Watch today's game vs Liberty...

Maley coming in to pitch with 2 outs and runners at 2nd and 3rd. Was that Belanger who came to the mound? Didn't really look like him, but I could just be crazy.

Heck of a catch by the Liberty centerfielder against Becker. Robbed Becker of at least a double on that one. 5 more feet and it was a home run for Beck.

Great play by Liberty's centerfielder up against the wall. Some bad luck for Luke Becker. Becker and Cottam have just missed home runs today.

Very good. Liberty has a great stadium.

Yea, looks great. The broadcast is outstanding in that they are interviewing coaches, putting up graphics of UK's new stadium, and showing numerous camera angles. Not to mention that just showing a better angle for the duration of the game to begin with.

Heady is having a pretty darn good year at the plate. Not outstanding, but much better than he's hit in the past. Got to like that he is giving us something at the bottom. Now hitting .286

Trouble brewing in the 6th. Leadoff double for Liberty and then a wild pitch moved him to 3rd. Cleary walked the batter. Bullpen has been bad for UK today.

Cleary walks another hitter. Runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Not looking good right here. Liberty could have a big inning. Would trade that run for a double play though.

Flames try a squeeze and Cleary makes the play to get the runner at the plate!!!

A little shade of Henderson right here with a mid-count pitching change. Kind of a strange interaction with Mingione coming out to make the change rather than Belanger.

Gabriel seemed to be convinced that the home plate umpire never called it a strike.

UK can't catch a break. Marshall hit a liner down the 3B line and the 3B made a great diving play. Would've tied the game and put Marshall in scoring position.

Well another loss is not good for UK. Very poor start in 4 close games.

Mingione's choice of Malley proved to be another blunder by the rookie coach. Malley had a 8 eRa at Hward College las6t year and has failed twice in both refief appearances this year. Oh this is going to be a crappy season.

Really? Maley's Era was that high in JUCO?

Some positives:
- Thompson was pretty solid in his debut. 8 Ks in 4.2 innings. Given the loss, but I don't think W-L records for pitchers are the best indicators of performance. He threw a lot of pitches but he showed weekend stuff. Still don't think he'll make the rotation this year unless someone really struggles, but this will be a great growth year for him in the midweek. Ran it up to 94 MPH a few times and showed a good breaking ball.

-Everyone in the lineup had a hit besides Luke Becker. However, only Carson had a multi-hit game. Reks and Pompey were a combined 2-10. This lineup needs Evan White back in it.

-Brad Schaenzer retired everyone he faced in 2.1 innings. Four of those were strikeouts (he came in with a 1-2 count on his first K). He looked pretty good when I saw him scrimmage a few weeks ago. Think he'll be a big piece of this pen going forward.

Negatives:
- Alec Maley, and to some extent Colton Cleary, struggled. Maley allowed a walk and a hit against the two batters he faced. He's not looked all that good in either of his appearances so far. I know the staff likes him though so I'd expect him to get more opportunities. Cleary allowed two hits and walked a batter, but he made a good play on a bunt to cut a run down at the plate. Definitely wasn't a bad performance, but I wouldn't say it was a good one either.

- Still not getting the timely hit late in games. Tyler Marshall was robbed on a great play by Liberty's 3B. It would've tied the game. That's baseball.

- 0-4 start to the season isn't ideal. Three straight losses by one run tells you they're close to breaking through, but UK could really use three wins this weekend.

It would be nice to win 3 in Norfolk this weekend, the get a couple of mid-week victories at home next week vs EKU and WKU. That would put us at 5-4 with a very good UCSB team, rolling in the 1st weekend in March.

During the broadcast the announcers said that E White took BP, and looked very good swinging the bat. I missed the last inning, did he pinch hit ?

Well with White Becker wouldn't have played today and Marshall would likely be at third. Mahan might see better pitches because opposing teams won't want to face White behind him. Those changes are pretty huge.

Cats are going to struggle this year - but being without White is just a major hit that this team can't quite overcome with the lack of talent. Comebak is right on, it changes the whole game...positions shifted, pitching strategy for opposition on how to attack the lineup, and +1 depth wise.

White is worth a run in at least 1 of the 3 games...maybe 2
