Vanderbilt has a roster of ‘point guards.’

This is the hilarious logical end to a trend growing for years now where players list themselves at positions they don't actually play to try to appear more skilled and "perimeter" oriented. Today players who actually play center insist on being listed as forwards (seems like nobody will admit to being a center nowadays), players who actually play forward insist on being listed as guards, etc.

Figures we'd eventually reach the point where a coach decides that everybody can be listed as a point guard ...after all, isn't that what today's recruits want to hear?

It's silly.

But does it really matter a position? There are 6'8 "guards" now. 7'0 footers that want to be listed as forwards. What position is Lebron truly?

You don't have to start a certain number of guards, forward or a center, so at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what they put on the roster. Broadcasters know what the positions are.
