Auburn has certainly looked vulnerable this year, but they are still a formidable foe. They have lost two games, but their opponents were LSU and MSSt. LSU is better than any team we have faced, and State has a very experienced QB. Auburn, as we know, knocked off lil brother in their opener, and struggled this past week, as we did, with a weaker opponent.

Also like us, they have Saturday off, so they get extra time to prepare for us, just as we do for them. I think they are probably a better team than we are right now, but we get the home field advantage. IMO, this is a game that could go either way. If our OL plays its best game of the year, I think we win.

Of course, Auburn has its share of negative fans, too. Here are a couple recent quotes from their forums for your reading entertainment.

"Our team is not just struggling, it's not just young, it's not just having growing pains....folks, this team is awful!"

"So this is what it feels like to be Vanderbilt.."

"This team, as is, will be totally incapable of winning an SEC game this year."

"Face it fellas... We're a SOFTBALL school!!"

"And so this is where we are. Worried about an upcoming game with Kentucky. I was hoping we would never be back to this point."

I'd be a bit surprised to get a win over Auburn, but it certainly looks much more plausible than it did during the preseason. This game was one that I had marked as an automatic loss when the schedule came out. If we show up for 4 quarters we should at least have a chance at the end.

I think we should EXPECT to win this game. Auburn is not a good team, haven't been good in one single game this year. They absolutely could beat UK even if they play their C game (in that case, it depends on how well or how poorly we play), but I expect our team to show up crisp and focused for the school's first-even thursday night home game.

AU is a game we win if we start out like we did against USC. A fast start gets AU thinking they cannot beat us and they will struggle. If we let AU hang around they will become more confident they can beat us and the game probably mirrors the UF game.

I'm picking UK to win, but only on the assumption that UK plays consistently for 4 quarters for once.

Auburn is not a top 25 team and not close to the top 10 team pundits predicted preseason. But, as EKU and ULL demonstrated, if we do not bring it with our best, we will be beaten by a team like Auburn.

Two things that our defense will have to deal with that have been negatives in the Stoops era, (1) hurry up pace offenses (see EKU and how confused we looked at times) and (2) a team that can run the ball.

Auburn has not ran the ball that well consistently this year. San Jose ST game...yeah, Barber played great, but if you ask any diehard AU fan they will tell you that in addition to poor QB play the inability to run the ball well at times has been another huge issue for them.

False! Seriously, how can you have forgotten that November 30, 1939 epic tilt?! Some fans... [laughing]

Well, I am getting a little forgetful, but I don't see how you expect me to remember anything from when I was one year old. That was the year my oldest brother was the captain of our local high school team though, I think I remember that-----or maybe it was 1938------LOL.
