*****#7 Kentucky at #14 Ole Miss Official Game Thread*****

If you're an OT and your man runs straight up field, he should be running himself out of the play. He's literally just running around a block. The QB should never be there.

If his set goes that far outside, he gives up a lethal inside move.

He could've got a better punch for sure but the QB shouldn't have been there especially after that long. If he slides up like he's supposed to, the de just runs himself out of the play
It depends if you are talking about a 3 step drop or a 7 step drop. If the player is in shotgun, he is already in a 7 step drop position so the tackle knows that he has to maintain his block longer and deeper. If the defense tries to step inside the QB only has to slide a couple of steps to the outside to extend the play long enough to get rid of the ball.

If Levis doesn’t learn to throw the ball away he won’t finish the year. There’s no way he can keep taking the hits he’s taking and stay healthy.

I will watch, but we have played crappy against these small schools we’ve played all season and won. I haven’t felt like we can beat TN for several weeks now. Not just because we lost today. Our secondary is awful, Hooker will expose that just like he did last year.
You might be right but I don't think so. I think CRod will be used better than he was today which will open up play action for Levis. This will enable us to get more out of our receivers. As bad as we played, we were a half a second from winning this game.

I would love to be wrong. I hope you are exactly right!!

Just isn't true. If you're an OT and the de runs straight up the field it's exactly what you want him to do. He's running himself out of the play because the QB isn't supposed to be there.

Unfortunately our QB was and often times is there. He just has to consistently climb the pocket. There is no excuse for him repeatedly failing to do it.

Could wohlabough gotten a better punch? Absolutely. Could he have ridden him better to prevent him from working back? Sure (although the de never had to). But Levis should never be there by that point in the play

Not true. You are assigned a man to block and that is your job. There is no justification for the blocker to lose sight of what his defender is doing. I don't know where you got your statement from, but it didn't come from an OL coach. Another reason why your statement is incorrect is because the tackle has no way of knowing if the QB is receiving over the center rush which would stop him from being able to step up. Good OLs maintain their blocks until the play is in front of them. Those who are quickly looking for a reason to stop blocking aren't worthy of being on the field.

So are we a Basketball school or a Football school? I’m choosing Basketball. When the Football team starts winning these types of games we can discuss the Football School argument issue. Love UK but we are a Basketball School. I watch all the football games and want them to win, but I don’t lose my mind when they lose. We have a pretty good football team and better than most years. Enjoy what you have. All this discussion about being in the playoffs is just crazy. Why? We just aren‘t able to recruit the 5* and high 4* players on a regular basis. UK 🏈 is entertaining, but we are a basketball school not a football school. Hopefully, no one harms themselves over this lose, but please drink you tears and broken hear away. I’ll give you some positive news that may help you to feel better. Basketball starts very soon, and we have a lot of 5* and high 4* players. Just remember we are a Basketball school, and we have a pretty good football team. Playoff football team no, but we will play in a bowl.

We played a piss poor game and almost won on the road. Run game was marginally improved with C-Rod.....that is the good.

3 issues on the bad side:
  • Our OL can not stop an opponent's D line from setting up camp in our backfield
  • Our DL cannot pressure opposing QBs at all.
  • Our QB cannot count "One one-thousand, Two one-thousand, Three one-thousand" and then throw.
GBB!

I guess you will spend less time here. Lol

None of those issues are getting fixed. Not one of them and every point you made is spot on.

Said earlier this year this defense does not pressure the QB at all. That will kill them in the weeks ahead. Today was a winnable game. Ones coming up are a lot tougher.

Have fun watching AAU BB. I don't give a fiddlers damx about basketball with the advent of Cal, OAD, and the NBA draft being the primary focus.

Get me a BB coach that puts program wins and championships first, and I might pay more attention to round ball. As it stands, I don't typically pay BB ANY attention until late Feb or early Mar because our AAU/nba farm teams are unwatchable while they figure out who they are during their 8 months on campus.

GBB!

Illegal motion was bull crap.
As much as I would like to agree, the receiver never came close to being set. actually coach chewed Levis out forcalling for snap before everyone was set. It breaks my heart but that was correct call. We lost game ONLY because of our mistakes. We beat ourselve today.

Just isn't true at all. You don't chase people all over the field to block them lol. Tomorrow watch football and you will see this exact play numerous times except the QB will step up as the ot rides him past. Wohlabough should've rode him but it wouldn't matter because he would've just ridden him into the QB that wasn't supposed to be there.

To make matters worse, turns out Levis was supposed to get that ball out of his hand quickly even if it was to throw it away. Just really bad.

No one said anything about chasing someone all of the field and obviously that wouldn't be necessary because their assigned defender wouldn't be all over the field. DON'T BE RIDICULOUS! If there is an inside rush, I can assure you the QB won't be stepping up. As for getting rid of the ball faster, I agree 1x with that. I posted that throughout the game.

It wasn't an inside rush. No push up the middle either. He had a really nice pocket. All he has to do was step up just like he's supposed to and it never happens.

Of course he could've just thrown it quickly like he was told to too. Neither happened

How do you know that he was told to throw the ball early? I don't recall seeing anyone running a route that suggest it was suppose to be a quick pass. He was still between the tackles so he couldn't just throw the ball away unless he threw it out the back of the endzone. If he did that, there had better be an eligible receiver somewhere close. If the OL had done its job, the ball wouldn't have been knocked out of his hand while in the pron position. If the defense is 7+ yards into the backfield, the OL didn't do their job.

i thought brown wasn't set. the part i don't understand is why couldn't that be considered "in motion"?
Because BB never set first. Have to do that before you can start in motion. And he was moving forward while in motion. Can't do that either. Regardless, he was still lining up for the play & Levis didn't wait for him to do that. On Levis.

Because stoops said so after the game. Then Levis said so too.

The worst thing about this loss today is I have to see the highlights of it on every halftime show until the day ends.

If no receiver is open, who are you going to throw it to? Surely no one is suggested that he held the ball for no reason. If Levis manned up by stating that he should have thrown the ball sooner, maybe the OL should man up by stating they could have blocked better, the kicker could have kicked better, the holder could have caught and held the ball better, the snapper could have snapped the ball better, Smoke could have caught that simple screen play in the firs drive, Brown could have slowed down to allow his blocker to take out the last defender in his first big kick return, the defender could have intercepted the ball when it was thrown straight to him, Snoops should have accepted the penalty, before Ole Miss last field goal, etc. Everyone on the team who played or coached could have done something better that could have changed the outcome of the game. NOT JUST LEVIS!!!

If no one is open you throw it out of the end zone. You don't take a sack with no tos and sure as hell don't get stripped.

I love Levis but fans need to be more objective

I think Levis is the best qb we have had in a long time.

The problem is finding a strategy that works with everyone else out there on the field.

The o line does not give Levis much time to make a decision. But at the same time, Levis is capable of not needing much time to throw. I dont blame levis for the fumble when he ran with it, the rules of the game should have been allowed to be enforced instead the officiating kind of looked the other way and allowed ole miss to glorify a close game. The throw to the end zone that was also overturned, would have made us win that game.

I said throw it out of the back of an endzone, but it has to be towards a receiver. A half a second is the difference in him getting the ball out and not. Had the ball been thrown for a TD you wouldn't have cared if he held it for another 5 seconds. It takes more courage to stand in the pocket holding the ball waiting for a receiver to get open than second guessing the play because you don't like the outcome.

Listen to his negative comments beforr the pick and if you want to defend him before the Florida game.

Who's defending anyone? He sucks. He's like listening to long fingernails on a chalkboard.......but he picked UK to win today, like I said.

Not sure what losing a single game on the road against a top 15 team has to do with that whole thing. Im for both. We have a losing record against ranked teams in basketball since that 15 team. Does that matter?

If you're going to hold the ball too long you have to make it count. He didn't. It's that simple. This is my last post on the issue because it's obvious you're just saying anything to rationalize your belief that he's above reproach

I am glad that you are above rationalizing your belief. It is too bad that Levis didn't live up to your expectation because I am certain that he was thinking throughout the game about not letting you down. I can assure you that he wanted this victory more than you could have ever wanted it. A win would have been great for him personally considering the number of scouts at the game, so there is no reason to believe that he didn't do everything that he could to win. Even NFL QBs have bad games!!

It’s not really about courage, though. It’s about making the right play in that situation. The right play is get rid of the ball and play the next down. Cannot just stand there patting the ball that long in that situation

NFL QBs don't play perfect games so I don't know why you think he would. You want perfection from Levis even though so many others failed to play well.
