Vandy Ahead in Birmingham

They flipped a roster in 1 year. 50 new players and they passed us.

This fluidity is across the board: TCU made the Championship game with tons of transfers, and both IU and Iowa State won double-digit games for the first time in over 120 years of football (for each) in the same season: 2024.

The lesson is clear: score Top 10/20 transfer classes and HS classes!!

We are Ohhhh, sooo close on the HS rankings, and look even better on transfers.

Honestly is a meaningless bowl game all we can ever hope for? With the new playoff system I would have no interest in watching Cats in a Music City Bowl. Last Bowl game I attended was Cats losing to Syracuse about 25 years ago.

I’ll take making a bowl game next season given we play the same schedule.

Ppl need to realize how brutal our schedule was.

Look at the bottom of the league that Texas got to play…or an SMU/Indiana type where they had 0-1 wins against teams that were .500

Then look at ours: 3 playoff teams—Texas, UGA, Tennessee….1st 3 out teams: Olemiss, SouthCarolina…..a top 25 Mizzou(9-3)….and then a post DJ Lagway led Florida that finished extremely strong to make a bowl, a bowl team in Vandy, and a bowl team in UL.

Bowls games while a mess have been extremely competitive and entertaining. There have been a few clunkers like Ark and Texas Tech.

Vandy has a good staff. You can tell in their play. Not great but you have to play good to beat them. GA Tech is weird they look great one week and blah the next.

Talent acquisition has never been a problem for this staff. Coaching them up is the issue.

Tough schedule, yes. But we didn't play Missouri this year.

Then check out the bowl results. So far, a 6-6 Vandy took down a 7-5 Georgia Tech. A 6-6 Hog team is dismantling an 8-4 Texas Tech in every phase of the game.
A&M is the only SEC bowl loss headscratcher. Oklahoma was down several top players and still should have beat Navy, but with their 10 starters or so, they win going away. USC was NOT good, A&M blowing the three score lead was most definitely a WTF thought for me.

Even with UK, they played a top 2 or 3 ACC team in their bowl games while they was a middling, below average finishing SEC team. It just goes to show even the bowl organizers know, a 6/7th place SEC team v/s a 2nd or 3rd ranked ACC team is a fairly "equal" game.

It was tough. If we had been in the west over the last several years it wouldn’t have seemed like it was a huge step up though. We played 6 teams, counting UL, that were ranked at one point or another through the season. The issue being we whiffed against our class of teams. It was similar to our days when the East was it. 2007 we played 7 teams that had been ranked at some point and 4 teams that finished in the top 13 in the final poll.

They definitely had a better season and they have some momentum with pavia returning. But let’s be honest, they just had a 7 win season. Prior to the past season our fanbase was no longer satisfied with 7 win seasons. We are still the better program and they will still get outdrawn in their own stadium by whatever allowing fanbase they are facing. But they are not gonna be an automatic W on the schedule for at least a little while. Just give them time, vandy will vandy again.

Let's not go overboard with zGT. ACC IS 1-9 in their bowl games. They played UGA close but they spent time preparing for us every week of the season and it was their super bown, aline with Key publicly stating how much he hates UGA.

Who were our class of teams? Sc won 9 games and probably deserved to be in the playoffs. We didn't play mizzou. Beat ole miss. Caught Auburn after they fixed their qb issue (which was their issue). Played uga and UT really tough. Played UL when everyone had a foot out the door.

If we argue vandy is our class, they beat bama and almost neat texas and others.

The sec is just insane. There are no more easy games. It takes an excellent team to win 8-9 games. A good team is only winning 4-6.

I go to every bowl, though I am glad we haven't gone to Shreveport because that might end my streak.

You’re not wrong here. They were better than us this year, which wasn’t a high bar to clear, but I feel like beating Alabama is causing some people to overrate their season a little bit. More successful than their recent baseline, yes, but still ultimately a 6-6 team that lost to a Georgia State squad that finished 1-7 in the Sun Belt. We wouldn’t be happy with that kind of season at this point.

Well, you answered your own question. They went to 2 Citrus Bowls. Beat some good teams over the last 8 bowl games. If winning 9 games didn't make you want to attend a bowl game, you're not their target audience

Hate to say it,but the attitude of some on the team this year seemed that they didn't think they had to earn it. Like they were already just better when they stepped on the field. 9 times out of 10 your ass will get handed to you with that attitude. Should've nipped that in the bud immediately and used the bench as a tool for it

Here is the truth, SEC office did UK no favors with the schedule. UK played 5 teams that won 9 or more regular season games, including 3 playoff teams. Who else in the conference plad 3 playoff teams? Sanky and his crowd took care ofa few schools, made sure they caught the weaker teams, while stacking a few teams with toughest schedule possible, namely UK, UF and UGA. Kirby called him out on it too. I guess he was afraid of Texas.

Is this suggesting we were a good team? We got throttled by unranked Louisville. Yeah the Sec is tough. We were not a good team.

Of course we were a good team. We went into ole miss and won. We took uga down to the wire. Even battered and bruised we pushed UT and Texas both on the road. That doesn't happen unless you have a good team. Put that squad in another conference besides the big 10 and we are challenging to win the conference.

By the time UL rolled into Lexington, guys already gave up, rolled over, and were ready to get the game and season done so they could transfer. Of course that game still counts, but it was not a representation of the caliber of squad we had. We just played insane competition and it wont be getting better any time soon.
