Why do we take forever to run a play?

Gotta get it just right to run up the middle for two yards
Gotta give some of our fans something to complain about.

Do you remember the good old days when we had more two stars starting than three stars, plus two walkons. Playing for that coach that didn't know what to do with all that superior talent he had. Joker.

We definitely look much better when we are forced to speed things up. I'd love it if we played a hurry up style of offense.

It isn’t sexy and exciting to fans but it’s actually an effective strategy when you’re a middle of the pack team in a conference with some traditional powers. There is a reason we have played Georgia closer than almost anyone recently to where you’re a few breaks here and there that went the other way from it being a coinflip game.

When you play that way the goal is offensive efficiency and high Redzone conversion instead of pure volume.

We will not make the next step until we play faster. Every offensive coordinator has played slow under Stoops. We average 51 snaps a game and the top team averages 90. The sad thing is that we have played three of our cupcake games and we should of been lighting up the scoreboard. Points matter.

When you’re an administrator you cannot be on top of everything. You must delegate and trust in your own decisions. I’m not convinced that m stoops can do that. It’s micromanagement and it doesn’t work

We need to avg about 35ppg to have a hope to win the East. That is the goal... go to Atl. So if we aren't going to put ourselves in a position to score 35ppg then we are basically playing for 2nd or 3rd place. We need to take that next step and this year is as good of a time to try to do that as we've seen.

BUT, if you play this deliberately you MUST NOT make STUPID UNFORCED errors!!!!!

For our program to get to a point where we can ACTUALLY beat UGA, playing near mistake free is imperative!!!

That's why these first 3 games are so frustrating. We all know that these DUMB mistakes will keep UK Football from reaching it's potential EVEN with the DEEPEST roster in 45 years.

I don’t seem to recall there being this much angst about pace during Coen’s first season here, and our pace is not that much different than the first 3 games of that season.

In 2021, we averaged close to 28.5 seconds of game clock per play over the first 3 games. This season, we’re averaging about 30 seconds per play. So our pace has slowed slightly, but not by much.

Not sure why this has suddenly become such a concern when it didn’t seem to be one in 2021.

For some of us it has always been a concern under Stoops. It's why we think he has reached his ceiling here and has nowhere to go but down. You can't play like we do without having good talent, efficiency, and play mistake free. You don't do all of that and you get games like the first 3.

1. I agree we need to be wary of how slow we snap the ball not just for the sake of pace…but I think so much going on after rhe huddle at LOS is part of why so many procedure penalties. Those guys in stance them waiting so long then to try to fire off in this zone blocking scheme in unison….not easy snd we may be making harder
2. But the snap delay js we don’t call play in LOS but in huddle. Then we usually do motions to give Leary read on if it’s man or zone coverage. Secondly…at snap of ball we do slot of Wr jet sweep motions to get rhe defense reacting (eye candy) so when we run ball it gives advantage to our running backs and OLine block

It’s a good debate for sure. But the opinions that this is Stoops master plan to muck the game up to par his defense stats is sort of silly. Shannon Dawson when at UK did a ton of pace (now he was fired). But gaining a few extra seconds per snap isn’t a huge time of possession deal over grinding out multiple first downs is what Stoops wants

The offense with the highest PPG is S. FL at 90. For ranked teams, highest is 76 for NC & TN. Then LSU at 73. Highest top ranked team is GA at 72. UK is 132 of 133 at 51.

Georgia’s number of plays is higher because they are 20th in the country in terms of time of possession. Georgia plays at a similar pace to UK.

If you look at the Georgia game versus South Carolina as an example, Georgia ran 79 offensive plays; but that’s because of time of possession. Georgia averaged about 28 seconds per play, which is similar to our pace.
