Vikings fire Zimmer and GM

Add Nagy and Flores to the list. Flores seemed a little bit of surprise, with Tua only in his second year.

Jax needs Caldwell more than anyone else’s

caldwell is a QB coach and is not crazy like Urb

Trevor needs a steady hand headed into yr 2

Harbaugh to Chicago?

As a BEARS fan that's what I'm hoping. I think he's better fitted for the NFL. Ever who we hire it's going to be a process. Pace has left the cupboard extremely bare, and we practically have no draft picks for the next two years. With that said I have ZERO faith in ownership, they always do the bare minimum and pinch pennies.

Odd quarterback choices too. Same with the Vikings.

I think some teams, especially the ones with open stadiums up North, should build a stout defense, coupled with a good running game. At quarterback, they don't have to be AR or TB, just value the ball and hit the short and intermediate throws at a good clip. I think Harbaugh builds his teams that way and would be successful in Chicago.

Yeah, both Turdbiscuits and Fields were horrible picks and we gave up way too much to get them. I hated both picks when they happened and still do. At least the Vikings have a decent roster and are really just a good QB away from taking the next step. The Bears just have soooooo many holes to fill on their roster, it's going to take years to recover from Pace.

I feel your suffering OAK as I am a lifelong Lions fan out here in Iowa. But with my Lions I truly believe for the first time in a long time things are trending up for several reasons and next season will be clearly a step ahead of the Bears.

I agree with you on Harbaugh-- better equipped for the NFL. He'd be a very good hire for the Bears. No matter how it's sliced, Ohio State will always be the class of the B1G and class of the B1G East division. Harbaugh, by staying at Michigan, will play second fiddle to OSU more times than he won't.

At 58 years old now, if Harbaugh has any desires to get back to the NFL it needs to be now. Clock is ticking on him.

Pace totally screwed that franchise bad. As you say, depleted of many draft choices the next couple years but yet nothing to show for it. Bad ass GM-- even worse than Quinn was in Detroit.

The Lions definitely have some nice pieces moving forward. I really like that rookie WR you all have Amon-Ra (which is a pretty cool name). Goff has done better there than I thought he would have and that CB Oruwariye had a heck of a season.

I agree with you on Harbaugh, he's just better suited for the NFL. If he can replicate his success at SF with the Bears I would be extremely happy. But it's going to take a while to get this roster right. Unless ownership decides to go all-in after all the top free agents, this rebuild is going to take a lot longer than most fans want to wait.

Pace is quite possibly one of the worst, if not the worst GM in the history of the NFL. The guy has no clue how to draft. Seriously, the man gives away multiple first-round draft picks to move up 1...1 spot to draft Turdbiscuits. Then when we finally get draft picks again, what does he do? Trades them all away for Justin freakin Fields.

Just to show you how cheap ownership is, the coaching staff a few years ago wanted to bring in All-Time great Olin Kreutz to help with the OL and the Bears offered to pay him.....$15 dollars an hour! I kid you not. But I digress, I could rant all day on the Bears.

Who do you think the Lions are going to draft with the #2 pick?

I know teams have needs but I would have trouble looking past Jameson Williams and Derek Stingley Jr. Those two guys seems like they are going to be future stars. Jax is going to really get after the QB if the pick Hutchinson, similar to the Raiders attack.

Zimmer is a good coach and a good man. Would love to see him back in Cincinnati as DC if he's amenable. Who Dey!

Can't go wrong with Williams, Stingley Jr., or Hutchinson. I could also see Thibodeaux from Oregon as well. I could also see the Lions taking Pickett out of Pitt and letting him sit behind Goff for a year. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out. I have to wait till pick 39 to see how the Bears screw up on picking.

Yea Flores is a bit of a shock, the Fins had won 7 of their last 8 games, maybe the most improved team in the 2nd half of the season. Zimmer will be someone's DC next season.

Didn't see that one either, you would have thought the way they finished the season that it was worth one more season as head coach. I agree Zimmer will have somebodies D rocking next season.

I actually heard the Kreutz interview where he spoke of the $15 per hour independent contractor the Bears wanted him to be. Maybe one of the most embarrassing stories I have ever heard.

Yep, that GM was an absolute waste-- total destruction he brought. And it will take time to rebuild it all.

The Lions I do truly think this time they may have gotten it right with the front office cleansing done a year ago and I really like Dan Campbell- wears his emotions and heart on his sleeve.

I can't believe NFL teams still hire Belichick assistants as their head coach. None of them have worked out.

I know some are shocked at the Flores firing but look at this stat.

The average for an NFL coach is 3.2 years. How's that for job security.

They started playing some pretty good football late in the year. Most of the time you see it coming, like Joe Judge mucking it up in New York.

Did Mr. Health issue skew the numbers? 🤪

Honestly, if $15 an hour wasn't the minimum wage in Chicago they would have offered even less. The owners only see it as a cash cow and now they are planning on moving the team to Arlington Park which pisses us Bears fans off even more. They already screwed Soldier Field up and made it look like a UFO crash landed on it, now they are bailing and moving to the burbs.

I've heard some rumors that the NFL might expand again and Chicago could get a 2nd team. Which if they did I might look into them being my new team depending on ownership and a few other things.

Next season will be very telling I believe for the Lions you all can't have another 3 win season. You all should at least be competing for 2nd in the North next year. Do you think the Lions go with Pickett with their pick and sit him a year behind Goff?

I am beyond confident the Lions will not have another 3-win season. I truly believe they will be a wild card contender in 2022. They have brought in people like Chris Spielman into the front office and long time NFL guru John Dorsey and their GM Holmes is highly regarded.

The Lions played without Hockensen the last several games, Okudah all season at CB, Swift valuable time until returning at the end, Ragnow a great center, most all season, the DE the last half of the season..... yet they played better as the year went on. Campbell has stirred a fire within and the players love playing for him.

The McCaskey's are much like the Ford family in Detroit with the Lions.

No way will the Lions go with Pickett at #2 overall. He simply is just not worthy of being taken that high. They'll go with Goff again this next year and he actually looked much better later in the year. I think the guy that Campbell wants at the #2 pick is Hutchinson of Michigan-- though might depend if Thibadeau is not taken #1 by Jacksonville.

It is weird that the Lions are the only team in the NFC North that I don't hate, I guess it's probably because of all the years of being inept and growing up watching Barry Sanders work his magic. But it seems like you all finally have some pieces in place to build off of. It will be very interesting to see what you all do in the draft and free agency this off season.

I saw on a few mock drafts they had Pickett slotted in at #2 that's why I asked. I don't think he is worth a #2 pick, but you never know with the NFL they will draft a QB high when it's not warranted. Most other mocks have you all selecting either Hutchinson or Thibodeaux with the #2 pick. I don't think you all would go wrong with either.

I read this morning that they fired their OC Lynn, I wonder who he plans on targeting as his OC?

It would be a complete shock if Detroit goes Pickett at #2. He's simply not worthy of that high of a pick and nobody has suggested the hint of being that sure fire "franchise" type QB. I'd much rather go with Goff and fill a vital need on D with Thibodeaux or Hutchinson at #2.

Not sure on the target of the new OC. Lynn was just a bad match. Funny how some guys can become a HC in the NFL then takes them only one year to fail as a Coordinator before being fired.

I think this new regime in the front office knows what they are doing and the GM Holmes was the architect of strong LA Rams drafts in the past and was really good in last year's draft for the Lions.

The smartest move the Lions have made was bringing in Chris Spielman on payroll as basically the "watch dog" of all goings on. He's the heart of the Lion franchise and just a smart fundamental football guy. The Bears need to do the same type thing once they get their GM and HC positions situated. A former Bear that's passionate, like a Kreutz, who has a lot personally invested in the franchise through the years-- but pay him more than $15 per hour. :)

Agree. It's a rough gig if job security is a concern. Flores and Zimmer were not good moves imo. Both will likley be employed shortly.

I suspect they will take one of the D linemen at #2.

Hopefully, Jax will go O-line at #1.

I'm not convinced Lou is the answer to or problem as far as Bengals D. We obviously need to keep upgrading. Theyve certainly looked better. I just feel like Zim is a guy who's a difference maker as a coach. Zac looks good now because we have Joe and Jamarr. He looked terrible when it was Andy.

At the pro level there are a handful of true difference makers as far as coaching goes. Zimmer was that as a DC, that much I'm sure of.

Regardless this is all just speculation/me ranting. Lou isn't going anywhere nor should he.

I agree. The GMs who fire these guys really kill me. The coach can only do so much with what he has. It's one thing if the pieces are there and they're being used wrong but like what the hell is someone supposed to do with the Jaguars or Texans, you know?

Flores went 10-6 last year when that would normally be good enough to win a division but everyone else went 11-5 or better. Then this year goes above .500 but missed the playoffs. This team has only made the playoffs one time since 2008 so what was the expectation exactly? As for Zimmer, he's another guy I think is good and got to the playoffs three times including the NFC title game.

I agree on Zim and Lou. Zim made the Bengals D legit, but he also had some dudes.
Not sure Lou is the answer either.

But the good thing about the NFL and most pro leagues is once you do get fired someone else is always willing to rehire you. The NFL is full of retreads, so he will probably go somewhere and be a position coach for a season and then he will be bumped up to OC again rinse and repeat.

I do wish the Bears had something like that in place, we have nobody between McCaskey and the GM and he has stated multiple times that he doesn't know enough about football. Yet they are too cheap to hire someone who does know football to help with the hiring of a GM. I would gladly take Kreutz to be our "watchdog" you need someone who has a vested interest in the team. Spielman was a great choice for you guys, I could be wrong but weren't they talking about him at one point maybe becoming the GM there?
