Attempting to add some substance to the discussion of upcoming transfers

KSR is reporting a mystery player that is gonna shock will be taking a visit to UK this weekend. I hope Matt is correct. The writer said it was the recruit that they had been hearing about and waiting on since before the season ended. They wrote it as they didn't know who it was either. They speculated Ricks, Copeland, or someone that hasn't entered the portal yet
They have to enter the portal to visit UK. UK can’t recruit off other teams rosters

💯 Fact. They also said they had contacted Evans and him not in the portal. I find it hilarious. Hope there is a mystery transfer that will shock us though

I agree but if said player filed yesterday he would hit the portal tomorrow. In that scenario he could go to nay campus tomorrow for a visit. I'm not saying anything like that is happening. Also marrow was supposedly talking to Wandale's family/friends long B4 he hit the portal. So there are ways around it and we all know the kids have people reach out to coaches, and coaches have people reach out to the kids. I know a player that went to UK, and rode the bench his 2nd year. Late in the year they finally put him in and he took over and became a UK great. During that time when UK wasn't playing him Bama, LSU, and others reached out thru the grapevine to let them know if he wasn't happy they had a spot for him. It happens

Had contact WITH someone is not them CONTACTING someone.

Outside of Casey (who was beaten out by Trevin Wallace)...I don't think any of those players were going to get in top 2 depth chart at any positions.

Who else do we feel will be the "Transfer in" class when it's all over?

- Bogle at edge rusher?
- I'd argue we need another WR as well?
- And of course DB spots are open for the taking?

I thought Watkins and KD had a shot at being in the two deep. I think both will probably try and find a spot where they can have a shot at starting.

Nassir is a true head scratcher....he played alto on the 2019 OLine with 2nd unit. And then he got hurt before 2020 and then dissapeared. When Flax beat him out as backup tackle spot....sort of sealed the deal for him

You're right about KD McDaniel....he could have played in our depth chart. He was probably the biggest one we'd miss...even over Casey.

There's definitely something going on behind the scenes with Watkins. Expected to play a lot, suspended 4 games, and never played at all.

Brad flirting with LSU seems to have hurt with Bogle a bit. Vince said he was scrambling.
I don’t think that was it. I have a feeling it was JJ Weaver playing his position of choice. If he came here he would have to split time at Jack. Maybe at MSU he would be the outright starter.

Has UK been in contact with Jared Verse, Edge that played for Albany?

Him and Eli Ricks are two of the top remaining defenders currently in the portal that would fit positions of need ASAP

Bogle will transfer to MI St, not UK.

Today UK received a commitment from Tayvion Robinson, a productive slot receiver with elite speed, transferring from VA Tech.

When Tashawn Manning decided to transfer to UK, most of us probably didn't even know he had visited. Last year, Stoops took seven transfers. The roster numbers suggest to me that Stoops will take more than seven this time. He recently said that he is looking for receivers, DBs, and linemen. Some transfers won't announce until after spring practice, but I suspect we will learn about several more before the spring semester begins.

Watkins was injured most of this season. But beating out Kinnard, Rosenthal, Flax, and Wohlabaugh to get into the OT playing rotation would have been a tall task anyway.

He was injured early, then suspended, and then never made the field. I doubt that was about a true frosh and a rarely used Juco transfer. There is more to the story, it surely appears.

I know you liked Watkins. You did a good job of making that clear. Flax won a starting job last spring before Rosenthal transferred in. Flax was a four star recruit. He was rarely used only because Rosenthal and Kinnard (best OT in the SEC) are future NFL players. Our coaches love Wohlabaugh, who has a big football pedigree and actually beat out a group of other OTs to make the two deep rotation. Anyway, the genie is out of the bottle now. Let's see where Watkins transfers and how much he plays next season. That will be the litmus test.

Calm down.

If you think a guy who backed-up both OTs prior to being injured was kept out of the lineup by a talented frosh OL that the staff planned to RS and a backup who made the field for a few snaps (when DK and Dare went down, Horsey was the backup, while not mentioned as such on the depth chart), then that is your prerogative. But, the four game suspension and then Stoops’ response to a mid-season question about Watkins’ health tells us a great deal. It has nothing to do with whether I like Watkins. 🤦‍♂️

I am calm. You have a short fuse. I know my prerogatives, but they don't have anything to do with this. UK has one of the top OLs in college football. Naasir Watkins is gone. We take no joy in that, but Kinnard and Rosenthal are future NFL players and Flax beat out the other OTs last December and spring. These are not my opinions. It is a dead issue now. I will leave it at that, rather than rehashing. Happy New Year.

Coach Stoops has already accepted Tayvion Robinson and Tashawn Manning from the transfer portal. With double digit roster spots still open for 2022, it is likely that a handful of other transfers will be accepted before preseason camp opens next August. Here are some possible candidates from the current transfer portal, but this list is bound to get bigger.

All of the following transfer candidates formerly received offers from UK coming out of hs.

Bryce Austin, DL, Purdue
Andy Boykin, DL, AR
Kenneth Dicks III, DB, Wake Forest
Jermaine Hamilton-Jordan, DB, AR
Darrion Henry-Young, DL, OH St
Enzo Jennings, DB, PA St
James Miller, LB, IU
Vincent Miller, OL, SCar
Ian Stewart, WR, MI St
Cameron Williams, LB, IU

I hope Flax get minutes next year. Nothing on the field demonstrates that will happen, but as we saw in Eli Cox, players can transform their condition with hard work. If Flax has not reached his potential, he may see the field. If he does, I hope that means he is BBW worthy and we are not just settling. Watkins’ injury was evidently significant and, then, he got in the doghouse. It was clearly time for him to leave.

BTW, Flax did not see much playing time when Dare or DK went out. Horsey moved to the OT and Austin came in at guard. There is a reason why Dare was desired.

Do you have anything to contribute about transfer candidates for UK in the portal? Or are you just here to dump on contributing posters and kill another interesting thread?

See the post above and calm down. You are not the only person who gets to post about this team. And, I have no idea what your “dump” comment means. Seriously, calm down.

I have to agree...moving Horsey to tackle was a major moment for me as well. Which is why I am not so rosy on 2021 offensively right now. YOu could make an argument UK will struggle as much to replace Kinnard as they will Wandale. If we lose Rosenthal to the NFL as well.....I just can't see that as a confidence next year will be as good offensively as 2021 was...even with Levis back.

Yeah, there is reason for concern, but Stoops seemed confident when asked the other day, so I will wait and see who develops into the needed roles.

@Rembrandt90
I wonder if any potentials may be close to our Florida bowl game?
Earlier, at 1:20 PM, I listed 10 players currently in the transfer portal as examples of players Coach Stoops might pursue. I picked these 10 particular players because UK offered all of them when they were in hs, because they play positions where UK needs to add players for 2022, and because these 10 are probably good enough to compete for playing opportunities at UK. These players are transferring from programs all over the east. The recent firing of Dan Mullen potentially puts a lot of FL Gators in play. Billy Napier a fine football coach, but still relatively unknown and unproven as an SEC strategist and recruiter. After watching the Gasparilla Bowl, I suspect there is a lot of turmoil inside the Gators' locker room and some Gator players will run for the hills. OTOH, I doubt bringing in Mario Cristobal will shake up Miami's roster very much, but you never know.

In terms of uncommitted hs seniors, a lot are still available in FL and southern GA. The firing of Mullen at UF has shaken up the Gators' recruiting class, which has dropped to the bottom of the SEC rankings. Weak seasons by Clemson and Auburn also have the potential to free up some prospects in FL and southern GA at the last minute. But Cristobal and Kirby Smart could be the biggest beneficiaries.
