Wolford Replacement?

Coen's numbers as OC at Maine weren't impressive. That 49ers guy is ob been part of the Shanahan system, which the McVey system is based on. If we hire him it tells me Coen heavily influenced the selection, wants some more Xs & Os help integrating his system.
Yeah and neither were Matt House's as DC at Pitt or FIU. It's always more reassuring to see average numbers with bad talent. Doesn't mean it's definitive.

Senior hasn’t coached in college since 2000. We need a young coach that can recruit. 4 other guys on KSR list looked good, Key, Moore Quinn and Friend. Stops needs to kill this hire. I know there are others but these guys look really good.

Will Friend? He's awful, was bad at UGA, couldn't recruit or coach, left with Bobo and was his OC at Colorado St. where both were fired, went to UT because he is Pruit's best friend, was fired in that mess, when to S. Carolina and left for AU. Not sure if he was fired with Bobo from there, but was not very good at UGA and terrible recruiter.

He was the OL coach at Kansas 2015-2017, and I know he probably had bad talent, but the stats were pretty bad. At the bottom of just about every statistical category (sacks allowed, TFL allowed, rush yards per play, FEI 2015, 2016, and 2017). I was hoping to see at least a bump to 75-80th in the country.

Not trying to make any final judgements, but just passing along as a fysa.
If you can coach 4 years at Kansas and a couple years later end up on an NFL sideline, you must be pretty good.

This.^^^^^^

Will Friend would be a terrible hire IMO.

UT had their worst offensive line in history under this guy. And they definitely were not short on talent, just bad coaching and bad scheme from what I saw.

Not crazy about the 49er guy. Key, Quinn or the Michigan guy sound great. Hope Stoops doesn’t do a buddy hire. We should be able to get a great coach.

You can’t knock Quinn’s success at putting players in the NFL that relates to recruiting and coaching

If CMS misses on this hire, he will jeopardize the future of the offense. Hoping he gets it right.

I like this guy's resume, including the fact Tim Beck apparently likes him.

John Garrison - OL Coach NC State

He worked for Pellini at Nebraska. He worked with Marrow. Does this happen?

Let's build a wish list from here... try to link to bios?
Effective coaching, particularly in pre-game warm ups, does not require the near constant use of profanity, especially liberal F-bombs. I think it puts your coaching effectiveness potentially in question when possibly one or more kids might not be so receptive to that "technique." As such, and knowing that what I am telling you is an absolute fact, I am not at all bothered by this change and rather glad to see Wolford go. I am sure his replacement will work out better for us.

So, he has a reckless 17 year old boy's concept of how to be a man? Yeah... good riddance. We can do MUCH better starting right there... maybe Saban will grow him up?

You should be. I'm a lifelong 49ers fan and he's highly thought of within the organization. He's a Kentucky native to boot.

The offense we run is the same as the 49ers. Having someone in sync with Coen and is experienced at the NFL level is a big positive. Plus he worked under Schlarman at Troy.

There is nothing not to like about him.

You probably wouldn't like DeMeco Ryans (49ers DC) then. He uses a lot of language on the sidelines and he has been absolutely incredible for us. Our D-line coach is also pretty profane and nobody has done a better job for us than he has. He has Bosa and Armstead but the rest of the 9 man rotation were cast offs and UDFA's and they are the meanest group in the NFL.

I understand not personally caring for foul language. But I don't see any correlation between such language and capability. The younger coaches talk like their players. A lot of foul language. Just a generational thing maybe?

Think that dude could check a lot of boxes, especially with Georgia ties. Part that stood out to me was the comment on utilizing SF's depth on the line, which has been a criticism of Wolford.
Kyle Shanahan is a great at developing coaches. Just like his father was.

Yes he would do a good job rotating the line. We rotate guys in SF and have done a great job having guys prepared to step in when injury required it. Lost our RT for the season and never missed a beat. Trent Williams missed the must win week 18 game vs LA and a 6th round pick stepped in and played great.

We would be in great hands with Yenser. Having that NFL experience with possibly the best line unit in the league helps tremendously on the recruiting pitch.

I tell ya, if this guy had anything to do with San Francisco offensive line ... sign me up .

They are Joe burrow with a cinci o line for qb.

I like this idea. Hope we keep coen.

I'm not by any means a prude. Among other things, I'm an avid golfer, so you already know I too can spew a few choice words. Also, it doesn't matter if I like him or not, but it matters to the players. The SEC and the NFL are quite a bit different, starting with paying contracts, then age, ability, and maybe most importantly, mental maturity. I only pointed out that our kids might not always be so receptive to that kind of willful and liberal over use of profanity (the series "Deadwood" comes to mind), especially when a coach really doesn't have to use it to motivate or educate. Wolford staying only one year really didn't give us fans enough sampling to know of his effectiveness as a coach. It would be interesting to hear some of our players' thoughts about him, although now it's a moot point. I guess for our kids' sake, being a former coach and educator, I would prefer someone who has the good sense to know how to motivate and teach in the pre-game without resorting to so much profanity...and I will see first hand how that goes in the fall.

Good points. Can he recruit or does he want to recruit is the first question I would ask. I guess it will play out if it’s meant to be.

I know absolutely nothing about this guy other than he looks like Meaney from the movie The Waterboy.

I know UGA lost an OL coach to an HC position. How many OL coaches at Bama have become HCs from the OL job?
It may not be directly to HC. May just be to OC somewhere. But coaches under Saban have been getting jobs rather quickly in recent years. It makes sense from a career standpoint to take that opportunity because you're more likely to be promoted from Bama than UK. Though you can from the latter also.

I don't like the way he left. It was poorly handled. But I understand the why of it.

If he can recruit that's a huge bonus, but I never thought of Schlarman as a "good" recruiter. Having said that, with the loss of Sumrall someone on staff is going to have to recruit better. It can't just be Marrow.

By looking at this guy, I think he's the best option. He works in the same offense and conceivably could be a potential replacement for coen once he moves on (whenever that is).

I can't stress enough how important it is to keep offensive continuity. It's unquestionably the best offense right now in football. 3/4 of the conference finalists ran a version of it. Also we changed our entire recruiting philosophy.

hope we can bring him in

Agree, whether he's trying to be hip and fit in with the boys or not it reflects some level of lack of maturity. we all let one fly from time to time and I played sports and know Coaches do too when worked up. But when you feel like you have to or try to in a regular basis its a lack of maturity.

I really like this hire.... It may take a minute for his recruiting to come, may hit the ground running, who knows. From a pure coaching standpoint, I think this is an excellent hire.

If Stoops wants to sell recruits on development and going pro, hiring coaches with NFL experience is key.

If you don't think thats the angle they take with Coen and offensive players, you're kidding yourself.
