Was really surprised at the lack of attendance for these two events this weekend. UK women only drew about 3200 for each of their NCAA tournament games at Mem Coliseum. And Sweet 16 had worst attendance I can ever remember in Lexington, most sessions were less than half full, including the final yesterday between O-boro and BG. As a comparison, a run of the mill regular season baseball game v. Miss State drew almost 1900 at Cliff Hagan yesterday.
And really can't blame the Sweet 16 on Kentucky in the NCAA, really had no direct conflicts because our game didn't start on Thursday until 10 or so. (maybe it did Saturday, but don't they still play the semis in the morning?)
Fifteen or 20 years ago, Sweet 16 used to really clog up downtown, but last week, I barely noticed a difference.
Basketball has always been all about tournaments, but can't understand why more fans don't come to the games anymore.
