Where We Stand...

The good news is that UK is only 2 games back of second place in the conference with what is arguably the most favorable remaining path. If you finish in second in the SEC, you will get a host slot.

The bad news is that this scrum that is the SEC may cost the SEC a host site slot or two. The pac 12 is picking up steam (now have three solid options with Stanford, OSU, and UCLA), the Big 12 has a few contenders (Tx Tech, and MAYBE Ok state or Oklahoma), the big 10 has a few options (Indiana, Michigan, though Michigan has low RPI and Indiana lost a series last weekend), the ACC now has more teams than it did a few weeks ago (UNC is on fire, Clemson swept wake, FSU now starting to regain its footing).

So, I thought the SEC was a virtual lock for 6 host sites and now may only get 4-5. UK really needs a sweep in the next few weeks. Also, the series in Knoxville is now looking TOUGH as UT has swept bama there, won series from A&M, gave UF all they wanted (took one of three, but really should have won two of three were it not a miracle UF rally in the 9th). This UK team would do well to win 2 of 3 there.

Hes hitting .149 and has 7 hits in 15 games with 9 walks and 14 strikeouts.
On Coach's show, Mingione was asked about Collett, he answered that he had a bad hip and wouldn't be available this week. The news was bitter sweet because it confirmed that Collett was injured but his availability this weekend is in doubt.

Thanks for the info, now the speculating can stop.

Say what/when his availibity will be along with Thompson?

Which is my point exactly. No matter how popular UK baseball may become, it will only be half as popular as it is at the baseball schools.

So what? What's the point of this? The average temperature in Lexington in February when the season starts is 10-20 degrees colder than in Miss. and Lousiana. We're naturally not going to draw as much interest because of that. Still, we were ranked 27th in attendance a year ago. So, that's certainly nothing to scoff at, and it should only improve with new facilities to draw more fans.

It could also be that Collett himself doesn't want the injury disclosed because it might make him appear more injury prone and harm his draft stock. Whatever it is, we don't need to spread silly rumors about coaches having vendettas against players.
Just my opinion...watching him play I still don't think he is over his previous injury yet. Any opinion?

I wouldn't think so. He isn't the most mobile of guys to begin with, but we also don't know how long this hip injury has effected him. Could be that he's kind of played with it lingering a bit and that has kind of just played through it until recently. The concern for him will be how much it effects his ability to take batting practice. Unfortunately, I didn't get there early enough to see whether he took batting practice. All I saw was that an hour or so before the game the team was warming up and stretching along the first base line and I did not notice him warming up. The wife and I looked for number 5 but didn't see him. Some of the guys had on warm ups and he could have had one on, but I didn't think that any of those wearing warm ups were him. Later I did notice that he was there and he was fully dressed out and he shook hands with Florida after the game. So, I am not really sure how bad the injury has been for him, but hopefully he is able to take some BP and work on improving his discipline.

Baseball America has UK in Bloomington but right on the cusp of hosting as the highest 2 seed.

I would love to have Indiana in our bracket. They only have 8 losses, but they are 4-4 against RPI two 50 teams and have a strength of schedule of 126. They have beaten South Alabama, Coastal Carolina, Iowa, and Ohio State. To be fair to them, most of those were road games, but they have still played a pretty terrible schedule and there really isn't a ton of proof that they are a team worthy of hosting. They will be a 1 or a 2 seed and I wouldn't mind one bit seeing them paired with us.

The main reason for my opinion was that some here were projecting him to be an everyday player at firstbase, but that hasn't happened and he routinely has been taken from the games for a pinch runner late in games he has gotten on base...wish the best for him.

After watching many Fall scrimmages, I said TJ would not see the field other than DH. And I don't think he will next year either. Keep an eye on Dalton Reed, a JUCO commit from Seminole State. 6'4" 235 lb lefthander leads JUCO with 26 HRs. He's hitting .356 with a 1.227 OPS. Hopefully he'll survive the draft and make it to campus.

I still like having a healthy TJ Collett in the lineup though. He needs more at bats to work on hitting offspeed pitches and overall plate discipline.

Agreed. I think it would be ideal to have Lexington as a host site with IU as our 2 seed. I'd take that draw all day long.

Wasn't IU the 2nd seed in Lexington last year, maybe the 3 seed. Ahywho, I would think Ohio State would be placed in the Lex. region this time. Not to repeat teams back to back years.

Will be interesting to see what they do. Neither Indiana or Ohio State currently has the resume to host, but the committee seems to like to spread out the host sites some. There really aren't a lot of northern schools that have amazing resumes. UConn and Northeastern have the best chances but even their resumes aren't overly impressive.

UConn would be interesting as a host. They are building a new stadium and have played just 6 home games. I believe they are playing conference home games in Dunkin Donuts Park, home of Double A Hartford Yard Goats. The Yard Goats will be at home against Altoona the weekend of the regionals, so they couldn't host there. However, there are two other minor league stadiums that they might use.

D1Baseball.com has in their most recent projections - the Lexington regional as UK being a 12 national seed with Indiana, Louisville and St. Louis being the other 3 teams in that order in our regional. Since the super regional matchups have changed now so that it is 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc., we would be matched up against #5 national seed Oregon State in Corvallis. Of course, that will surely change, but it is an educated guess.

In the SEC it's 1- Florida, 6 - Arkansas, 8 - Ole Miss, 12 - UK, & 14 - Georgia with Missouri, Auburn, Mississippi State, LSU & Vandy getting in but not hosting.

Does anybody have a good idea why brown is the color of shit(is the new blue),continues to post on here? Based on his post,he’d be better served if went to the U-6 site, since that seems to be his definite perspective. He brings nothing but negativity to any thread, based on primarily misinformed so-called facts,of his own making! Some idiots don’t know when to stop. As the old saying goes,if someone thinks your stupid, better to keep your mouth or post shut, then confirm their suspicions.

One look at his moniker told me all I needed to know!

Holy crap that's a murderous region. No way UofL is a 3 seed.

UL has only one good series win and it's against UNC when UNC sucked. Otherwise, they have lost every series of consequence. Their OOC sucks, except for a handful of mid-week games against Tex T

IU was the 3 seed last year, NC State was the 2 seed.
