It seems like today there's two lines of thinking I'm seeing here:

One is omg these other teams are losing look at what opportunity we've blown by making stupid decisions at the end of the game.

The other is.........omg look at all these teams losing because they didn't make smart decisions down the stretch of games. Look at the opportunity all of these teams have blown.

Both are true. This just illustrates that 1) it's tough to win on the road and 2) every team from time to time makes boneheaded decisions.

What’s going to get this team beat is Shooting. Like so many other years, we have one guy who can hit an outside shot,1. I remember everyone crowing about how we would play 4 guards and shoot teams out of the gym before the season started . Well here we are near game 30 playing exactly the kind of offensive sets Cal has always played. Wheeler is below average , although he did hit 2 three pointers today, half of our total. Mintz is streaky and unreliable, Washington hasn’t shot well from outside since well before his ankle injury, he managed to bank one in today. Grady our only real shooter is not exsplosive and struggles to create his own shot. We do very little to get him open looks. Brooks can’t hit from outside and Toppin is wildly inconsistent. Oscar might put us on his back and win a couple of games in the tourney, but he will not win 6 in a row. Good coaches watch us and scheme a defensive game plan that makes us struggle. We will struggle mightily to win the SEC tournament. All that said I have enjoyed watching this team and like all the players, they have represented the University well, but anyone who believes this is a championship team is living in LaLa land.

We were losing 13-2 before Wheeler and Washington came in the game. Wheeler was not the cause of t
this loss. If anything Grady scoring 3 points hitting 1 shot, Mintz giving us an 0 fer and Toppin doing nothing were the reasons we lost the game if there must be a scapegoat.

Wheeler only had one assist to Grady. Maybe he should look for Grady more than he does only reason today was because he lost his dribble and had no one else to throw it to.

You’re right, you're not going to win a lot of road games, but we had this one. We had 3 or 4 guys that were fighting and making winning plays, then we had 2 guys that played me-ball and made losing plays in key possessions. That’s a problem.

Wheeler needed to be on the bench mintz who’s proved to be clutch on the floor down the stretch with tyty and Grady. Look this team struggles with only two guys who can consistently hit outside shots on the floor. We have to have 3 quality shooters most of the time on the floor. That’s when we are at our best.

We did beat ourselves today. We had that game until Brooks killed us. He shouldn’t have even been in the game at that point. Cal just will not sit him. We ran several pick and pops for Oscar from 18 feet! That’s ridiculous and I have to think it’s to show the scouts he can hit from outside. I didn’t see any designed plays (that worked) for Grady. Actually, I know that they are. I graded us out as having a nearly perfect performance against Tennessee at home.

A perfect score in my model is 6.0. Our one game score for that UT game was 5.93.

Also not sure what you mean by playing our best ball at home. We’ve played well at home, like most teams do. Also won big at KU, won a tough game at Alabama. I think we’ve acquitted ourselves pretty well away from home.

I could give you an Oscar-like strength rebuttal but frankly see that it will do no good. You let off steam so presumably you feel better now. Watched and coached lots of basketball--we're legitimately one of a handful who could win it all. We're not quite the same quality team as our 1996 and 1998 champions, but we can still get close to that level and at present are still good enough to win a championship. There are some damn good teams out there who will not just lay down for us. Finally, being healthy does in fact matter a great deal. If you want to be pissed about something, try the no-good Russians and their war criminal of a leader.

The best advice I can give the OP and all the other complainers is to quit generating your self worth through Kentucky basketball. I keep hearing over and over again how we lost some "great opportunity" today.

The only thing we lost today was to have Joe Lunardi and Jerry Palm crown us a 1 seed 2 weeks before the brackets come out. And that's the rub here. Too many of you gain your self worth by pumping out your chest and saying "we're a 1 seed" even though seeds haven't come out yet and won't be decided until the conference tournaments.

If UK takes care of business -- and remember, we only have 1 road game left, and take a look how hard it is to win on the road -- today's game will mean absolutely nothing.

We're going to have to beat good teams to win the SEC tournament. It's the best at the top in many years. We're going to have to beat good teams to win the NCAA no matter what. Well guess what? When UK plays great, they destroy teams. When they play well, they can beat anyone. And even when they don't have their A game (or even B game, really), they can still compete and have a great chance to beat a ranked team on the road in an insane environment -- like today.

We have WAAAAYYYY too many scoring droughts during big games. The reason being the WRONG players are taking the most shots(outside of Oscar). Wheeler should NEVER take more than 6 shots unless they are break away layups. Brooks was 7-13, but made SOOOOO many boneheaded mistakes down the stretch that it cancelled out his above average performance for the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half.

Then we have Grady and Mintz shooting 5 shots, with Grady making ONE 3 near the end of the game. Cal MUST get Grady MORE involved. Cal is the one that has to FIND ways to get him more shots, I don't care what he says about Grady just standing around. Heck, when Wheeler NEVER creates a shot for him and TyTy or Brooks NEVER look for him, he's not going to get many shots up. Opposing defenses are going to try and keep him from getting the ball, so let him start the offense and put Wheeler off the ball.

If Cal can't figure out how to keep from having these slow offensive starts and scoring droughts, we will NOT make it to the Final 4. EVERY team that has failed to get there under Cal has had a problem scoring in those season ending losses. It is very concerning. Hope with Wheeler and TyTy being rusty, they can get their groove back in the next 2 weeks.

You do realize that Duke, UNC and Nova have all 3 won 2 Titles since Cal has been at UK. We have lost in the Elite 8 twice(WVU, Auburn) to teams that were FAR inferior to the talent we had. 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015 were AWESOME and I enjoyed every minute of those runs except for the 2 UConn losses and the heartbreaking Wiscy loss. However, Cal needs to get UK back to the Final 4 after a 6 year absence considering he is making nearly $10 million/year.

I'm SICK of the excuses especially when he calls me a "Basketball Benny" and doesn't think I or any other fan should question any of his shortcomings, instead just "Enjoy the ride" even if it ends short of the teams potential.

Simply paying your coach a lot of money doesn’t mean they can defy the ups and downs of basketball games. U say u remember when we dominated on the road and at home, well when was that? Was that in 2011 when we won 2 road games all year? Was it in 2014 when they struggled to win both home and on the road? You complain that we’re third best in the conference but I challenge you to find in the modern era any time period spanning more than 5 consecutive years where we won the conference every year. Tubby had a dominant team in 2003 that went undefeated in conference but the year before how did we do? Alabama won the conference and I’m pretty sure we finished even behind Florida and maybe a few others.

I don’t have a lot of excitement for a 6 loss Kentucky team who at this point should be showing improvement but isn’t. Too many years of this almost garbage. People who say a 1 seed isn’t important are the same people who think we are a title team from a 4. The reality is we are a top 15 type team with 1 great win and 5 decent wins. Tamu at the time was good but they have fallen apart. Our next best win is on the road against an average Alabama then we are talking home games that imo prove nothing other than we are good at home.

im sick of almost. Almost a 1 seed, almost a final four team but lose to KSU or Auburn. If we were truly a title team we would have beaten ark or at UT. Instead we are the last two seed if we are fortunate and that may mean Purdue is a 3 in our bracket. Things are not lining up the way they seemed after KU but everyone thinks we are fine. I don’t and you don’t have to look hard to see the warning signs.

losing the one line and potentially dropping to a 3 seed is devastating for this so called title team. It’s disappointing and I expect more especially when we have the pieces but our coach doesn’t know how to use them. I think this season will end on a sour note after hitting our stride too early. It’s been a frustrating 8 years and im ready to get over the hump.

Purdue and Auburn lost KU or Baylor will lose. Today was our day to cash in on an opportunity and it’s yet another opportunity lost.

It’s not over till it’s over, and you have way too much time on your hands.

The best advice I can give the OP and all the other complainers is to quit generating your self worth through Kentucky basketball. I keep hearing over and over again how we lost some "great opportunity" today.

The only thing we lost today was to have Joe Lunardi and Jerry Palm crown us a 1 seed 2 weeks before the brackets come out. And that's the rub here. Too many of you gain your self worth by pumping out your chest and saying "we're a 1 seed" even though seeds haven't come out yet and won't be decided until the conference tournaments.

If UK takes care of business -- and remember, we only have 1 road game left, and take a look how hard it is to win on the road -- today's game will mean absolutely nothing.

We're going to have to beat good teams to win the SEC tournament. It's the best at the top in many years. We're going to have to beat good teams to win the NCAA no matter what. Well guess what? When UK plays great, they destroy teams. When they play well, they can beat anyone. And even when they don't have their A game (or even B game, really), they can still compete and have a great chance to beat a ranked team on the road in an insane environment -- like today.

I get that snowflakes melt; that's what they do. But the constant overreacting and fretting, when there's way more evidence that this is one of the best teams, as opposed to "sweet 16 ceiling" as one fool said, just gets so old.

Since 2015 we haven’t been a 1 seed. We’ve had top teams to start the year and can’t get to that top line. We’ve lost a lot of games in the tournament that would have meant a final four walk for us. I see it happening again this season.

we’ve had opportunity after opportunity to seize an inside track on a 1 seed and again twice in the last two weeks blew the opportunity. This is a theme under cal blown opportunities. After last season my patience with cal is absolutely frayed. My confidence in him is an all time low. We keep getting chances and we aren’t cashing in. We are 7-5 against quality teams. One of the losses is a crappy ND team. We are a tamu loss away from being 6-6 against quad 1. I hear out fans and media gush over this team but I don’t see it. I see a team that punished Kansas on the road and is riding that win for reputation.

i see a team who everyone calls a “title team” with one great win all year. That’s the only win that indicates we have a chance. You take out KU and we are probably ranked 12-15 right now.

since KU we have regressed. We haven’t beaten anyone the way we beat Ku since. We gave up massive leads in the last 4 and had to fight to get back in the game. Injuries or not that’s not a trend that bodes well this point in the season. And here we are today choking out chance at a 1 seed choking it away like seasons past. That’s a strong indicator we are going to choke in the tournament.

people laugh and poke fun but at some point there will be a reckoning. Against LSU not only did we give them a massive lead we built a big lead and nearly lost it.

again I don’t care about the injury situation. We have them every year and will have something happen in the tournament. Cal imo does not know what his best five are. He thinks brooks and wheeler are locks for a lot of minutes but they have done more to hurt us than win games.

Ultimately, I am not reading that and don't care what youre unhappy about. My dad said scratch your ass and get happy!

Bottom line is we really need a Final 4 this season.

And I think we get it. The NCAA will do their darnedest to keep that from happening by putting UK in the toughest region but it will not matter.
This team is getting healthy, this team is very good, this team is battled tested away from Rupp and this team has an Alpha.
We are going back to the Final Four and most likely will win the thing.
