Zion and Pelicans agree to 5 year max rookie extension

I'm not a huge Zion fan... Mostly because he is a Dookie and has underperformed so far.

With that said he is losing weight and working on his game more. I have a feeling he turns things around and has a decent career. Call me crazy but I think that's what happens. If not it will be top 10 busts in NBA history

That’s really stupid but it is the Pelicans. Lol. Wow. Wall has probably played in more games recently and he at least did something to deserve the contract in the first place. The world goes around and the Pelicans continue to suck and make stupid decisions. Shocker.
Pretty sure Zion played like 60 games in the 72 year season just 2 seasons ago.

Underperformed? He averaged 22 ppg his rookie season and 27 ppg his second season

We will see. Losing weight and keeping it off is probably the hardest thing to do in modern America.

He did some scoring. But he has only played 85 games in his career. Still has no jumper. Has 1 pull up jumper in his last playing season and all points come from rim. Points are points but if he doesn't change his body and shot it's a wrap
I understand the games played but not very many players in the history of the nba have averaged 27 ppg in their second season. His play style is very inside oriented but that doesn’t matter because of how unstoppable he is inside 15 ft

Whether you love him or hate him this is a huge gamble for the Pel's. I would have taken my chances on seeing how next season went and if he played well plus stayed healthy at least you would have had a tradable player at the deadline and not $243 million dollars wasted if he misses a bunch more games. His history makes the risk greater than the reward IMO. He's 3 years in and has missed 2/3 of the games his team played during that span.

just proves even people with tons of $$$ are total dumbarses when "hoping, wanting, pretending" and ignoring reality are what drives them.

They really don’t have much a choice I guess. Either pay him and gamble on a superstar or lose him and get nothing

Umm… he’s been in the league for three seasons, not two. He played only 24 games his first season, only 61 his second, and ZERO his third. He’s injury prone, overweight, and apparently has made no serious effort to get in better shape, given that the most recent photos show him looking fatter than ever. The notion that a guy with that first three-year record deserves a $231 million extension seems insane.

But I do get how it happens. Small market teams in today’s NBA are screwed, they know the only hope they have to retain their best or most marketable players is to offer these crazy max extensions, even in circumstances where it’s absurdly risky and likely to backfire. You can get away with offering less and exercising discretion if you’re the Lakers, but not so much when you’re New Orleans.

Stop it. You will hurt the apparent Zion cult we have on here.

No kidding. We will get another round of lectures on how we should kiss Duke’s ass and how it’s dumb to take shots at their alumni in the NBA.

Meanwhile, Zion is still struggling and Kylie keeeps mumbling how he can’t believe Magellan didn’t fall of the Earth.

Speaking of Kyrie. What about KD trying to title hop, yet again by wanting to be traded to PHX or MIA? Lol

I pray neither happen. Send his ass to the z pelicans or something. Haha
