16 - 3 Point Shots Made!!!

Playing D might help...

Some of VMI's threes were open (that's their game plan), but that Bubba kid was throwing up 30-35 foot PRAYERS and hitting them. Most were closely guarded. We couldn't have D'ed him up any better than we did.

UK has a lot of work to do yet, no argument there, but that Bubba kid deserves some major props. That rim was an ocean for him tonight.

This....sometimes that happens and it did tonight. At least we won. I was in the building 10 years ago.....that was worse

Tonight, VMI shot 19-38 from 3, while Kentucky went 5-14.

When VMI played Pitt, they went 5-25 from beyond the arc. Pitt shot 13-25.

There will be plenty more games where VMI gets torched because they relied on 3s that didn’t fall. While no one is pleased with the open looks VMI got, this game isn’t a reason to panic. It’s the opposite really. Not many teams win a game where their opponent shot 19-38 from 3. Just as importantly, games like this reinforce Cal’s defensive admonitions to the team - if you leave ‘em open, assume the shot is going in. Now our guys see why.

Finished with 19 and that's a new record for a Rupp opponent.

Maybe has something to do with coaching preparation? If it's a consistent trend don't you have to blame the opposing defense/coach preparation for letting it happen?
