anybody on this board remember Cal Umass team 96?

Forbes has us ranked as the most valuable program in college basketball. Every year we’re in the top 2 in attendance in the country. Most of the time we are number 1. I’ll take facts over your bull crap. You’re just crying because of your man crush on Calipari.
And you totally lack substance so you have to resort to personal crap to make a reply. Fact is the MONEY is not there. We’re bleeding players because the MONEY is not there. You can be a millionaire and starve if you can’t spend the assets for food. The assets you mentioned do not translate to NIL cash. OBVIOUSLY!

There is plenty of NIL money there to fill the roster with players that would give us a competitive chance. Bottom line is everyone knows that Cal loves his freshman future leaguers and they will get the lions share of minutes, results be damned. Hell even Reeves is not sold on coming back and he would be the only established shooting guard on the team. I’m still hoping all transfers snub cal and he has to roll with what he’s got. Ready to get this fraud away from here even if it takes 1 more shit show season.

‘96 UMass was essentially ‘12 UK Light. Camby was Davis-esque. Padilla/Travieso were solid like Teague/Lamb. Bright and Dingle were talented, interchangeable. Kind of like Jones/MKG. UK was more talented obviously, but the upperclassmen versions of those 4 weren’t far off.

The ‘24 UK team as of 6-3-23 pales in comparison in any way to ‘96 UMass or ‘12 UK. There is not a generational talent. There is no senior leadership. Is this recruiting class even Top 5 for Cal in terms of overall talent? I fear another up-and-down season/first weekend exit is upon us unless he strikes gold in the portal over the next several weeks.

Huh?

2008 team was deeeeeeep..... 9 players played 14+ minutes or more. No one played more than 29mpg.

2007 team(33-4)----Same thing. 9 that played 10+ minutes or more... MOF, 7 guys played 20+ minutes or more..

Not sure what you googled---But it lied.
same old deal now, iirc Memphis lost to Kansas b/c of missed free throws late in the game. Sound familiar? We lost a couple of important games b/c of missed ft's.

I remember it. Cal beat us with us with one player and 4 ball boys.

Then in the FF he gave us our toughest game.

The year before he almost beat us in the sweet sixteen except for an out of the coaching box technical.

Cal is not the same as then. He’s a much better coach now.
You actually had me fooled into thinking you were a legit poster for a couple months. Lol @ this ridiculous post.

The good news is we never have any injuries and all 7 of these guys have tons of experience.

Good post OP, perfect comparison imo

Would love to hear you expand on this (not holding my breath though as I’m sure you are a troll with zero basketball knowledge). How do you put together a roster as he did at an unknown school, get a victory over arguably the greatest college basketball team ever, lead them to a final four and say what we have witnessed the last several years from cal is a greater version of that cal? How is cal a better coach now? 3 bullet points will do.

Show me an article that says the money isn’t there Bass. Why is it that Kentucky is the most valuable basketball program? I know you’re slow and got a weird obsession with Calipari but it’s not hard to figure out. You only bring two things to this site, dumb arguments for your man crush Cal and bashing fans.

Bass has said the fans need to look in the mirror because of the schools NIL issues. Why is our program so valuable if our fans supposedly don’t spend enough???

Stupid to the irrational obsessed fan, i suppose. Facts dont care about your feelings. Before Cal, this board was going nuts when we got a top 10 guy.

Which has what to do with having 7 roster players in June, and we play in 4 or 5 weeks?

I remember. Pretty sure they had more than 7 on the roster, and it was chock full of upperclassmen including a junior Marcus Camby. Different era, different coach. Got anything else stupid to say?
Excellent reply. First thing that came to my mind when I read that post was different era and different Coach Cal. You beat me to it, lol. Plus, you are right, he had more than just a 7 player roster. Hopefully we will too but pickens are getting slim now. And, we have zero experience on this current roster.

That’s true. We were also usually adding a top 10 guy to an already existing roster of more than 7 scholarship players. Not just a handful if freshman with one injury away from having to play walk ons.

You are right. We got Dickinson and Oscar both. Dickinson said KYs offer was insane. Oscar said Cal had money spraying out every oriface. Wait….. we didn’t get either. Because of MONEY!!!!!!!

Show proof of that being the reason.

Having just 7 quality players is probably a good thing for Cal. Substitution decisions get much simpler and we are much less likely to be stuck with a befuddling lineup combination.

Obviously, more players mean more dice rolls for good players and can provide a buffer against bad luck.

In big games, we want to stick with our best 6-7 players.

Except you need more than just 7 scholarship players. Our “quality” players need other quality players to practice against. Not even mentioning the fact that depth is vital in case of injuries (which we ALWAYS have) and foul trouble. Tightening a deep team down to a 7 man rotation is not the same thing as having literally 7 players.

The value of our basketball program has nothing to do with NIL money, two totally different things. The money the university makes off our basketball team is the school's money. The schools money isn't and can't be used for NIL. NIL has to come from other businesses or money un the community. So we can be the most valuable college basketball team in America and still struggle with NIL......and by all accounts our basketball team is still way behind with NIL compared to other schools

I know that. Bass says that fans need to look in the mirror on why NIL isn’t as good as other schools. That’s why I said that. He blames our fans for everything.

I’m glad you pointed that out, I had to edit my post so people would understand what I meant

Right on man. Sorry, just wasn't sure....yeah I'm convinced he isn't a UK fan. No real fan can still be 100% behind our coach. Even if by some insane chance they are, they've still gotta understand people's frustration I would think.....idk man, don't sweat him. He is harmless, but no way he can even believe all he writes.

I tease bass on here all the time. I know he knew what I was talking about. I just done a bad job of explaining what I meant. I wish it were legal for our program to use money on NIL. We would be in good shape if it were legal. If NIL stays the same I think we should adjust our recruiting to be more traditional. Take some lower ranked guys that have potential to be really good In 2-3 years.

History strongly suggests unless we get Reeves back we’ll be lucky to even make the tournament.

You can’t google? I forgot about your issues.
Issues? You're talking about someone, other than you, having ISSUES? Rich. Come on bAss ... how many nickels in a quarter. Did you ever solve that riddle? Just askin'. How are your VOLS doin'? I hope everyone here knows that kybAssfan is no UK fan but a Tennessee fan.

Laugh. Says the U6 drive by.
lol how many times have you told me to post an article??? lol
I know. That was before I knew about your challenges. Dickinson as much as said Kansas paid more. Oscar asked for 8 mill supposedly. We lost both. Both aspects of this have been posted by the most vile KY hater posters on the board, ones that you greatly respect. We do not have the NIL resources to compete. I do not expect you to comprehend that. Nor do I expect you to understand just how bad this is going get. I do expect you to whine and not understand the terrible effect that has on sponsorship. Further I expect the whiners to wail and absolve themselves of any blame while throwing crap at the cats.

Lol A post like this is funny coming from you. Hearsay is alright for you to tell but it’s not when people tell it to you. You have no idea what the NIL situation is currently, you’re guessing at it. What was the NIL situation at Kansas state, creighton, San Diego state, and Florida Atlantic last season???
