UNC's Roy Williams Retiring

UNC's coaching tree is garbage, much like ours is.

They will probably go outside the family this time. They'll make overtures to Few or Stevens, but not publicly because both coaches will shoot them down.

Look at how much UK improved since december, remember the 1st game against kansas? UK was 20-30 points better than them in april.
20-30 points better but we beat them by 8 in a game that was as close as 4 with 2 minutes left?

And the level of talent squandered by dean. Roy did much better.

I'm still hesitant to completely buy this, given the calendar. But his entire roster just left....
Roy won three titles at UNC. There’s only three active coaches with more than one title and he’s one of them.

I don’t know what year where they should’ve won but didn’t?

The 2017 title though was 100% a gift from the NCAA official

Zero chance on Few. He’s been approached by both NBA and top-tier college programs quite a few times before, and he always flat out rejects them. He won’t even do an interview.

Believe it or not, Gonzaga is the only place Few wants to be. He’s a strange duck.
I think it has everything to do with Dan Monson who Few was an assistant to in 1999. Monson gave up the reigns of Gonzaga after building it- headed to Minnesota and failed and then ended up at Long Beach State. Few has a good thing going. No reason to change it.

He’s comfortable. Little pressure there to win at the highest levels. He’s a hero getting to a final
Four. He’s a west coast guy, etc.

Wes Miller will be the favorite to replace Roy. Young, energetic and an up and coming coach. UNC seems to always keep it in the house. Hubert Davis possibly but he has never been a head coach. I will go with Miller.

I'll miss Coach Roy. Great coach and by all accounts a great guy. I hope he enjoys retirement, but remains visible.

All three of them had academic ineligible players and should have been stripped. Only the 1951 or whatever year that Frank McGuire for them is a legit national championship. By the time Dean E. Smith one his first one, the academic fraud Carolina Way model was already in place so neither of his and none of Roy's were legit.

Do you think they go after Pitino? Today's expectation is win now, you don't have the time to "build" a program like UNC.
Yes, he spurned us, I understand that...he's also a proven coach, has won titles*, etc...

If I am Pitino, then I'm am all onboard. Will be rare in that he would have coached @ UK, U6 and then UNC...that's right up his egomaniac alley

He also averaged a good cheating program without getting zapped by the NCAA.
Yes academic cheating went on but he still had to coach the players to success on the court.
Cal has failed in on court coaching with the amount of talent he’s had.

Yeah, I agree they were corrupt as hell and should’ve been given the death penalty and lost a title or titles. But they still played it. Doesn’t change that Roy had three teams win it.

It'll be interesting to see the shortlist for this job. After Smith they had a rocky ride with coaches until they landed Roy.
