Would you accept Bob Huggins as UK coach?

Best way I can phrase this: if it came to it, I'd take Huggins over Donovan. I like the question, OP. It makes a guy think.

Huggins is the best coach out of those 3. Pearl is an emotional coach and his players feed off it. I don't believe he is a great X' sand O's guy. I would go with Donovan if I had a choice. Very good coach and very good recruiter.

I wasn't clear as to my point regarding their playing careers.

Them playing in the NBA would not help in recruiting beings they were end of the bench kind of guys.

With so little experience I was trying to say they dont bring any intangibles such as playing at big time school and having that experience.

I don't think Hoiberg is a good example.

He is a famous alumni, great player..

"Arguably the most popular player in the history of Iowa State basketball, Hoiberg's name is found among the top seven positions for nearly every statistical category, and his number 32 has been retired by Iowa State."

He knows the school, the league, the community and had coaching experience.

Now if we had one of our most famous guys come back after a stint in the NBA coaching world that would make more sense.

But some random guy who didnt play at a big time school, didnt have a solid NBA career, only been an assistant for a couple of years or even a few years without any head coaching experience, without a recruiting record simply wouldn't be considered in my opinion.
Lol Hoiberg is an anomoly. Not really a good example but i threw his name in there. For the sake of discussion i like discussing in hypotheticals, makes for interesting conversation. Hopefully Cal stays so long we dont have to worry about a coach for awhile.

Bob Huggins is a good coach. Not a great coach. He's also old and has health issues and a checkered past due to alcohol abuse
This.

Seems like an honest guy, which I like.

But UK needs to hire "great" or "on the verge of breaking through to great" - not "proven for a long time to be good".

As for my preferences, I go

1. Brad Stevens/Billy Donovan/Sean Miller
2. Pearl
3. Matta/Marshall

Shaka has proven nothing. He made one run, and it wasn't even that deep. Never even won his conference, I don't believe.

But according to Matt Jones, MB's list goes

1. Miller/Stevens
2. Marshall
3. Everybody else

So now its getting screwed by refs if they don't take pity on you and help you get back in the game against UK?

jesus tapdancing christ it's my opinion that huggy's team got shoddier treatment from the refs than any uk opponent

if you want to continue to take issue for whatever obscure motivation it is that drives you, then have at it, champ

We have to hire a good coach first. Our pattern is great coach/good coach/drunk.

I would learn to like him, just like I did Cal. I bought in to all that cheating stuff and I hated the choice when he came here. I even hated the first part of the season when he took all those scholarships away, But I learned to like him as the wins began to pile up.

Huggins is a walking health hazard....the dude is not looking good. I don't see too many years of coaching left for the man.
