Mark Sears senior celebration

Happy Lets Go GIF by Big Brother

I’m pretty sure Alabama does their ceremony post-game instead of pre-game like we do. That’s honestly a really strange choice because I can’t imagine either the fans or the players really felt like hanging around and celebrating after the game ended in a hard fought loss.

Yeah, Oats might learn from this.

I assume Nelson as well.

Good job Alabama.

Contrast that with what our guys got.
Wow, that is pathetic honestly, I’d show this to every recruit especially those who probably won’t be NBA pros who will have a larger college legacy. He played his ass off for them. Thanks for the only final 4 Mark! Shallow clap… silence.

Do a side by side with our Senior Day. Then show them 21,000 people jampacked for Pope’s speech and show the hundreds of people outside who couldn’t get in.

Precisely why Barney should have thrown the kitchen sink at nate oates. Dude wants the stage
Give up on your negative agenda. It’s become tiresome.

Oates stated right away he wasn’t going to be a candidate.

While many Kentucky fans seemed to be under the impression Oats wouldn’t turn down the opportunity of a lifetime, it simply wasn’t an option for he and his family.

Oats sat down with CBS Sports college basketball analyst Seth Davis for a feature on Bleacher Report and explained why he wasted zero time to remove himself from the UK coaching conversation.

He went into detail on how the move would’ve made a large impact on his family and that just wasn’t an ideal situation. Oats also discussed his relationship with Alabama’s boosters and fanbase after reaching the program’s first Final Four (in the same school year football head coach Nick Saban retired) in history.

There’s nothing negative about wanting the best. I don’t need some drawn out explanation. I think Barney took the path of least resistance. Our bb program has grown weak under his leadership. My agenda is getting back to the top to the think of it every year. Winning stinking tournament games. I’m sick of this worn out “you have an agenda” and win some games in March for a change. Then maybe you won’t hear it

Say what?

Pathetic compared to what Pope had.

I’ll accept it when his probationary period is up or he takes the team on an elite 8 run this year or next. Unproven resume, never won an NCAA tournament game. We re about winning not just blindly supporting questionable decisions. Pope has a lot he hasn’t proven. When elite programs start hiring coaches who probably aren’t in the top 10 in their profession it usually doesn’t end well. In this case Barney has stuck pope out there. I mean if he hasn’t gone to uk people would be questioning the decision even more. That’s all he has on his resume. I hope you prove me wrong mark.

It is pathetic. But a lot of these kids just don't care anymore. And I can't blame them. Most are getting 150-200k reasons not to anymore.

Still man, money is great. At their end of the day when you have all you need and your life is winding down he will think more about his legacy and seeing this… ugh.

What was Barnhart supposed to do to force someone to take the job?
When a job is actually open no usually means no especially when they give a long drawn out explanation as you call it.

No, he didn't....or he would be here. Billy Donovan didn't want it. Not last year, not 15, not 17, not 27 years ago or the numerous times his name has been floated. I know UK fans like to think we can have anyone we want to coach but that's not true. Oates is set at Alabama. He took a football school to a F4 and got a pay raise to set up his children's children. Coaching at Kentucky is another animal because of fans like you.

You have no patience, you want to win the title every year. You take no excuses and you bitch and moan behind this facade of fandom. You say "prove me wrong Mark" but you don't mean that. You want to be right. You want to be able to run here and sound the trumpet of being right over the University winning because you have some overinflated entitlement that UK should be number 1 in the country after a coach that had been here 15 years let the program slip down a notch and left the program with 0 returning players on the roster. You want Kentucky to be number 1 despite a first-year head coach having less than ample time to build a roster. You want Kentucky to be number 1 despite losing their starting backcourt in the middle of league play. The best conference in the country by the way. Your fandom is the problem. We all want results but most level-headed fans understand the process. You can't judge a coach by year one...good or bad results.

I want Pope to work here because I love the guy's energy and attitude. I don't know if it will work or won't work. Should know by this time through year 3. But continue to hate Kentucky basketball because it isn't number 1. There's plenty of you guys out there. Just watch the game thread on Saturday and join in with the fun of JFCats22 and friends.

Well stated!
Who wants that dour and sour whiner Oates on our sideline? Really? Spends the whole game crying to and working the officials. Ever seen the guy smile?
I sure couldn’t watch that season after season.

Glad we have a coach with personality. Doing great facing all the adversity you pointed out.

Also Pope is in a severe learning curve and has a high ceiling. UK bball is a huge entity and anyone taking the job needs time to get their arms around it. We’re in good caring hands. No more mercenaries with players and coaches.

Barney may have thrown a huge bag at Oats, we don't know or will ever know. One thing to think about is Bama can pay a coach as much as we can. Also the pressure at Bama is 1/10 that he would have here. I think going forward a successful coach in the SEC would be making more money than they could possibly ever need or want. The question is, why take on the stress of KY's delusional unrealistic expectations for little or no more money. If Bama or Auburn wants to keep their basketball coach they can raise as much money as any school in not just the SEC but any school in the country. Do you think any school could out bid UGA to get Kirby? Beard is the only SEC coach that I feel might move to KY only because he needs to rebuild his name.
