Are you speaking of the one where he was trying to raise four or FIVE HUNDRED MILLION dollars for improving facilities, but about 3/4 of it was going to basketball, which was already leading the nation in attendance?Originally posted by JHB4UK:
how many years & time/effort was wasted on the hallowed legendary "IMG Deal"? Everyone remembers that one, right? One big spectacular deal that would have (1)improved Commonwealth, (2)improved Rupp, (3)new baseball stadium.
THAT much money, when he couldn't replace the folding chairs in the joke of a "recruiting room", and the scheduled replacement of the video and sound system was delayed two years past their scheduled replacement date? And when he did finally get the money to improve football, which couldn't afford to do anything on its own, he did it by adding 50% on the bill for academic improvements, how could they afford 50% more than the cost when he could never even afford the folding chairs OR carpet for the "recruiting room" before? I know, the SEC contract, driven by FOOTBALL, but that contract had a $5,000,000 bonus for a couple of years before he did ANYTHING above the bare minimum for football.
Geez, any competent AD shouldn't have had to do anything to convince any President that we needed to get into the race for the EMERGING money sport, we led the SEC in integrating athletic teams, we were dead last in the football race for ten years, even Vandy passed us up for a while.
