ESPN QB Situation Rankings

ESPN did a list of QB situation and broke teams out by tiers. There are 20 tiers and we're in TIER 8. It's an ESPN+ Paywall.

There are 34 teams ahead of us.

Tier 8 features: Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Maryland, & UNC

Here's what was said:

TIER 8: Shoes to fill (15 players)

OK, when we say "shoes to fill," it's worth noting that a few are Size 25 Jordans and others are a comfortable pair of Sketchers. Regardless, these are five programs which have gotten solid -- and in some cases, spectacular -- QB play in recent years, who now need to replace veteran starters with younger alternatives. In most cases, the quarterback stepping into those shoes is still yet to be determined. What's clear though is that expectations will be high, but success is far from guaranteed.

  • Since 2011, Kentucky hasn't had a single season of 20 TD passes and had just one season with 2,700 or more passing yards. The Wildcats have now hit those marks in three straight years.
  • In the past two seasons, 108 quarterbacks have started at least six Power 5 games. Kentucky transfers Wimsatt and Morris rank 97th and 104th, respectively, in Total QBR.

MJ Morris is at Maryland, that's a typo. So ESPN is feeling like we're in a better spot at QB.

Remember....there was a time when it was...
Stephen Johnson, Terry Wilson, Gunnar Hoak, Danny Clark, Nic Scalzo, Sawyer Smith, Walker Wood, Joey Gatewood (now a tight end)...and we were thinking that Beau Allen himself was the best QB talent we had brought in a long time as a freshman.

Or how about....Morgan Newton, Max Smith, Jalen Whitlow....

We have a former 5-star from UGA as our starter. Our backup was a former 4-star that started a full year in the Big Ten. 3rd string is a 5th year senior who has started in FCS...been in our program too. And we have a 4-star freshman likely red-shirting. It's not great, but it looks so much better...

Other teams of note:
-Louisville: Tier 10
-Bama, UGA, Oregon, & Texas: Tier1
-Tennessee: Tier 4
-Florida: Tier 5
-Clemson/Penn State: Tier 7
-USCjr.: Tier 14

Cats already looking good for ‘25?

I will admit I am a Kentucky baseball fan, but it has been pretty casual up until the last few years. My brother-in-law who is avid Arkansas baseball fan, says that we already already have the number one transfer portal class for 2025.

I’ve seen nothing about any portal signings and for the most part, googling it isn’t helping.

Anyone seen any of this that my brother in law speaks of? Thanks

KSR podcast question

Has anyone else had problems with the podcast on the KSR app? When I go to play the latest episode from the radio it always goes back and plays the remote at Valhalla. Am I the only one who can’t get new podcasts? Are they on a new app? I just have the KSR app.

Anyhow, just curious. Thanks for any help. And sorry to the KSR haters. I’m sure some were dying to come here and bash them just to see a simple question 😂😂

Railbird Music Festival

Who's going? Who's been there before?

This year will be my first time going, Have tickets for both days for me and my wife. No chairs of any kind allowed. What's up with that? You gotta stand or sit on the ground the entire day?

Also, parking? They have shuttles from Kroger Field, but the shuttle passes are sold out. No parking at Red Mile to speak of. Do people and businesses near the track set up paid lots around the track like they do around the stadium for football? Where else is good to park that's a relatively short walk for a guy with a not so good knee?

Alien Romulus

Anyone excited for this? I'm pumped and have read a lot of good things about it. Scott and Cameron have both been wowed by this movie so that's a really good sign. There have been some turds in this franchise for sure (looking at you Alien 3 and Covenant). Alvarez has proven to be a good maker of horror movies and practical effects trumps cgi in this movie. Being a HUGE fan of the first two flicks and Prometheus, which has grown on me big time, I'm excited to be there on Day 1.

***** KENTUCKY CWS INTRO PRESS CONFERENCE NOTES *****

Hello all. Good Thursday afternoon to everyone. We will have Kentucky taking the podium in Omaha for the College World Series introductory press conference here shortly. I'll be sharing all the notes and tidbits that the Cats have to share here in this thread. Stay tuned...

KENTUCKY Q&A:

* Nick Mingione: Excited, thankful. A handful of wins away from being national champions, which is everyone's goal when the season starts.

* Mitchell Daly... Some of the nerves started wearing off when they got out there for the first practice. Just ready to go play now. Daly has been there before with Texas as a freshman. Didn't appreciate how hard it was to get there at the time. Trying to share that with his teammates, don't take it for granted.

* Johnny Hummel on the SEC preparing them for this event... It's the best conference, so they feel like they're ready. Just have to go play their game they've always played. Mitchell Daly adds that the schedule has prepared them for this.

* Daly on the park in Omaha... Play on some natural surfaces in the SEC. They're comfortable with turf or natural. This park kinda plays big like KPP, so they feel like it's a smooth adjustment for them.

* Minge tells a story about Hummel coming from a D2 program where sometimes there was 7-8 people in the stands. Then he goes to closing out a game at a place like Mississippi State and came off the mound with huge eyes. "Man, that was awesome!"

* Minge says Daly might be one of the biggest winners in college baseball right now. Every year, he's been with a team in the super regionals. Says he and Hummel are "true winners."

* Asked if he's reached out to anyone about making this trip, Minge points out that he had the experience of coming with Mississippi State, but he has reached out to a few people who have been here more recently. There's a lot going on out there this week in "the Mecca of college baseball." You get pulled in a lot of different directions, but you have to keep the main focus on the task at hand.

* Asked about Robert Hogan's recruitment and development, Minge says he was watching him on video scouting, and just saw a player with tremendous energy and confidence. Then watched him another time and it didn't look like the same guy. He had two bracelets on his hand when he came for his visit. Said he wore one for a really good friend in Texas who had autism and another for his faith. Turned out, Minge knew the guy in Texas. Met him in 2018 at the Minute Maid Classic and became friends. Felt like fate. Hogan is a guy who has really developed and played great this season. Walks out there like he owns the mound now.

* Asked about his favorite moment of the season, Minge's son Reeves says watching the celebration after they won the super regional.

* On his coach of the year honor... Talks about the first time he won it in 2017, he was naive, thought things were easy. "Boy, was I wrong. This life will humble you in a second." Says it's really a reflection of the team. It's a team award. The thing it underscores is I have surrounded myself with amazing people.

* Minge says to people of Omaha, if you want a team to root for, this is your team to get behind. We would love for you to jump on board the Kentucky bandwagon. Have a Nebraskan, Eli Small, on the roster. Come root him on.
