Wow - UL Pay Scale

Every campus has experienced a ton of growth and new buildings in the last couple decades. Once again Card fans are missing the point, it is not that Ramsey is getting paid a lot, it is how much more he is getting paid when compared to other (far better) academic institutions. And of course today another article out that the above numbers are *vastly* understated, and that Ramsey is making far more than earlier reported.

And the UL endowment moved into the top 100 http://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/news/2014/01/31/u-of-l-endowment-cracks-the-top-100.html
I believe the pay is for growth, as it should be. The compensation is for moving the university forward. Ramsey has done a tremendous job, most people who donate to UL agree with me. I have 1 graduate and 1 current student enrolled there, and I pay money to the University basically every month, either in tuition, or the CAF, or the endowment. I also have a student at UK, and I think Capilouto does a fine job. I don't have a problem with his pay, and I have skin in the game, at both places.

No UL fans upset about this? ;)
Not here. I think of Jim Ramsey as a head coach at a major university. He is very active in all facets of the university and on top of his achedemic responsibilities, he can be found with his wife at just about every home sporting event from Basketball, Football to Soccer, Softball, Baseball, Track and Field, literally all of them. What he has accomplished during his tenure is remarkable. The university has gone from a commuter school to having upwards of 6000 students living in state of the art dorms and other privately funded apartments spread all over Belknap campus. While the athletic department played a huge part in getting them into the ACC, the growth potential academically is now in place to continue to build achedemically as a member in the conference as well. This does not happen without Jim Ramsey's leadership and it's money well spent.

New buildings being built and more students living either in dorms or the university apartments is a national trend, not anything unique to Louisville. Not sure why UofL fans keep trying to build that up as something special, it is literally happening everywhere.

It's almost like the Presidents job is to, one, ensure the success of the Athletics programs and, two, raise money. So no one is concerned about, you know, the academics at uofl? It's a poorly rated commuter school that is only interested in dropping the "commuter" from that description, not the "poorly rated".....

Used to work at a big muckety muck law firm (by Louisville standards). Got to know the senior partner, seen all the wars, real captain of industry type. He was a big uofl fan, but often said they had a pitiful, rubber stamping board. He didn't like UK, called them blue bellies, but said they had a real board with real standards. Jericho and Ramsey get to do basically what they want. All sizzle no steak.....

As so many have pointed out on this board, UofL is nothing but a "City College" or "Commuter School". None of these people have a clue about what has been built at Louisville under Ramsey's leadership. The State of Kentucky should be proud of the progress both UK and UofL have made the last 20 years. In a state that stuggles at all levels of education, both of these Universities are shinning lights to what is possible in our state!!

I do not think the UL fans have a clue about what is happening academically at UL. They cannot commit to higher caliber students, because that would force them to shut the door on the greatest percentage of students that attend the school. And, so long as they keep the bar low, the better students are going elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the UK med school is blowing UL out of the water. Personally, I have thought a combined med school makes sense, but UL is really struggling.

i've been there. it looks nice and it looks a hell of lot better than it did but have you been to any other campuses in the state? campbellsville is wayyyyyy better than it used to be. UK has totally transformed (and is still transforming) it's whole campus... i went to school there and got lost last year trying to drive around because of all the changes.

rewarding him for fundraising is comical though. it seems that mitch mcconnell does a lot of the heavy lifting in that regard and he works for the state (sort of) already.

My daughter is a student at UofL now. Their ACT scores her Freshman year were the highest ever and they are continuing to go up every year.

My son is a senior at UK and their numbers his frosh year were the best UK had seen. I think UK's are even better this year.

So, as schools in general see increases, this anecdotal answer is insignificant. I spoke with an advisor hired by UL and he says they are in an academic pickle. Ramsey promotes anything good, but the overall student body is not improving.
