Way too early coaches on the hot seat rankings. Tubby Smith leads the list

Stupidity of some of the not so great members of the fanbase who hurled insults and death threats to he and his family. If UK ever gets a new basketball arena, it needs to be named the Orlando Tubby Smith Center complete with a statue of him in front of it. I also think a lifetime contract for Tubby is in order and a standing offer for Saul and G.G. to come be assistant coaches with the understanding they'd be first in line whenever Calipari leaves.
LMAO...Good one

Tubby took over a team coming from back to back title appearances. BCG took over a team that was garbage. Both failed, but if all players were exactly equal, BCG beats Tubby. Just look at their records post-UK.....BCG has actually done something. Tubby has been chased off from everywhere humanly possible, and the only reason High Point hasn't fired him is due to Tubby's substantial donations to the university. Tubby's hire at UK was the best thing to ever happen to him. UNC and Duke wouldve fired him much sooner.
Tubby wasnt fired by Texas Tech. BCG was.

BCG went to Ranger College and has been winning while Tubs continues to fail at High Point.

Ranger > High Point Tubs only has a 39% winning percentage...ugh.

But the real question is, after Tubby has another disastrous losing record this year, will the depression at High Point force the AD to make him step down?

He also had a season vacated thanks to using ineligible players. Ranger took him back after that where he did have success, I'll give him that.

We will see what you have to say when the Panthers are playing in a postseason tournament come 2022, my friend.

Have you figured out your excuse when Tubby goes sub-.500 again?

I choose not to doubt Tubby Smith. The fire in the belly is there and we will just have to sit back and watch the season unfold, my friend.
Fire in his belly LOL..
Dudes worthless. I think id rather have Jared from Subway coach my team.

Cal does deserve props for taking a unpopular stand in standing behind his team with their right to take a knee before the Florida game. Showed a lot of character and integrity, it was like Tubby was still here. Respect given.
That is exactly the point at which I quit watching the team. I see your agenda now. Disrespecting the flag of the USA to make your point is a good way to lose the argument. Go find a nation that is better or was more free. We are now losing our freedoms, one by one. And those that wanted to tear down this country are succeeding. If they take a knee again this year, I won't be watching again. There are many positive ways to support a cause so you don't have to choose to destroy a country to do so.

Cause he's #1 on the hot seat due to the horrible job he's done, didnt you read the title?
So you've never chimed in on any other thread where his name was featured with your schtick? I would guarantee if he leads High Point to a NCAA Tournament you would have a negative post to make about it.

Funny post. I thought one of the great things about a free country was having the freedom to stand up for what you believe in and speak freely. When everyone becomes scared to do that then their is no more freedom in the nation. It's amusing how many refuse to understand that.

Speak up about things that bother you, but don't spit on others while doing it. You think it was fair for BLM to burn down working peoples businesses that had absolutely nothing to do with the situation?

Who was the kid last year that said we needed to change the name of the arena because Rupp was a racist? Then was quoted in the SAME article that he hadn't done his homework and couldn't give facts why. It was just what he was told to believe.

dude...put down the crack pipe.
The only people that I'd accuse of smoking crack are those who fail to appreciate Tubby Smith and those who start negative threads about him or take a positive thread and try to turn it into a negative one.

I didnt see any UK player spit on the flag or a veteran. I dont agree with the looting and burning down of businesses, just like I dont agree with the fact rap lyrics often get a pass despite their lyrics and feeds into the stereotype of blacks that sometimes, cause some to be unfairly judged by those in power. Much like a lot of people think every Kentuckian is some barefoot, uneducated, rebel flag waving inbred.

You made some fair points, my friend.

My arguments on Tubby have already been posted and I'm not repeating them.

But to assert he still has fire in the belly is ludicrous.

We just have to agree to disagree on Tubby, my friend. If he didnt have the fire in the belly, he would have retired instead of coaching his alma mater in the Big South conference. One thing I will agree with you is the greatness of Larry Bird and the Celtics under Red Auerbach. I enjoy a lot of your posts and your basketball insights.

So the fact that he still coaches gives evidence that he has "fire in his belly"?

And by coaching, i mean, shows up and gets creamed every night by unheard of programs.

He could have retired years ago but still has the fire in his belly to coach and make a difference in the lives of many. You know, now that I think of it, I think Joe Craft should insist of a rename to the Tubby Smith center, or perhaps Rupp Arena could be renamed Rupp-Smith Arena in honor of arguably two of the biggest legends to ever grace Kentucky basketball.

You make kneeling sound heroic. It isn't in the least. You will get praise from all the progressives and leftist anarchists who actually want to tear the country apart. You'll be featured by the MSM and talk shows. You'll be "cool" in your disrespecting the country you live in. Sure, this is a free country and you can disrespect this country and all it stands for all you want until progressives decide that you are hating on them. Then it will be a crime punishable by the cancel culture. So what the heck is at all heroic about it? NOTHING. Who are the people being punished for saying what they believe? You know the answer but pretend that cancel culture doesn't exist. The Taliban and Ayatollah can tweet but the former President can't. You can't post something on Facebook that disagrees with the CDC even if it uses the CDC's own data or they can decide to cancel you. Those freedoms you pretended to care about are already being taken away AND you probably agree with it being taken away from those I spoke about so don't preach to me about freedoms.

I'll make you a deal. I wont preach to you if you wont get on here and preach your hate and outdated rhetoric. I get it, you are a right wing conservative, perpetually annoyed and dismayed with life. Life is too short to be so angry, my friend. Be happy and In the words of Neil Young "Eat a peach."

The guy lecturing on cancel culture is done with the team if they kneel. Thanks for the laugh.

You are out to lunch.

The veiled racism on this thread is incredible. Anytime someone posts about him, the same hilljack hyenas leap on it like raw meat.

Cal could go 9-16 until he retires and people would still talk about how much Tubby sucks
But you calling people hill jacks isn’t racist why? Because it’s against white people ? GTFOH with that racist nonsense. He quit and would have been fired for not doing anything with his great teams and underachieving the last 5 years he was here. Very solid coach, not elite.

I'm not cancelling them. You can watch if you want to. The left are cancel culture champions. And you know it. I disagree that there is anything brave about disrespecting the USA. Even our President and Vice President do it constantly.

It's the same thing. You and all the other "patriots" who boycott the NFL, the NBA, and now UK.

Tubby tarnished his reputation long ago well before High Point. He used to have the team practice with the goals removed and cleared out, I mean come on. Just running sets without a basket and playing defense. Well the game was changing then and it continues to change now. The ball line defense would have been great in the 80s I think, just wasn't meant to be and he never adapted

If you think referring to people as hill jacks is racist—I’m not sure I can help you.

I do my best not to get involved in these threads. It never goes well.

But I have questions.
I'm not gonna entertain any jackasses, so if your only answers are you just being a dick then I've got no time for you.

What is with the negativity for Tubby? Dude won a championship, put together and coached some of the most beloved teams in UK's rich history, and was/is nothing but class. He never did anything to embarrass the University or the state. What's up with people having this hate for the man? I honestly don't understand it.

Negativity with Tubby starts with recruiting. Tubby had some real nice classes but, imho, he relied too much on his X's and O's and didn't take advantage of the "UK brand". For example....In 2003, we had 4 open scholarships and Tubby brought in #72, #112, #113, #317. Then there are the reports Durant would have gone to UK but we never offered....Brendan Wright was ready to commit on his UK visit but Tubby told him to take all his visits, etc.

Also, several NCAA tournament games (UConn, Maryland) where TV talking heads complimented Tubby's coaching but noted UK just doesn't have the talent of these top schools....

I don't think Pitino would have won with the 1998 team he put together, Tubby did a great job that year, (except for losing to a terrible UofL team at home), but he still won with another man's players. Tubby never went to a FF with guys he recruited. 9 years, no FF's with guys he recruited.

I think the Morris fax thing was shady...but if not, it was certainly sloppy, or lack of paying attention to the program. I think it is kind of shady Tubby was working with an agency to leave UK during the post season (tournament play) of his last year.

When Pitino went to U of L I really think Tubby failed to rise to the occasion. He let Pitino roll him and take players (Stone). Even though I am no longer a Calipari fan (I quit when we started losing players OAD who were not getting drafted or late second round...that's a B.S. way to run a program)...I will always appreciate the way Cal embarrassed Pitino routinely all the while acting like the game meant little to him. Gold, pure Gold.

Regards

I think many feel Tubby was given the keys to a new Ferrari and when he left turned in a Camry. Expectations are just higher at UK. He did give the appearance of coasting.

Well, it took me 5 paragraphs to say what you summed up in 2 sentences. Nice efficiency!

Fair enough you didn't like his recruiting, but he hardly let Pitino roll him. Wasn't he 4-2 against Louisville under Rick?

Also... He's been gone for over a decade. I like a good grudge, but over recruiting?

Pretty sure I said more than that....I addressed recruiting, post season performance (I didn't cover the whole "10 loss Tubby" stuff - regular season), rivalries, Tubby's management of the program, and commented on the belief Tubby was 100% above board all the time, etc...

I don't personally dislike Tubby or hold a grudge....you asked the question and I responded with the most common complaints.....but you are right, he only lost to rick twice....living in louisville it sure felt like we were being rolled.
