Where's Elam?

Others have done a good job of explaining Elam's responsibilities. Depending on Elam for your pass rush is like depending on Marcus Lee to shoot your 3s. Understand now?

I think Matt rolled his ankle in the game.

This is about the only accurate quote in this entire thread. You've got a bunch of posters on this thread screaming that Elam isn't playing well and he can't get on the field because he can't beat out anyone. Nothing could be further than the truth.

I saw Elam limping off the field after one play. I think he got hurt. Elam is doing just fine as a Sophomore and like others say he eats up O-Lineman which is his job in the middle.

Some of you are clueless. The guy got hurt and you're screaming that he isn't playing because he's so bad.

Also, and this is true across the board with players that haven't seen the field much, football is very different from basketball in that even really good players usually don't "break out" until their third year.

I've seen plenty of posts about Jared Tucker, Firios, etc being busts. I've also seen people complain about holes at certain positions or about how saying we are still young is an excuse since Stoops has been here three years. His first full class of kids are either RS Freshmen or Sophomores; that is still VERY young. /rant

What everyone has to realize is that Melvin Lewis is 1 of the better defensive linemen in the SEC right now. Elam is a high upside kind of player, but Lewis is way better now. If you watch both of them closely, this is indisputable. But Lewis is a senior, and Elam has to be THE MAN in 2016. Chances are that Elam and Kobe Smith will be our 2 nose tackles next year.
