“Those flashes that he showed against LSU of being able to use hesitation moves and get guys off balance, and score in the lane, absorbing contact — I think that’s what he needs to do on a consistent basis,” Givony said. “So, if he can be that guy for the next four, six weeks, then yeah, he could very well work his way into this year’s draft.”

The concern among scouts is Quickley’s fit at the next level. At 6-3, 188 pounds and — relative to NBA standards — lacking tremendous athleticism, he’s not seen as an off-the-ball pro player.

He’d be the best returning player we’ve ever had under Cal, I know that much. I’d rank him just above TJones and Lamb.
I hope he does and plays off the ball next year. Askew as the distributor, with Quickley, Boston, and Clarke around our best big (whoever that ends up being).

I very much doubt he comes back, but that is just because of the culture.

But if he did....he has first team AA and SEC Player of the Year written all over him.

He reminds me a lot of Devonte Graham who recently graduated from KU. He also really blew up as a Sophomore, but the culture at KU says it's fine to stay all 4 years, so he did. He was a National POY candidate and led his team to a FF as a senior.

I could see the same trajectory for IQ, but I doubt he comes back.

Would be absolutely incredible for us fans, but if he keeps playing like he has been, I have a hard time seeing him returning.

I disagree. Jones was dominant, and if he hadn't returned to a team so loaded, you'd have seen it reflected in the numbers.

IQ is an easy second place though, and I think he'd have a result similar to Jones (though not drafted as high).

I don't expect him back, because I think he'll show enough (and is showing enough) of what scouts want to see that it won't benefit him much from a draft stock standpoint to come back.

On the other hand, the leap he made from last year to this year means that he's clearly willing to work hard and improve. If his handle/passing improves at the rate the rest of his game did from year one to year two, he's a late teens/early 20s draft pick. But it would be tough to expect or predict that much improvement from any player twice.

I do hope he sees the starting PG position as his to lose next year and knows that's his biggest question mark to the NBA scouts. If he wants to work on being the lead guard all offseason, there's a lot of room to make himself some money.

I'd totally understand going while his stock is so high though.

I realize none of that took a stance one way or another. tl;dr, probably gone and it makes sense but I'd love to have him back.

Jones was a tough one for me. I agree with you in a lot of ways.

If he's a 1st round projection, I'd advise him to go, but even with his great play of late, it's hard to see him rising that high by April.

If Quickley keeps doing what hes doing there is no way in hell hes not a 1st rounder this year

Only way he would return IMO is if he's given full reigns as a starting PG. That's likely what he will have to be able to do at the next level. Maybe not as a lead guard but he will have to play (and defend) that spot.

As I said for a month If he keeps this up , which I see no way he doesn't as he has been a top 15 player in college since mid January , he is gone as he should be and will be drafted between 35-45 . He is falters some he comes back and is the best player on next year's team.

Would be awesome if he came back. During the Cal era, we have had 26 guys that have been 1st or 2nd team All SEC. Only 1 has come back the following year....Terrance Jones. I'd love for IQ to join him in that category.

There are so many factors than him playing his way into the draft. His father has never seen him play in person because of spiritual beliefs. Maybe his dad wants him to get a degree, just saying. Maybe earning money playing basketball is not his main concern with the future of his son.

Do you still see KW being drafted lottery?

I know this much, the hype for next year will reach 2015-type level insanity, if he does return. That is especially so if Cal adds another big or two. Please let all this fall into place! We’re definitely DUE! Big time!

I think getting IQ back and adding Banchero is the only way it approaches that level, but both of those are definitely in play.

A returning core of IQ, Brooks, Juzang, and EJ would be massive, but adding talent like Clarke, Boston, Askew Ware, Jackson, and Banchero is legitimately 10-deep.

I think EJ might leave, but if we land Banchero to man the 5, then Ware/Jackson/Brooks at the 4/5 means we still have great depth down low.

The only thing tempering my expectations is the very real possibility that EJ leaves and Banchero doesn't reclassify. I think that's maybe even the most likely scenario. That team is still a top 5 contender, but not the juggernaut it could be otherwise.

Just wait and see, he'll start showing up late 1st early 2nd round of the mock drafts very soon. I'll be surprised if he comes back. It's almost too good to be true, and as we've seen time and time again in the Cal era, when that's the case the player almost always goes. And sadly, I think he's the difference in us being a title team next season. It seems like we're always missing that one key piece.

Actually that isn’t the culture at all at UK. Cal has made it clear everyone is on their own timeline numerous times.

Keep in mind, all of those guys came back for sophomore years, IQ would be coming back for his JR year. So PPat and Nick comes to mind. Except IQ is having a head and shoulders better sophomore year then Nick. Nick had to come back. IQ if not a first rounder at then end of the year, would be best suited for a third year. Weak draft so we will see.

I don’t think IQ is in a rush to get to the league. Kid has great surroundings(family and coaching staff) if the draft doesn’t feel right for IQ this year then he will be back. I don’t think IQ has ppl pushing him out.

Everyone remembers IQ not starting in the beginning of the year and we never heard any rumblings of him or his family being upset. They trust Cal and Cal will do what’s best for IQ.

IQ seems like he is wired differently, and marches to his own drum. He might see the appeal of coming back and vying for AA, NPOY, etc.

Either way, I’d wish him the best. He came back this year and has worked his tail off, and we are seeing just how good he can be as a player.

It would be ideal for him to show he can run the point for his NBA prospects. Askew has already said he's in no rush when he gets here. Would be great for us too.

Who knows how it will play out though.
