Will we be playing at texas in October?

Frankly, with the exception of the PAC 12 officials who tossed Bennie in the MCB in 2016, I have few specific complaints the last few years.

And we got a pretty big payback against Mississippi State in 2018. State had backed themselves into a 3rd and 40 in the third Q, and unleashed a Hail Mary-type pass. A referee threw a flag on us for pass interference, but it got picked up quickly without explaination. The replay showed contact and the ball was catchable?!?!?!

I think all of us have had some go our way we weren't expecting to get. Our game against osu this year, the targeting call that was picked up, wasn't expecting it but their helmets never touched and by written rule wasn't targeting. Benny getting tossed was pretty cheap for sure.

That was actually a GREAT play by Ajian. The flag was picked up because it was a pushoff by the WR that got separation. It wasn't a payback. Josh Allen was being held, tackled, and ridden all day. Pretty egregious officiating the entire game.

I was just joking but we went to A&M they never returned the game.
That was the problem with the old scheduling. They would have eventually returned but old scheduling took 12 years to cycle through everyone going home and home…to date they have only played 10 seasons in the SEC. It will now happen every 4 years.

As an aside, the replies in this thread are a good example of how much more reasonable this board can be compared to the basketball board.

And while I understand that some may take that as me knocking the basketball side of things, that’s not my intent.

My intent was more to just reiterate my firm belief that UK football fans are among the best and most underrated fans in all of sports. For whatever that’s worth.
The basketball only fans are mostly unbearable.

Austin is going to be one of those road trips where you arrive on Wednesday and leave on Sunday because there's so much to do. Can't wait for it.
If we ever end up playing in Austin the same weekend as the US Grand Prix, that would be a trip worth making.

Only downside would be if the UK game was scheduled to occur at the same time as qualifying.

Well I can say first hand that waiting for sundown & the bats flying out from under the bridge is a waste.

Austin is a liberal ghetto
Have you spent time in Austin? It is no ghetto. The main problem is traffic because the city has grown so fast. Excellent nightlife and restaurants. The Hill Country is one of the nicest and most beautiful areas in the entire US. Austin itself is the capitol of Texas, a conservative state. UT is huge and, yes, UT is liberal campus. But most people in that part of Texas are either descendents of cowboys or else people who moved in from other states. While there are a lot of former Californians, there are also a lot of former Iowans, Kansans, Missourians, and Oklahomans. Those people are conservative. Texans hate the former Californians. Their motto there for Californians is bring your families, not your politics.

I would add the airport to the list of problems. We arrived about two hours early for an 8AM flight and had to run the last part to make the flight. Very long lines for everything.

If it were up to me, I'd definitely schedule a bit more strategically. Now, I'm not sure athletic brass can do a whole lot because conference and TV dictate most of the scheduling, I think.

However, if there was some wiggle room, I'd bump UL and a late October early November sec game to September.

This does a few things. First, the home opener should be a big event and sell out. It's good for the fans, team, and game in general to kick off the season with full stadiums and great atmospheres.

Second, the team needs to play a couple competitive game early on and good TV slots as well.

Specifically, Kentucky whose football brand isn't as big...we basically handicap ourselves every year because nobody sees us play until about October. Our first 3 games are always home vs Lake Erie region tech schools.

Limiting exposure hurts recruiting. Competitively, we go in the hole as well because for the first month the team isn't really getting a whole lot.

Then October rolls around, finally we get a TV game vs a decent SEC opponent, everyone is watching...thud...we're not in OOC Kansas anymore. We get popped.

Then, there's the inevitable murderer's row that comes every season. Why not, break it up? This is where the OOC can actually serve a purpose across all college football. Break up the home stretch and maybe rest some players at practice and even load manage how much they play with a couple Tech St South West Central North East schools during that mid October to mid November run?
I'll agree with you on exposure and I'd like to see us play an interesting non-conference opponent now and then.

But our early results haven't been bad the last few years...we've beaten Florida and some others (like SC and Missouri) during the first half of the season in spite of the weak non-conference warm-ups.

It's mostly been the middle and late part of our schedule when the SEC grind starts to wear us down and we lose a couple we shouldn't. Or, in the case of 2019 and 2022, QB injury issues.

IMO because we play them in 2023 we won't play Bama in 2024. So I fully expect UK to play Texas & Oklahoma in 2024, among the 6 'rotating opponents.

Saw a supposed schedule for TU longhorns on fb had them playing uk in Austin. What a nightmare if true.
You’re on a roll

I'm sure there are several variations floating around. The complex process of coordinating 12 dates across 13 weeks for 16 diff schools can't be slapped together in minutes.

A mathematician with a computer can do it in minutes. Just needs to know the givens and nulls.

Good. Hope so

Maybe somebody w some spunk on this team walks into their trophy room after UK wins by 25, and takes that gold cowboy hat and says “know your place Texas, know your place”

People's perception of what Texas football is, has only been matched by actual results on the field & in wins/losses twice in the last 40 yrs (2005, 2008)

I fully expect UK's 2024 slate to include Texas & Oklahoma & LSU among our 9. Maybe we will actually finally get that return visit from Texas A&M also.

Sadly, that's not saying nearly enough, even when it's not true.

The SEC football officiating is still atrocious with clear bias favoring the "projected to be playoff bound" or boosting for better bowl/eligibility late in the season. And though we knew it was bad against Georgia, Auburn, SpewT and Bama in the past, I'm guessing @Texas and @OU should be very similar.

Scheduling will likely favor Texas as it does Florida, Georgia, and Bama.

^ So SEC already knows who the best teams besides Ga and Al will be in 2024. Thanks.

Yep. If I still count myself amongst the living by then, I'll gladly attend the game. Darrell K Royal -- Texas Memorial Stadium lies a mere 8 miles distant from our place. Right on the bus route

Heh, I believe we're up to 20+ local breweries and counting. Tito's Vodka distilled nearby.

Just talking to my wife about it. If we're still walking upright and have no unforeseen emergencies, we want to make it. Get there on Wednesday, leave on Monday. We'll probably fly out of Palm Beach or Miami, but I've also thought about making a road trip out of it with a couple of stops in Louisiana to eat at a couple of spots a friend told me about. I'll have to keep this trip a secret from my cardiologist and primary care physician.

I was there when we played at A&M on 10.06 in 2018. Beautiful evening. What's the supposed problem?
VH,

You have a VERY different recollection of that game. My brother and I attended, also. During the day, we rented bikes and rode all over campus (A&M fans are very nice, btw). Sweated our asses off. IIRC, the high that day was right at 95 degrees and the humidity was high. The temperature at game time wasn't too bad, but the humidity was even higher (having lived in Houston for 6 years, that wasn't a surprise). Pretty much sweated my butt off throughout the game, too. Terry Wilson was SO bad that game. Couldn't get any offense going whatsoever.

The atmosphere was terrific, though, much better than the few games I've attended at Darryl Royal Stadium. Eye candy was very abundant at both places. Blonds with long legs, sun dresses and cowboy boots do NOT suck. Surprisingly, the atmosphere at DR was very tame, considering both games I attended were sellouts (~100k) and TX was playing a ranked Okie State. Several times throughout the game, there was very little noise. Not so at A&M - pretty constant roar going on.

If by some chance they end up scheduling the UK game during the same weekend as US Grand Prix, then I’m probably going to have to end up making the trip.

If that happens, how long do you think it would take to get from COTA to the stadium? The map says it’s about 30 minutes, but that doesn’t account for gameday and race traffic.

Wasn’t sure how bad traffic gets for those events.
