That's the way I remember itNot Perry but there was a picture of Stamper and Van Bredakoff on the front page.

Was that the year that Vandy had Fosnes, Feher and Ford, the F Troop? That's the way I remember it
Off the top of my head I think they came after Perry Wallace.......at my age you have forced me to think way too early.....not enough coffee yet.......now I've got a headacheWas that the year that Vandy had Fosnes, Feher and Ford, the F Troop?
I believe this cost us that game
Vandy had a great team in 1973-74 but flamed out in the NCAA, losing to Marquette in the Mideast Regionals. Maybe a BC powder would help this morning, lol.Off the top of my head I think they came after Perry Wallace.......at my age you have forced me to think way too early.....not enough coffee yet.......now I've got a headache
After further review(check computer) Wallace came to Vandy in '66 the F troop in 72.
Sure wasn't the same after that incident.I believe this cost us that game
Odd I can't remember that fight. Of course, I can remember the '92 Tournament run well. I have a vague memory that Sean Woods got tossed from his senior night game for throwing a punch at a Tennessee player, but I don't think the punch connected.
My dad told a story of Allen Feldhaus running a UT player completely off the floor one time. He was Rupp’s enforcer. Does anyone remember the details of this?
Didn't Charles Hurt and Barkley have a ruckus?
Not Perry but there was a picture of Stamper and Van Bredakoff on the front page.
Gimel Martinez abused Robert Horry.
272 lbs. that was a lot to look at on the tape delays back then. This was early in the game where Barkley was ejected by Paul Galvan for a flagrant foul. The date was 12-FEB-1983.
Winston Bennett got into a couple of fights
When Loserville's James Brewer flipped Sean Woods over his shoulder.
For you old timers like me, I remember a near-fight between Charles Hurt and Sean Tuohy of Ole Miss. Maybe 1980'ish? Somehow Tuohy got knocked down or fell down or something, and Hurt, being the gentleman that he was, tried to pick him up and set him back on his feet. Tuohy took exception and took a few wild but harmless swings. Fortunately for Tuohy, Hurt kinda backed off and put his arms out wide like, WTF? He would've kicked Tuohy's **** in if he got angry.
I looked up the recap of the 3-15-73 game and found no mention of the "fight" either, but I sat there and saw it happen and heard Cawood call it.I will try to look a bit more to see if I find anything. The Box score shows Stamper played 13 minutes and had 0 personal fouls(I don't think T's were counted as personal fouls in those days.Yes, the game where Stamper was ejected for hitting Van Breda Kolff was 24-JAN-1972. Here's some background on that (but not much):
FYI, I searched by did not find any mention of a fight during the Austin Peay game (15-MAR-1973) between Stamper and Percy Howard or anyone else.
And as mentioned Stamper and Vanderbilt's Perry Wallace obviously never fought in a UK game because they never played each other in a UK game.
Neither did I find any mention of a fight betwen Marquette's Bob Lackey and Stamper. The closest I could find was the following account of Marquette's Larry McNeill taking a swing at Stamper. This was in the NCAA tournament on 16-MAR-1972.
Robert Horry had an issue with Martinez and let him get into his head which caused him to pick up a number of technicals in multiple game, but the noteworthy fight was between Horry and Reggie Hanson.
Noteworthy for you. But memorable for me was Gimel taking no crap from Horry.
Didn't Charles Hurt and Barkley have a ruckus?
Not too many games on TV, had to listen to cawood describe it on the radioThe Stamper KO of Vandy's player was before my time. I've read a few stories on here about Stamper. Someone posted a hilarious story about listening to Cawood give the play by play of Stamper getting in a fight. Wish I could have seen Stamper play. He sounds like an old school enforcer.
The historians always said Harry Lancaster was a tough SOBThat's some good stuff Jon. Loved reading the article.
The technical they "mistakenly" laid on Walter sent him to the bench, if memory serves, when he was playing well and presenting matchup problems for the heels. Turning point in the game...The biggest fight I can remember in UK Basketball History is when Riddick choked Rasheed Wallace from UNCheats in the '95 Tournament. Riddick was responding to a brutal elbow to the jaw thrown by Wallace. I don't think anyone on either team left the bench and the fight got broken up quickly, but the refs somehow mistook Walter McCarty for Riddick and gave Walter the technical. It was an odd start to a disappointing game, but I think it lit the fire that helped propel us to the '96 title. Are there any bigger brawls in UK Basketball History that I can't remember?
Very skeptical that honest officials could go to the monitor and come away assessing #40 w/ the T.
Yeah, but Shaq's dad was a former marine, and he outweighed Mash by @ 50 lbs, so it probably was a wash?It didn't come to blows but would have loved to have seen the 2 fight it out but does anyone remember when Mashburn stood up to Shaq? Wasnt Mashburns dad a former Boxer?
Reminds me of an old Flip Wilson joke about fighting midgets:I remember Richie Farmer laying out Shaq back in the early 90s.
Giving birth to the greatest NCAA chant/cheer, ever across all sports: "The Fly's open! Let's go Peay!"Larry Stamper knocked Perry Wallace cold with one punch, I was watching the game. It was not in the tournament, it was in the regular season. Stamper got into a fight with Bob Lackey who was marquette's best player and got him kicked out of the game. That was in the 1972 ncaa tournament. I was watching that game too. That was the same game when All McGuire tried to get into it with coach Rupp, and Stamper stepped in the middle of that too. Larry Stamper was a bad man, wasn't a very good player, but he was a bad man. That Austin Peay game was the next year 1973, When Austin Peay had Fly Williams.
Like calling off your pitt bull..."Easy boy; down now"
I always love this picture of Joe B holding Nance back.
Love reading about Feldhaus coming off the bench and chasing Elliott to Tenn's bench, trying to retaliate for NashThis one was related to a fight between Cotton Nash and UT's Sid Elliott on 15-JAN-1962. Below are some excerpts about it.
