school that fits him.

A year ago, it was thought that Brown would commit to UK as soon as UK offered him. That didn't happen, instead his AAU team just happened to have a bunch of games in the LA area and Brown had a couple of unofficial visits to UCLA over the Summer. Suddenly there was a huge momentum swing to UCLA and talk of a possible early commitment. Didn't happen.

Next up was Brown taking an OV to Kansas during their midnight madness followed by an OV to UK. After that, Kansas was the popular pick. Didnt happen.

Months later, he adds UNC (grew up a fan), and Cal (because of friendship with Swanigan and Rabb) and yet another Adidas team - Michigan - a team that wasn't even recruiting him but that his people contacted.

That takes us to today, and the fact that Brown has eliminated the two Adidas teams that everyone thought lead for 8 of the last 12 months is telling. The fact that Michigan's supposed big advantage is family but he's eliminated the Georgia schools is telling.

If Jaylen does what he wants to do without people in his ear with ulterior motives, I think he'll be at UK. He has an immense opportunity here and a guaranteed route to being an NBA lottery pick. Everybody knows that - Hell, Michigan fans know it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but ultimately, I just hope he does what he wants to do and what is best for his future.

It is definitely very uncertain because many still feel that Michigan leads, but the UK buzz is not based only on the text or the "unfollowing" on Twitter (although that could be significant); rather, it is based primarily on Michigan's lead mod on the 247 board. He has been at the forefront of Brown recruitment from day one, but this morning he stated that he has new information and he now does not feel confident in Brown choosing Michigan.

Good point. The fact remains it not as clear cut as caneintally makes it to be. Then again he also said Newman and a few others were done deals lol.

True, but they also lost like, what, 11 games? And I understand that UK did two seasons ago, and went to the title game both 2 years ago, and last year, but UNC isn't even close to bringing in a recruiting class like UK did last year, they lose their best defender and best athlete, and they don't have a true facilitator on that team. Paige is a terrific scorer when he's on, but he'll never be a great point guard. He just doesn't have the playmaking ability to do that.
Meanwhile, UK has a terrific facilitator, a ton of open minutes at the SF position, and is as prepped as any team in the country to make a run for the title.
And while Brown may be there for only one year, he may not. The best possible situation he could walk into is at Kentucky.

Rhav,

You are putting waay too much stock into JP Tokoto, jhe was in fact what you said as an athlete and a defenseman, but he was a liability on offense, kid could not make a shot.

UNC will be good next year. In fact, they should be FF good, anything less would be bad for Roy with as many teams that are down.

Marcus Paige was their only reliable offense in the half-court this season. It's difficult to say if he was a deficiency rather than an efficient part while he was on the court, but you have to feel like he was efficient because of the playing time that he seen. But you have to feel like they would be better off with him, than without.

Would you rather have JP or Brown at the 3 if you were UNC?

Jackson is a 3. Brice Johnson is their 4.

Semantics BS, they started 4 Forwards according to them, they didn't list them specifically, but you guys tell the world who was the SF and PF and the other two were just regular old forwards I guess. The question was if Rhav liked Brown over JP, which I don't even care, Brown possibly committing tonight, is the only reason I'm on right now.

Your obsession with Matt Jones is getting pretty weird

This is my third post about KSR/Matt Jones in the last month. I'm not sure how that is considered "obsession" when two of those KSR posts have been made in the last 24 hours by me. I actually like KSR on most accounts, but not in this case.

See, all that would actually come with you paying attention instead of selectively throwing out cheap labels and juvenile implications.

SoS...logic and reasoning is out the window here. Call him a troll and he will back off.

Dude, you really have it in for MJ don't you?

Three posts in a month on this issue. I don't have it in for KSR except on this point, and even there it's more of just a headache because I see how BBN is getting their collective emotions shuffled around. I know they're doing their job, but I feel like they are really stretching it lately and I expect a bit more from KSR.

Also, while there is other buzz that is probably citation-worthy, I'm not sure pointing to random anonymous texts is the type of stuff that paints a realistic portrayal of what is actually worth looking into right now.

Oh I am I. I fully agree except on one major thought here - when I see an effort to generate more buzz from the windstorm of random, almost hollow, "sources", I feel it actually dilutes the real intrigue here and makes a mockery of those following the Brown recruitment.

I mean, pointing to an anonymous, unverifiable text? Have you ever heard of such a thing from a media member?
