I wasn't clear as to my point regarding their playing careers.
Them playing in the NBA would not help in recruiting beings they were end of the bench kind of guys.
With so little experience I was trying to say they dont bring any intangibles such as playing at big time school and having that experience.
I don't think Hoiberg is a good example.
He is a famous alumni, great player..
"Arguably the most popular player in the history of Iowa State basketball, Hoiberg's name is found among the top seven positions for nearly every statistical category, and his number 32 has been retired by Iowa State."
He knows the school, the league, the community and had coaching experience.
Now if we had one of our most famous guys come back after a stint in the NBA coaching world that would make more sense.
But some random guy who didnt play at a big time school, didnt have a solid NBA career, only been an assistant for a couple of years or even a few years without any head coaching experience, without a recruiting record simply wouldn't be considered in my opinion.
