Vikings fire Zimmer and GM

But the good thing about the NFL and most pro leagues is once you do get fired someone else is always willing to rehire you. The NFL is full of retreads, so he will probably go somewhere and be a position coach for a season and then he will be bumped up to OC again rinse and repeat.

I do wish the Bears had something like that in place, we have nobody between McCaskey and the GM and he has stated multiple times that he doesn't know enough about football. Yet they are too cheap to hire someone who does know football to help with the hiring of a GM. I would gladly take Kreutz to be our "watchdog" you need someone who has a vested interest in the team. Spielman was a great choice for you guys, I could be wrong but weren't they talking about him at one point maybe becoming the GM there?

Damn the Bears need help. Laugh or cry here I'm not sure

I think Speilman's name as the potential GM was more of a few media guys stirring the pot-- don't believe there was any substance really too that. He's in a great role now.

The Lions years ago you may recall took a good football guy in Matt Millen and put him in charge of all football operations and it ended in a total disaster-- maybe worse than Pace screwed up the Bears. Not saying Spielman would have been that all over again, but more of an oversight and advisory role is far better for Spielman. Holmes the GM now has worked in the guts of a football organization previously as has Dorsey obviously, and that's exactly what they've needed. Spielman a nice compliment.

This is how I feel anytime McCaskey opens his mouth and I realize he's the one making decisions for my team.

Wasn't Matt Millen a TV guy before getting the role of GM with the Lions? He went from like a pregame show to being the GM. But yeah, it seemed like every year he would draft a WR with your top pick. lol

If I were in McCaskey's position (meaning I got the job just for being born) I would have a group of former Bears players and a group of retired NFL execs and I would have them conduct the search for my GM. Then once they settle on a GM then let the guy make the decisions and you just write the checks.

And..... Now Joe Judge is gone. This one makes way more sense. Barkley was out and/or ineffective all year but they were awful.

I agree on Zim and Lou. Zim made the Bengals D legit, but he also had some dudes.
Not sure Lou is the answer either.
Definitely want us to focus on the OL in the draft. But beefing up the defense and making it extra filthy should be priority 1A for us. I want whatever poor bastard replaces Roethlisberger to be hating life when they join the division 😆

I laughed out loud to myself when I read your McCaskey comment of "meaning I got the job for being born" simply because it's so very true. I like to say he's the " decendent of the lucky sperm club". He's some dweeb who knows ZERO about football and he just needs to never talk or be behind a mic if he wants to keep even an ounce of dignity among the fan base.

So sad the McCaskey's have held the franchise hostage all these years-- again, much like the Ford family has done in Detroit. At least now in Detroit, Sheila Firestone Ford Hamp, who is the heir of TWO wealthy families, was handed the ownership control of the Lions 1 1/2 years ago by mother Martha and has been smart enough to bring in good football people to run the football business. And smart enough to get legend Barry Sanders much more involved as still a face of the franchise. She's become my new hero :)

As for Matt Millen, you are totally right. Despite being a football guy who played years in the NFL, he knew ZERO about running a football operation and made horrific choices-- though not all were as bad as many want to remember. And yes, he used a 1st round pick 3 years in a row on WRs-- Charles Rogers (Michigan State #2 overall), Roy Williams (Texas), and Mike Williams (USC #10 overall)--- and 4 years out of 5 by choosing Calvin Johnson #1 in 2007. Obviously Calvin Johnson was a HOF, and Roy WIlliams did not have a bad career at all. But the other 1st round picks in his time in Detroit were total bombs in Joey Harrington QB (3rd pick overall) , Ernie Sims LB (9th pick overall) ,RB Kevin Jones (30th pick overall), and OL Gosder Cherilus (17th pick) and there's your f----ing bust. Then throw in Head Coach hires in Marty Mornhingweg, Steve Mariucci (I really liked the hire at the time), Dick Jauron, and Rod Marinelli (Yes Oak, that's 4 HCs in 8 years on the job) and the dumpster fire with him became a long lasting inferno.

Am I making you feel a little better now about being a Bears fan? :)

If the Bengals draft any position other than OL in the first round the GM needs cinder blocks tied around his ankles and dropped in the Ohio.

He definitely is a member of the lucky sperm club, and every time he gets in front of a mic all Bears fans want to pull their collective hair out. Usually, you have a little bit of hope when the GM and head coach are fired, but out trots this idiot and you realize who's making the decision and you just want to cry.

I read the article you posted on her she seems very bright and like she "gets it." Her husband has some interesting degrees. lol It seems like you finally have some competence in charge now with her.

Wow, I had forgotten all about Joey Heisman! Millian did make a lot of head-scratching picks that is for sure. But at the time Joey Heisman was supposed to be a can't miss player. I remember all the analysts were in love with him. Other than Fields, Roquan Smith is the only first rounder Pace drafted that is still with the team. Smith only has 14 sacks in 4 seasons with the Bears, he was supposed to be a great edge pass rusher. Needless to say, we both have had some inept GMs in our lifetime.

Actually, you are making me feel better about the Lions situation. [laughing]

Here's the deal: The Bears need time to recover and build back up from the disaster of Pace and Nagy. We started this process a year ago after the Patricia/Quinn debacle, so maybe "temporarily" become a Lions fans for 2-3 years as I do think the upside is big. After that time, go back to being a Bears fan as by then they will hopefully be on a better path than they are now. :)

On another note, did I hear right they are hiring Ernie Accorsi to help with the transition and hiring of a new coach and GM? If so, WATCH OUT! Accorsi is who the Fords (not Sheila) hired a few years back in the same mode and he found them Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia. Seriously, DON'T LET THAT GUY IN THE FRONT DOOR of their searches.

@THE_OAK

And now this:

Chicago Bears: Adam Schefter shares that the team has requested permission to interview Patriots director of scouting Eliot Wolf for their GM job.

Do know where the Lions got the disaster GM known as Bob Quinn was from the Patriots and he was their director of scouting. This shit is looking like deju vu all over again with the Accorsi thing and now this interview.

Haha, I don't think I could become a Lions fan, but I do pull for you all against the Packer and Vikings. Other than a couple of seasons under Lovie Smith and Nagy's first season I've been waiting my entire life for the Bears to be good.

Yeah, I don't want that guy anywhere near the coach search, they have also been using washed up (among other things) Bill Polian to help with the GM/Coach search. 🤢

Sadly this is what ownerships do when they have zero idea about the game, and who the good people are in the game. I am not a Jerry Jones fan, but I have always respected the fact he wants to be close enough to at least know what's happening-- though he's overstretched his limits before on making some decisions he should not have.

In Detroit a year ago Sheila brought in Chris Spielman to lead this charge-- a rock solid football guy in the modern era-- not a washed up long ago guy like Accorsi or Polian. Bears need to form a committee of knowledgeable former Bears like Kruetz, Lance Briggs, and Alex Brown (these three are all passionate and do a post game Bears show on TV here) to make some interim decisions and direct the search.

McCaskey hasn't brought in any former Bears greats to help with the search, so I don't see it happening anytime soon. He acknowledges that he has no football IQ and yet refuses to bring in former players who have a vested interest in the organization to help make it better and steer it in the right direction. I wish he would go the route of bringing in someone like you all did with Spielman but that's never been his M.O. Honestly it seems from all accounts that McCaskey looks at players like they are beneath him, so I just can't see him seeking their opinions.

I'm getting to the point where I'm just hoping for blind stupid luck to happen into the right hires.

It won't be Kreutz on any advisory committee because good ol' George blasted him in that presser the other day for speaking out about the $15/hr job offer.

I think your assessment of McCaskey is spot on.

I hope they do, it makes next season's game with Ole Miss a lot easier. Plus he would probably bomb in the NFL again which is a win-win for us fans of different teams in the NFC North.
His staff is getting picked apart at Ole Miss. Wouldn't surprise if he jumped ship too.

Definitely not, he probably won't be welcome back in the facilities after that exchange.

Possible replacements for Zimmer. Long suffering Vikings fan here.

They need to hire Nagy as coach and Pace as GM. They've got time on their hands right now. They sure were a big help to the Vikings during the season. Might as well make it legitimate

Harbaugh to Chicago?

Oh fk no... I may have to bury my jerseys if he is named coach.

I shouldn't say that, because maybe he's sobered up and apologized to all of the women he went after in Chicago. Maybe he wouldn't fall back into old habits.

It does seem like something the franchise would do, though. Then I'll have to wait a few more years until the ownership bothers to read "Football for Dummies"

Yeah, both Turdbiscuits and Fields were horrible picks and we gave up way too much to get them. I hated both picks when they happened and still do. At least the Vikings have a decent roster and are really just a good QB away from taking the next step. The Bears just have soooooo many holes to fill on their roster, it's going to take years to recover from Pace.

It's almost like Pace was being paid by other organizations to do what he's done to the Bears. I'm not kidding either. If it wasn't for years of stupid sht by the front office going back before Grossman at QB, I'd put money on it

Nobody would have to pay the Bears to screw themselves up, they have been doing it for decades quite nicely. But yeah, his decisions have always been head scratchers.

For you @THE_OAK . A great listen and/or read for you (audio and text both provided) from a week ago about the Bears search. NFL guy Mike Florio was interviewed on WSCR Chicago and spoke of the Bears search process involving 79-year old Bill Polian. What Florio says about it all I totally agree with. I think you do too.

Harbaugh would be a solid hire by the Bears-- the guy proved he was a damn good NFL coach in SF not that many years ago. You making references to Harbaugh from 35 years ago when he was a player in Chicago? C'mon.

Personally though, in reading the tea leaves, seems as if Harbaugh is in the NFL next year it will be with the Raiders. Doesn't appear the Bears will be an option. If Bill Polian is largely making the selection of the Bears coach (which actually he is when it gets down to it), Polian won't be making Harbaugh a priority. Instead, he'll make all his old cronies the candidates.

I recommend listening to or reading what NFL guy Mike Florio says about the Bears search (I linked it about in a reply to THE _ OAK).

Florio hit the nail on the head, that is why I have no faith in this GM/Coach search. The only way it works out for the Bears is just if they luck into a good hire. Because the people they have making the decisions are idiots or completely out of the loop. I just wish they would sell the Bears, I know that's what everyone I know wants. But that will never happen, the Bears are their cash cows and they don't really care if they win or not, because their bank accounts are still getting filled with money.

Thanks, but no. Tired of listening to what anyone says about the Bears until they have an administration that knows what they are doing. It won't matter until then.

We are talking about the Harbaugh that was replaced by the 49ers before the season was over, but let him coach the last 2 games, right?

Harbaugh is a dk that doesn't respect women nor personal boundaries. Don't care how good of a coach he might be.

That being said, he should know better than to head into the dumpster fire that is Chicago Bears Politics. That sht show of an ownership has raked in money for almost 40 years and hasn't earned a dime of it with what they've done to and with that team.

Thousands of Bears fans have been saying the same for decades. Florio just has a pulpit

The Bears hired outside people so they wouldn't have to take direct responsibility for failing again. That's Chicago politics. Delegate and then leave the people hanging to which you delegate. Then the media makes them cannon fodder after they've already been left for dead.

The McCaskey's won't sell the Bears, it doesn't matter if every single person in Chicago showed up at their front door with torches and pitchforks they wouldn't sell. You would think as long as George McCaskey has been around the NFL he would have some connections and not have to go the consulting route.

McCaskey needs to hire someone to a position that is between him and the GM preferably a president of football operations. That way the GM has to answer to the president and the president can just keep McCaskey happy by telling him the Bears are making a ton of money and keep him out of the loop on any coaching or personnel decisions. Then allow that person to conduct the GM search, then allow the GM to conduct the Coach search. That way you have a chain of accountability. And if it was me I would also can all the college scouts on the team, because they are just awful at evaluating talent.

But none of that will happen we will end up with some lame-duck coach who washed up Bill Polian deems worthy.

Why do so many Ohio State quarterbacks put up insane numbers in college but never pan out in the league?
