While it's sort of weird to call a 14 year old a known quantity, Cavan has been playing up for Union Academies since he was ten or eleven. His older brother Quinn has had some success with the US U20 group. What makes Cavan unique from previous youth like Pulisic and Reyna is he could play in Germany starting at 16 but is opting to stay with Philly Union as a domestic player until he's 18 and will head to Man City. Maximo Carrizo with NYFC is an under 16 player who might be on the early European route and he's a dual national with Argentina as well as the US.

Again, though, it's not because of US pro soccer or even the US World Cup of 15-20 years ago so much as the Internet and streaming
Liverpool just signed a contract with an under 18 US player, right? That's pretty huge

Figueroa was one of the primary strikers on the last U17 World Cup team for the US; he's probably an example of the classic American 9 like Altidore where he is a physically very mature 18 old. Axel Kei with Real Salt Lake is the same way. Those kids seem to top out pretty early.
Brooks Lennon with Atlanta FC did a stint through Liverpool but never made it through to the Senior team.
Yeah, but the guys most physically ready have fared better. The Aronson's, to name two, will continue to be ok players until they put on weight/ muscle. Sargent looks like a different guy than in years past, maturing physically, and his play shows.
To the best of my understanding, the reason Cavan is staying in Philly was because Man City was wanting him to go to some tier 2 Belgian league or something. Cavan's family and the Philly organization thought his development would be just as good staying home.
I saw enough of that crap during the Cal years to know EXACTLY what happens when your team waltzes out with pink shoes on.

The greatest thing soccer could do is change the offsides rule.

I like Cherundolo, but if USSF goes to him first, that demonstrates a lack of vision. I've heard they're reaching out to Klopp. Renard would be another interesting candidate.
Needs to be a coach who is known for developmental portion of coaching. If a coach can't develop the team, it won't matter.
JFC, if they don't make Klopp an offer he can't refuse just kill the whole damn program, this isn't a difficult decision

I wasn't calling your post out, I was calling US soccer out. It is not a quick fix is the sad part, it will take years to change the mindset and the way the US approaches international competition. It all starts with players developing way younger than now, coaching, tactical, you name it. Not one phase of US soccer is remotely on par with consistently good countries. There are too many smaller countries to name, that have a lot less resources, player pool, facilities, and overall opportunity to succeed, but have a lot better soccer programs than the US. There is just not one thing that can change the direction of US soccer, but until they hire a coach who has international success, no matter the changes that are made, they will still be far behind. I truly believe a change in approach has to start at the pre-high school stage of learning the game. I will also add in tennis as a sport the US should NEVER not have a player not tanked in the top 5. But for some reason, tennis, soccer, and other sports the US should excel in, simply are not. Tennis in the 80's / 90's is proof they CAN be competitive, even dominate, but for reasons that stump me, they simply have not been in years. Where did the John McEnroe's, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi type players disappear to ? Same for the women side, though with the Williams sisters they have had recent success, just not consistent outside of them.

I have been watching USMNT for 40 years and I don't remember a time that seemed more hopeless than right now.
It always seemed we might be gaining a little ground, but everything USMNT related has taken some major steps backward.
