Stoops tried to leave...like Calipari....

I know Cal negotiated with Piggy Land in violation of his contract, and you would think Mitch had that stipulation in Stoops contract as well....

You would think.

Bottom line...he wanted to leave.....and to then to have this type of season......he has to go....................Yea, I know, we are stuck with him apparently.

Interesting factoid re transfer portal I saw last night

Watched some of IU Purdue game, and at one point they showed that Indiana had the most total starts of transfers of any team in the country this year, as evidence that Cignetti had completely and successfully turned over the roster (he did). No. 3 on the list was also no surprise, Colorado. Coach Prime has silenced a lot of doubters this year with the total rebuild he put together, and probably will have the Heisman Trophy winner to brag about by Saturday night.

So far, so good, sounds like a total retool via the portal is the way to go. But wait . . . .

. . . guess who was no. 2 on the list of most starts by transfers this year?

It was Mississippi State, who is the worst team in the SEC. And since I was watching Purdue (from what I saw, quite possibly the worst P4 team in the country), have to note they brought in highly recruited Hudson Card to be their QB1 last season, and went 4-8 and 1-11 while he was the starter.

Point being, it is a lot easier said than done to just rebuild your roster in the off season with transfers. Cignetti and Sanders did it by taking a lot of kids from lower levels, who they knew could really run and play. Have no idea where Miss State got the bulk of their transfers, but it obviously did not work. We have mainly brought in kids from other P4 programs, e.g., Ohio State, Bama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee, and that has not worked either.

Personally, if I were the GM of UK football, I would try to keep the younger players happy and build the defense around the young kids already on the roster, e.g., the Smith twins from Corbin, Nichols, Brian Robinson, etc. On offense, I would go with Boley/Wimsatt at QB, Wilcox/Patterson and freshmen at RB; Gilmore/Maclin (try to keep him)/Rodriguez for receivers.

So, main thing I would do with portal is look for offensive linemen, not sure there are enough other good players and NIL resources out there to cure all our ills at once via the portal.

Mark Stoops "vows to fix kentuckys problems" " i am not going anywhere"

Great to hear another year of stoops thanks MITCH can't wait wish it could start tomorrow you get your bad clock management
You get your grind it out ball control
You get your asinine unsportsman like penalties
You get your players standing on the sidelines that should be in the game playing
You get your non physical offensive line and defensive line performances
Here is the topper we get to watch vandy beamer and louisville kick our ass again can't frickin wait MITCH

If this was not academia (aka the ivory tower) the buyout would not be an issue

Stoops does not deserve another chance nor do the numbers provide an excuse. It's lazy because in the SEC any team is a cash cow.

Stoops has lost this program. Period. You can also see in his eyes he has lost himself. Any inkling of support from players or fans has left. I wish Barnhart would do simple math. The buyout is not that big when you factor it all in from a lower head coach salary to what will be Joker level season ticket sales. I can't even watch on TV and I never missed a moment of what used to be the worst times in UK football. This is unfixable unless Stoops goes. The why is a very long list.

What a real football team would do with our fans. You can't put a number on that.

Stoops is stubborn because of his last name. He has already signed off.

Possible Technology Solution to the Mincey problem.

Allow the players to use DoorDash, Grubhub or Uber Eats from the sideline? It would be more fair to the opposing team because they get hungry too. Hungry opposing players would not get in confrontations with drunks in line. Walk-ons could share their fries with someone higher on the depth chart. Builds comradery.

It did look odd seeing a player in the concession line. But if they could just order quietly on the app then an Uber driver could drop off a bag of Chick fil a without a lot of fanfare.

Purdue firing head coach: perfect fit for Stoops

Purdue job is coming open. From a “fit” perspective, this is probably the best hope we have, short of Iowa unexpectedly opening up. He can go up there about $6 mil/year and play his preferred style in the cold while aiming toward 6-7 win seasons and they’ll be relatively fine with it. Come on down, Purdue, we’ve found your man.

Clink and House return?

I can’t find a link, but apparently Matt Jones is saying he expects Brad White to leave and Mike Stoops to retire. Did he say that on the post game show? I didn’t listen to it.

The names Steve Clinkscale and Matt House were mentioned as likely DC replacements. I think you have to go get both of these guys. Clink needs to be DC, he’s an elite coach IMO.

But also, apparently Bush is back along with going all in on Cutter Boley. It’s said that fixing the OL and getting personnel in fits his system…

If the OL/offense isn’t fixed, I can’t even at least be delusional in some positivity. If Neal Brown gets fired I’d love to have him back as OC. But it seems Mark is doubling down on Bush…ughhh

Coaching Carousel possibilities...

Brown already out at UNC... who do yall think will be next? I was thinking about Day at Ohio State.... wondering if he is gonna survive, I think he could get sent packing. 4 consecutive losses to Michigan. If that job opens up it will set off a chain reaction that will affect a few different jobs...guess it would depend on which ones open up whether it would affect us or not. Lincoln Riley sure has fallen from grace at USC too... another coach that I could see getting the boot.

Last 10 years: UK's recruiting vs final SEC standings

I put together this table showing where UK's class ranking (per 247sports) placed out of the SEC teams and where we finished at the end of each season. Do we realistically think things can get better with the addition of Texas/Oklahoma?

YearUK's class ranking (out of total SEC teams)UK's Final SEC standing
2024#13 (out of 16) 15th out of 16 in SEC
2023#11 (out of 14)4th in East (7th out of 14)
2022#8 (out of 14)4th in East (8th out of 14)
2021#12 (out of 14)2nd in East (4th out of 14)
2020#9 (out of 14)4th in East (9th out of 14)
2019#12 (out of 14)4th in East (8th out of 14)
2018#11 (out of 14)2nd in East (5th out of 14)
2017#12 (out of 14)3rd in East (7th out of 14)
2016#13 (out of 14)4th in East (8th out of 14)
2015#10 (out of 14)5th in East (12th out of 14)

Where Is The Calipari Clause?

Stoops talked to Texas A&M last year. Didn't he have the same line in his contract as Cal did that if he entertained offers from other institutions that he would lose his buy out ?
I'm not a Stoops hater ,but I hated what I saw this year. That was a complete and total mess of a product. And for all the lashing out at Bush Hamdan ,Brad White was far worse because he actually had some talent on that side of the ball and they were severely under coached. Tackling was pathetic and since D'erek Jackson went down,no one was coached up to get the front set right at the LOS,even with a voice in the head gear! They were outnumbered on the LOS to a disgrace both against Texas and Louisville. It would have been stupid for either of them to throw more than a half dozen passes .
And Matt Jones makes himself even look more ignorant when he constantly praises Brad White and even sticks him up as the next head coach from time to time. That would be a psunami of piss poor football.
