1 Oklahoma @ 2 Kansas

Early on, you could argue KU wasn't getting any home cooking. Although, they were taking lots of jumpers, which will never lead to fouls.

But in the 2nd OT, and more so 3rd OT, home cooking kicked in. It was ages for a foul, especially a big foul like an and1 to be called on Kansas. Refs swallowed their whistles.

So put them together.. Kanasa got home cooking. Nothing like Duke.. But they benefited by being at home and being Kansas.
At the end of regulation, 20 seconds left, phantom foul on mason to put hield on the line. With 3 seconds left, ku gurd gets hit in the head while shooting, and no foul called.
Game never should have been in OT.

You mean the over the back?

Mason has consistently played hack and slap ball his entire career. He's been hanging with Pitino. Kansas spent 5 trips in a row goig to the line in 3rd OT. Stop.

I watched the '88 VP debates, and get the reference. It's still a stupid analogy. You don't need to dumb it down, I can keep up easily. It would be appreciated if the point you want to make isn't at best a stretch, or at the very least cleverly witty.

Or, based on your first response where you indicated you really probably didn't have a clue, you took an ignorant shot at what was an otherwise benign reference I made. Google is always a click away to make folks look like retroactive geniuses.

What BS. if you think the refs favored ku tonight, you are blind.
I'm starting to wonder why anyone would ever want to be a ref. Nobody is ever happy with the job you do, everyone blames you for their loss and in some cases, a close win.
I don't see how anyone can say tonight's refs sucked. They let both teams play. I saw Mason reach in and foul Buddy Heild 3 times with no call, finally the ref had to blow his whistle the fourth time. Then of course Mason goes stomping off. Look, you are not allowed to put your hands on the offensive player. He not only put his hands on him but he pushed him all 4 times. Learn how to guard.

Kansas had a few missed call early on anyways. The mason drive where he was barely touched for a FT. A few breakways where the Oklahoma player clearly knew if he sneezed it would be a foul (you could tell by the way he gave up) and it was still a foul.

Nothing out of the ordinary. You got what any home team got not named Kentucky.

Worry not. Your team won the game and will pad its Big 12 record.

Everything is still in line for Kansas to win the Big 12, enter the tournament as a top 2 seed and ultimately lose to a double-digit seed in the NCAA Tournament. Business as usual in Jayhawk Land.

This is the play I was talking about in another post. Mason fouled Heild 3 times with no whistle, the ref finally had to blow his whistle the 4th time. They were trying to let both teams play but apparently Mason didn't get the memo that YOU CAN'T PUT YOUR HANDS ON THE BALL HANDLER PERIOD!

Buddy Hield is a hell of a player. OU is a great team. What a game!

I agree. It was a tremendous game. Kansas doesn't lose at home. Sooners are legit and if these two teams meet in March on a neutral court, it would likely be another great game.

That said, you Jayhawk fans have a lot to be proud about tonight. Your defense down the stretch was extremely good. Kansas might just push through to the second weekend this year.

So good that they allowed Mason to hit Hield while inbounding the last play LOL

How does Self keep getting possible OAD big men talent?
Diallo 0 pts 0/0 fg,, 0/0 ft,, 1 board and 1 foul.. Bragg 2 pts 1/2 fg,, 0/0 ft,, 1 board..

Simple. He's selling them on coming to Kanas for four years, taking 28 shots in a senior-year showdown with Oklahoma, and not getting drafted at all (here's looking at you, Perry).

Why in the world would a kid want to live up to his draft hype and leave before senior day?

Well the end of a day and one helluva game of hoops. Best game of year so far with the UNC/UTx game being the second. Now it's January basketball, time to jockey for conference lead. The Cats top off January in Lawrence. Tough tough odds on road there but we can run with em. Our boys will come a long way in 4 weeks. I fear not playing KU. Cal has a tweak or two planned.....[smoke]

Mason actually touched the ball while it was still in the inbounders hands out of bounds. That's an automatic technical

The 3 feet rule is an unwritten rule. The refs tell the defender so he doesn't get too close to stepping over the OOBs line. The only 3 feet mentioned on inbounding rules in the rule book is the inbounder has a 3 foot radius he must stay in when inbounding.

Still Mason should have received a warning for stepping on the OOBs line. Refs missed that but they missed a lot of calls both ways.

Also KU's FTs in OT the only call that I thought was questionable was the call on Woodard where he knocked the ball away from Lucas. Thought that was close and would have been fine if there was a no call. At first thought I thought Woodard's 5th foul wasn't a foul but replay showed he jumped into Graham and the foul call was correct.

Regarding Mason guarding the out of bounds...yes the refs should've moved him back. He even acknowledged in the post game that he stepped up and basically dared the refs to call it. It was a ballsy gamble and it paid off.

Go back to the end of the first half and OU got 3 points they shouldn't have gotten on the clean Mason steal and subsequent Self tech. I don't have an issue with how the refs called either one, because frankly that's just the sport. There will be dozens of plays in any basketball game that could be scrutinized and perhaps overturned if a person was so inclined. It's just how it is, and you can't ever single out one missed call as the one that cost it.

Doesn't really take away from a great game in my opinion, just gives us fans more to argue about.

I'm curious though, what exactly happens if they call something on the inbounds? Does it count as a foul? Or they just back him up and reset the 5 seconds?

Best case is that Kansas beats them and everyone else; Kentucky comes in and beats Kansas on their home court which would vault us up the polls (assuming we are winning other games as well).
Not sure best case going into post season is that we maybe lose a close game there as it will be hard to overcome Ks and refs and play them again in FF with Skal having 2 more months of experience

I don't believe he is talking about the over Th back, but the missed shot that led to the over the back. The KU player who missed the shot was clearly hit in the head on the shot..that is the reason the fans were booing so much when they showed the replay. The KU player should have been shooting 2 free throws with a couple seconds left.

Yep.

There were some missed calls but overall I thought the refs did good.

Jealous you can't play teams like that in the SEC? i don't know how you guys watch those League games. Y'all really need to bolt to the ACC or BIG. Like decades ago

Your league sucks worst than the SEC. Your puny little conferences produces nothing on the big stage. Rack up those conferences like they mean mean something. Jokes on you.

Fair enough. You like SEC play. I won't tell you that you can't. I just don't see how you could, but diff strokes for diff folks.

I just think it's pointless to discuss cause UK is never leaving the SEC. I just look at it like it is what it is. Of course seeing games with greater competition would be nice but we do play a tough non conference. Can't do much about the SEC. It goes in cycles tho. SEC will be good again at some pt.

FWIW the weakness of the SEC hasn't hurt our post season runs.

I don't think it hurts you either. I never bought into the "getting tougher thru conf play" stuff. Your team is what it is: good or bad.

But I'm talking only entertainment value. I tuned into some of your game vs. Ole Miss the other night and they coudln't even complete a pass into the post guy. It was pathetic. Football is impossible for you guys in the SEC, and hoops is pointless

I know you want to contribute to this discussion. I can tell. It's something you'd like to do.

Ole Miss is bad.

I think the biggest issue is at the top with the SEC. I mean just going by Kenpom rankings you have UK at 16th, Texas AM 20th, Florida 21st, USC 23rd and Vandy at 26th. That's not bad. But it's lacking your top 10 or top 15 teams.

Other than Florida in recent history, there really hasn't been any top tier teams besides UK in the SEC.

Then again I suppose one could say the Big 12 is just top heavy. Really good teams in KU and Oklahoma, good teams in Iowa St and WVU and then the rest.

Since 1990 the SEC has 6 National Championships. The Big12 has 1.
