In these situations I try and just keep it simple and keep my selfish, personal biases to myself.

Before Diallo ever stepped foot on our campus he knew he would be eligible for the draft. He came here to get better by going against Fox, Monk, and Briscoe everyday in practice. He said in his statement that his game has improved so much since he's been at UK. He said Kentucky prepares you for the NBA better than anyone. If there is no penalty for "testing the waters" why not go and put yourself out there and see what the NBA people have to say about you and get an honest assessment on where your at as a player? I think he more than likely will return eventually, but he's not done one thing that I wouldn't encourage my own son to do. Cal is not surprised by any of this. He's not going to stand in the way of any kid striving to reach his dreams. Kids no longer dream of playing for UK or any other school. They want to get paid and who are we to say he shouldn't? This has been the plan all along for Diallo whether we were informed of it or not. Kids want to come here because it's undoubtedly the best place for them to reach their dreams and along the way they hope to fulfill the dreams of a national championship for themselves and the fans. Look at how Fox and Bam were after the loss to UNC. These kids dont owe me or you anything other than to represent the University with class while they are here, and all of the players that Cal has brought in here have done that and they continue to do that in the NBA (Cousins is a little questionable here, hehe). So stop acting like Diallo has "played" anyone. He's doing what's best for him and his family and Cal is doing what he does best, he's supporting his decision and trying to help him any way he can. How anyone has a problem with this is just being selfish.

I guess UK has become the make a wish foundation of college basketball making kid's dreams of millions come true.:joy:

I totally agree.

I am one of those people and I think the message is loud and clear that Cal is a players coach who has their back. I think Cal deserves every penny he makes. If you are a UK fan I would assume you would prefer Billy Gillespie coaching and we could be hoping to make the NIT every year.

Negative, I much prefer the winning, I just prefer the winning with players who actually play when they come here, I'm over losing EVERYONE ever year, even players who have no business being drafted earlier. Hell, we can't even keep a player that never stepped foot on the court for us lol

What is wrong with that. It not only makes their dreams come true but pleases millions of UK fans. Of course there are always a few that hates everything and will never be pleased. I have been a UK fan for years and have suffered through Eddie Sutton, Tubby Smith and Billy Gillespie. I love Cal and what he has done for the players he recruits and for the true UK fans that love winning.

So now we are horrible, selfish people if we get upset at a player leaving before he ever plays one game?Don't understand that at all.

I would see this as good news towards him returning, but some of you have already decided Duke is winning the 2041 title and that your grandchildren will be ugly, so don't let me stop you.
I think the workouts are soon and should tell the tale.Mock drafts really don't matter until then.

I didn't say anyone was horrible, but let's face it we are being selfish. I want him to stay and play for UK as bad as anyone but what right do I really have to deny him this opportunity? I would be doing the exact same thing he is and I would encourage my son to do the same. One serious injury is all it takes. I'm 52 years old, am I really going to allow the decision of an 18 or 19 year old kid to fulfill his dreams affect my passion for Kentucky basketball? He's doing what's best for him and I'll go to work tomorrow and continue to do what's best for me and my family. That's all I can do and should do. He's doing the same.

Quick question, would we be in a big uproar like we are if Wynyard had left after his first semester/year?? I'm gonna guess probably not.

So let's be honest for a second, the only reason we are complaining is because Diallo has a chance to increase our bragging rights.

Yeah it's terrible of us to want him here to increase our chances of a title.

Never said it was terrible. That's not terrible to want him to help win a title. But treating him like some con artist, and attacking him as some fans have, is terrible. Look, I want him to return as well, and I hope he does, but if he doesnt, we will still likely be very good to great next year. I have come to terms over the years, that I'm not going to let my life happiness be dictated by an 18-19 year old kid.

I am one of those people that pack Rupp every game and I think the message is loud and clear that Cal is a players coach who has their back while winning over 80% of his games. I think Cal deserves every penny he makes. If you are a UK fan I would assume you would prefer Billy Gillespie coaching and we could be hoping to make the NIT every year.
The old, "Do you want Billy?" Argument. Impossible to get any coach, other than, Tubby or Billy. It's just not possible. Such infatuation with Cal. He has a real cult following.

So why are you guys worrying ???? Listed at 35th???? Yeah that means he'll be back. Especially considering he'll be top 5 in 18. LMAO. Y'all are trippin man. He will be back. You really think he wants to be a 2nd RD pick? This is just stupid as holy hell. HE WILL BE BACK.

He'll suck it up at the combine, be outshined by kids like Bacon, Dozier, Hart, and 10 plus more and HE WILL BE BACK. No worries.

So why again did Diallo not play during his semester at UK?

I'm just amazed that so many people are now clamoring for an answer as to why he didn't play this season. He came at the end of December. We had already played 13 or so games. He didn't have a relationship with anyone on the team. He didn't know a thing about the system. He probably wasn't in playing shape either. But you guys wanted him to jump in and probably disrupt the team chemistry just to work out the kinks? Seems to me that we won 14 games in a row before the EE loss. Anybody think that just maybe we wouldn't have come together and done that if we were trying to incorporate a totally new player? Early in the season, maybe? But when you have things rolling, there is no benefit in making a change like that.

The "get to know players over 4 years" argument doesn't really hold water these days. We know EVERYTHING about these kids before they ever step foot on campus. The only thing people knew about Jamal Mashburn was that he was from New York

So why again did Diallo not play during his semester at UK?
The real danger here is that one of the really good teams, like SAS, picking near the end of round one will see him as a classic value pick. They are "rebuilding" especially in the back court. Diallo is the kind of long quick defense first player that Popovich loves ( see leonard, Kawhi). The same reasoning applies to any of the bottom third of teams. If he hits a bunch of 3's in the workouts, he's gone and good for him. he should never have been prevented from selling his services.

Cal has been transparent in this regard since he arrived. What he's doing with the Diallo situation is strengthening his hand with the elite recruits going forward.
It may not be anyone on this board's first choice, but it is what it is.

Just about every recruit we bring in is using us. How many times you hear a recruit say "its a business decision"? They choose us because they want to make money and the quickest way to do that is here riding the coattails of the "Ky effect"
True, but the give the university and the fans something back. Diallo has done nothing for U.K. And like I said before, I wish the kid no ill will, hope he has big success, all of that. But I'm a fan of UK, not Hammi Diallo. And yeah, if it was my kid I'd probably think differently. But he's not my kid, so I'm not going to pretend like he is.

Some of y'all need to get a grip. The dude hasn't even left and some of you are throwing a tantrum like he just hired an agent and already got drafted. Nothing wrong with seeing where he stands, hell I'd do it just to see what I need to improve on to improve stock.

Some on here (I don't know what you have posted and don't care to look) are being a large mix of selfish/ignorant/stupid/insane about Diallo going through a process all assumed he would from the minute he got here. As someone else noted in a thread, this was the ultimate low-risk, high-reward situation for Cal. It's a unique situation and one that won't happen often, and Cal decided it was worth the minimal risk.

People are acting like Diallo single-handedly kept this team from winning a title. In actuality none of us know how Diallo looked in practice or if he could have helped us out. The kid came here to practice, get NBA feedback, and then make a decision. If he hears that he's a sure-fire first rounder (which means a multi-year contract and multi-millions of dollars), then I will never fault him for going to the pros.

People need to grow up. If this kid's decision to make millions of dollars when given the chance or play for UK for "free" causes some of you to be this upset, then I'd hate to see how you react when you get a speeding ticket, have bad service at a restaurant, or have someone tell you that your outfit is mismatched.

LOL at the overreaction . I am not going to pay attention to any good or bad news until the he either announces he will be back or that he is gone . I have this same frame of mind for all players who enter the draft when there is a good chance they come back ( like with Briscoe last season) . I supect Diallo comes back but you never know.
I think there has been overreaction both ways to justify and vilify the Diallo situation. He does what he does,if he stays in the draft he probably added very little by being here and he probably did little damage by being here.If he returns then we will see if all the hype is justified. At this point I would rather have Bamba and Johnson than Diallo

We know that he's evidently good enough for the NBA. But UK has more competition than the NBA.

Brilliant, so why doesn't everyone come to Kentucky, not.play and improve their draft stock? You may have a point, if he was hurt like Giles, but that's not the case here.

Thats what I do not like. No fault of the kid but of Cal. If the kid paid his own way onto the team and was forthright with his intentions and then declared I wouldn't be too concerned about it. It bothers me that the culture is come in and leave and you don't have to do anything to prove yourself. I think what most on here are upset is Diallo saying that is 100% going to college. lol well I guess he did
Auburn had a big guy enroll early for them and he played 18 min a game and averaged 8/5 I think it was, may have been more as its been a while since I remember reading about his stats. Diallo playing could have been the difference of us beating UNC by 2 instead of losing by 2 and #9.
Water under the bridge now though.
