Duke is good. They have a very nice starting 5 and bench guys who project to be the kind of role players you need on a great team. Flagg, Knueppel, and Maluach are a Freshman big 3 that already look really good playing together. Flagg is unselfish getting it into Maluach, and Knueppel is a Tyler Herro like dude who you can run screens for. Then they have their returners Foster and Procter who are very solid college players. They can be really effective and efficient picking their spots around the focus on the Freshman big 3, and Duke will be at their best if that’s how they continue to play.
Arizona State sucks. Idk what this Final score is gonna be as I’m still early 2nd half but I’m guessing Duke clears the benches under 4 and wins by 20+. Nobody can shoot for Az St. so Duke just makes them take tough contested floaters. St drew some fouls that way, but it all worked in Duke’s favor as they rebounded short misses easily. Had no idea that’s where Jayden Quaintance ended up. His age definitely shows, he’s very athletic, very raw, very clueless on defense. Easy to see why Cal was on him. Had some very nice first half highlights but was such a net negative for them, always a step out of position on defense and either too fast or too slow to jump. A much bouncier and more energetic Aaron Bradshaw, but the same directionless, undisciplined defensive traits.
Not as much to take from this as I hoped, Arizona State plays nothing like Kentucky. Bottom line, it’s easy to see, if UK’s threes fall I like their chances. If the Cats shoot decent from 3 (34%-37%) and only Butler, Oweh, and Williams show up to defend, Cats will lose by 10. Shoot 40% from 3, run them ragged, give defensive effort every possession, Kentucky wins by 7 and becomes the most talked about team nationally.
