Vandergrift vandergriff, vandagrift…

I can tell you this with 100% certainty, Vandagriff was not expecting to compete for the starting role no matter where he went and a major reason he chose UK. AU, Carolina and FSU made were after him pretty hard and had been for awhile. Maybe he wasn't told he was UK's guy, but that was his impression.
Yeah, this is a fanciful story created by whomever for whatever reason. V's the QB, BA the backup. As for BA, I'm wondering if this was a post-college move? Does he want to get into coaching? Come to UK, serve time as a backup under Coen then a GA a couple of years at UK? Drake Jackson's GA time should be about up after this year, time for him to move on to a staff somewhere then BA become a GA for the offense. We'll see.

Technically they all compete for the starting job.
Beau would have to absolutely dominate him in spring and fall camp to get the job.
If that was the case then Vandagriff would fall into the Joey Gatewood category.

That sounds reasonable. BV has served his time as a backup, he wants to play. Hard to unseat a starter who had a good year like Beck, so fo somewhere that will need a QB. I don't see a downside for either, but expectations are off the charts, according to this site's posters.

As for being a GA, I think there have 2 years, not 100% in that though.

So are you saying a direct quote from BA is a made up story?????

Not at all, but I wasn't there and neither were you. I'm saying that anybody who thinks a healthy V will not be QB1 will be in for a disappointment. Whether V stays #1 is TBD.
I think this experience with Leary has made the coaching staff rethink putting all their eggs in one QB basket.

Especially a QB who has not proven that he can be QB1.

Won't let me copy the link. It is a Larry Vaught article from YourSportsEdge.com.

“Kentucky coach Mark Stoops has told Allen he will have a chance in spring practice to compete for the starting job even though UK has also a commitment from Georgia transfer Brock Vandagriff.”

“‘That was a big factor to me. I just want to compete and be the best quarterback I can be,’ Allen said. ‘So yes, I am going to compete for the starting job. That’s my goal.’”

Hope competing for a starting job is a goal of every player.

“There were times before I thought about coming back. Even when I left Tarleton State I thought about it but there was not that much interest from Kentucky then.”

I'm sure Cutter Boley thinks he has a shot to compete for the Starting job too. I think it will be a short and sweet competition in the spring and Vandagriff emerges in much the same fashion that Levis did when he arrived on campus. It only took a few practices to realize who the starter would be. I have to also think that Vandagriff's lack of actual game play and experience is factoring into that discussion as well so the "competition" is more a test to see if his skills are as advertised and Allen is plan B if for some reason Vandagriff unexpectedly doesn't pan out.

Exactly.

We nor the coaching staff knows exactly what we are getting from BV.

Hopefully it is a 5 star, ready to lead this team to a lot of wins. I am sure that is what he is being brought in for, but can he step into that role and lead this team??

We are about to find out and I am excited about having him and BA on our team for next year. May the best man win the job......early in the spring.

And if CB is the best QB and ready to take on that role, that would be fantastic also.

And I hope this coaching staff allows every player to compete for the starting jobs.

There should be no guarantees of starters minutes prior to seeing a player actually compete for that position.

If there is a competition and BV doesn't win it expect him to hit portal after spring practice. He is done sitting, or maybe is dad is done with him sitting.

CMS will likely do what Kirby Smart and Saban do.
Don't name a starter until halfway through fall practice.

That is absolutely the only leverage a coach has.

Unless BV would be forced to sit out a year if he transfers a second time????

The starting job is his to lose, no doubt. But, he has never started a game that I know of???

You never know what you have until the live bullets are fired.

I'm hoping he is a superstar. God knows we need one at QB.

Grumpy, isn't BV's father a HS coach in GA? If so, what kind of program does he have?

No doubt BA will be given an opportunity to compete for QB1 this spring, but his statistics @ Tarleton St. were very similar to DL's statistics this year, the biggest difference being the quality (size/speed/etc.) of competition. I'm glad BA is here, but the program will probably not take the next step forward that we all want if he wins the competition. BVG needs to be what we all think that he is for the program to make the needed improvements.

It is worth noting that the offense seemed to come alive this year against the best OOC teams we played, averaging 36.5 ppg against UL & Clemson. Yes, I'm aware both games included ST scores, but they also count and take away opportunities from the offense.

Yes he is. He is the head coach at a very small private school in Athens, Athens Academy or something very close to that. They won the GHSA private school state championship this year. They are in the hunt every year, its very small, less than 100 students I think, bout all the males play FB. He had a QB this year that broke all of BV's records

That may not work on him again, dad thinks he should be playing, was assured the job would be his. The family are, or were AU people and AU been recruiting him since Freeze was hired but Freeze wouldn't assure dad BV would be the starter. BV is a good guy, he just wants to play, Dad on the other hand wants assurances. As a parent I guess I understand that. That isn't from BV but its a quote from one of UGA's WR who I think would tell me the truth.

Totally makes sense. Especially if you are the dad.
Like I said. I have no doubt he is QB1 coming into spring practice.

And I hope he remains that way because of his talent.

My sources tell me (I don't have any sources) that Allen will be "competing" for the starting job, but it's Bandersnatch's job to lose.

BV seems like a good guy, a good athlete with some good skills. He has had a private QB coach for 10 years and he still has a hitch in his delivery which produces a slower release than it needs to be. I hope he does great in all but one game. But some posters have set expections s

If he's everything that he's expected to be or as good as his rankings indicated, it should be a pretty quick and easy decision once the "competition" starts. When Levis came in he was obviously head and shoulders above Allen and Sheron at the time, it took about two weeks of practice for Coen and Stoops to officially name him the starter. They may humor Allen through the Spring, but I would venture to guess BV will be named the Starter pretty early on once camp starts in the summer.

JRow has Boley at QB2 over BA. I guess he'll be competing for the starting job too.

Have a hard time believing Boley would be ahead of Beau if something did happen to BV. Not a knock on Boley but Beau has years of experience and Boley is a talented but raw true freshmen.

True, though how often have you seen a walk on QB higher on a depth chart than your 4/5 star bellcow recruit?

BV does have a particular tear in one of his knees. UGA wanted to fix it, parents said no reason. Hasn't bothered him so j
Correct but it does happen. He bestvpit multipe 4 snd 5* QBs

But in SB case his lack of size cost him some stars. He passed over 14k yards in HS, but was about 5'9" 160 lbs as a Sr in HS. If he had been 6'2" 210 he would have been a 4*.
