Wheeler vs Other Cal Guards

Football players hitting 4.3s at 240 pounds is ridiculous and not apples to apples. Getting that much weight to go that fast is the epitome of athletic specimens.
Lots of really, REALLY fast sub 240 lbs guys in the NFL. Come on man. I’m talking WRs and RBs here. Slot guys. The fastest of the fast, like I said. I’m not talking linebackers here.

I agree completely with the OPs tiers. And I would guess Wheeler tier 3 also.

None of the guys on that list are anywhere near 240 lbs. Instead, they’re all lightweights by NFL standards. In fact, I don’t think there has ever been a 240 pounder who’s run under 4.3 in history, so I don’t know what this comment is based on.

Numbers weren't cross referenced my bad. But I also pointed out I probably got helped, another was a favorite and the last actually probably ran that which is why he stopped basketball and just ran track. None of us came close to passing 180 at all. I was closest and way under it.

I was probably a 4.7something. I didn't clarify originally that the trip would've helped so I see why people would think I implied I could've done better when I meant the opposite.

But dude was ridiculously lean and way better at track than at basketball. I suspect Wheeler is 4.4 range but I'm not calling him a liar. That's all.

Teague was up and down for a lot of his freshman season (as many freshmen are), but he came up huge in the NCAA Tournament. I was at the UK-Iowa State game in Louisville and he was the best player on the court that day. Not to mention he came up huge in the NCAA championship game, played under control and made some huge shots in critical moments. That's a thing that you just can't see coming but gotta give credit where it's due after it happens. Teague was a big part of that championship team.

Yep, I remember Kansas making a little run at the end of the championship game and Teague hit a HUGE jumper to stop the bleeding and right the ship. Teague is tier 2, at worst.

I know a lot of people want to move Knight and Fox to tier one. I put them just behind, however, because Wall and Ulis were consensus first team All-Americans. Knight and Fox, while good, def didn’t garner the same national praise.

I’m absolutely loving what Wheeler has been doing so far. Kid is a stud. Such a great distributor and has been a remarkably good shooter. We have had such inconsistent PG play the last few years and it is refreshing to have someone at this caliber again.

I made a quick tier of Cal PG’s. I know it’s early, but what tier do you think Wheeler finishes on? I’d place him beside Harrison on that third tier. Extremely consistent/reliable but maybe not the super-star that can completely take over a game.

Tier 1
Wall, Ulis

Tier 2
Knight, Fox, Gilgeous-Alexander

Tier 3
Harrison

Tier 4
Teague

Tier 6
Hagans

Tier 7
Harrow, Askew

Note: Not including Bledsoe, Briscoe, Murray, Quickley, Mintz because they usually played off-ball
Fox was elite

I’d say all of them are in the top 3 tiers except Harrow and Askew. Wheeler is off to a great start he can be right there if he remains consistent. His vision is already a tier 1 in my view. Hard to see that part of his game getting worse unless he goes blind.

Of all of them SGA was my favorite. There were times he carried that team. If he had more talent around him I believe more people would talk about him as tier 1.
Yes PJ was there but he was good not great as a freshman
Same for Knox (should have came back for 2 more years)
Hami was absolutely terrible at times

I really don't care how people want to rate Wheeler. He is currently our point guard and is getting better each game. All I care about is winning and I will leave the rest to all the pundits.

Tier1:
Wall, Ulis, Wheeler

Tier2:
Fox,Knight

Tier 3:
SGA, Harrison, Teague

Tier 4:
Hagans

Tier 5:
Askew

Tier 6:
Harrow

Right now, Wheeler is on an All-American pace. If he keeps this up, he's tier 1. I think there's a very reasonable argument for Fox to be Tier 1. I won't tell you that's wrong. But if Wheeler finishes tier 1, that's 4 guys in tier 1. I think the easy/lazy approach is to say tier 1 is 1st team All-Americans.

Tier 2 is star guys, not 1st team AA

Tier 3 is really good, not the best player on the team.

Tier 4 is solid, good at times, frustrating at times

Tier 5 and 6 didn't work out--I separate them because Harrow was reportedly bringing the entire group down.
