There's been lots of whining and crying about Coach Calipari and the fact that he's only brought home the bacon on one occasion during his 13 seasons as the head coach. Many on this board want him gone.
Let's put this into perspective ...
You've heard of Coach Rupp, haven't you? Coach Rupp led our Wildcats to NCAA titles in 1948, 1949 and 1951. He then went through a bit of a dry spell.
Coach Rupp retired after the '71/'72 season. During his last 21 years as head coach, UK made it to the Final Four on only two occasions (1958 and 1966) and won the NCAA crown only once (1958).
Now, compare that to Coach Calipari's four Final Four appearances (2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015) and title in 2012. Not too shabby for a 13-year period, eh?
So, was Coach Rupp fired for the lack of hardware during his 21-year "dry spell?" Nope. We named an arena after him.
Dry spells happen. Maybe we should let up on Coach Cal about it. We certainly didn't treat Rupp so roughly.
