UK vs Wofford game thread

I know first pitch is still a little over an hour away. Zach Brown gets the start for Kentucky. He is going against Matt Wilburn who was 10-3 last season.

UKs lineup is:

Storm Wilson RF
Evan White 1B
Gunner McNeil DH
Javon Shelby 3B
Riley Mahan SS
Dorian Hairston LF
Marcus Carson RF
Luke Becker 2B
Troy Squires C

Kinda interesting to see Squires get the start over Arnold. Go Cats!
 
I found the 1580 stream. Unfortunately, the video is well behind the UK audio.
 
Interesting lineup today.... Riley Mahan hitting 5th is extremely odd.
 
I wasn't sure who would start there. There are a ton of possibilities at catcher.

Brown got hit pretty hard in the first.
 
Great second inning for UK. Got a couple hits, one from Shelby off the wall for a double, a liner from Becker, and a single for Mahan. Some creative base running helps UK get a 2-0 lead.
 
Top of the lineup getting to Brown a little bit. 1 out with runners on 1st and 2nd and the score 2-1.
 
Ground ball gets under the glove of Mahan to score another run. Now 2-2 with 1 out and runners still on 1st and 2nd. Tough play for Mahan, but possibly could have knocked it down.

Brown got a strikeout and a full count ground out to second to end the inning. Wofford got 4 consecutive hits to get those runs. UK hitters need to settle in and start getting some hits.
 
This Wofford pitcher is doing pretty good against the UK hitters. I think he has like 6 strikeouts now.
 
Strecker now up in the pen. Mahan commits the first error of the season that allowed a single to go to second. After a sac fly the top of the lineup hits a line drive double to give Wofford the lead 3-2.
 
Brown gives up another single to the top of the Wofford lineup and it scores another run as the grounder gets past Becker. Brown is now changing pitchers and will most likely go to Strecker.
 
Brown has really struggled against the top of the lineup. They have hit him hard in every inning. Hopefully he's just knocking some of the rust off.
 
Strecker made that look easy. Three straight strikes to end the inning.

Once again, UK bats have got to wake up a bit. Have to string hits together.
 
This Wofford pitcher continues to deal. UK got the leadoff hitter, Becker, on with a ground ball single through the right side. Squires advanced him with a sac and Wilson moved him to third on a ground ball out to second. Unfortunately, White went down swinging against the Wofford ace and the UK threat was ended.
 
I am not very impressive with our middle infield so far. Becker doesn't seem to have a whole lot of range, and Mahan continues to make some errors. It's early, and they turned a nice DP as I type this, but they haven't really sold me so far.

Strecker gives up a 2 out home run to give Wofford the 5-2 lead. Wofford now has 11 hits in this one.

The 4 and 6 spot up the middle are turrible so far. That can't be that way if they want to be good this year
 
Kentucky better have someone up in the pen. Strecker did a good job in his first inning, but he is struggling here. He got a strikeout to end the inning and strand two runners, but the top of the lineup will be up next inning. I think it is time UK gets another arm on the mound.
 
I have to run out for a little while so I'll keep an eye on here for updates. Pretty bad start for UK so far.
 
8 strikeouts now for the UK hitters. Just 6 hits. Those aren't encouraging numbers so far.
 
Make that 9 strikeouts. Mahan hitting behind Shelby might be a crime. Reks now hitting for Hairston.
 
Reks pops out to right field to end the inning and leave Shelby stranded at first. Shelby walked to get on base.
 
Strecker proves me wrong and gets the Woffords hitter to go in order for the first time in the game.
 
Wofford now going to the pen, Jordan Acetta (sp). The starter had 9 strikeouts, his most since 2014.
 
Carson started the inning and went down on three straight strikes. Becker once again works his way on base with a walk before Tristian Pompey pinch hit and flew out to right. Wilson then hits a ROUND TRIPPER over the right field wall to pull UK within 1. 4-5 Wofford here in the top of the 7th. White then draws a 5 pitch walk.
 
McNeill then lines one off the pitcher up the middle and puts the runners on the corners for Shelby with 2 outs.
 
Wofford now going to the pen once again. They will go to the righty Kulman.
 
Shelby drew 3 straight balls and then watched a strike before popping out to second base. UK might have been able to score on the first pitch. It bounced away from the Wofford catcher, but UK's runners stayed where they were. Probably not a bad idea with Shelby at the plate, but it didn't work out.
 
Strecker walks the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the 7th before Mahan makes a great play on a slow grounder to short. He had to range to his right and make a strong throw. It advanced the runner to second, but UK did get the out. Strecker then gets the strikeout. Cottam shows some defensive smarts as he grabs the dropped strike three, looks the runner at 2nd back and throws out the hitter at first. Strecker then gets a 3 pitch strikeout to end the threat. Going to the 8th... 5-4 Wofford.

UK also had two pitchers up in the pen. Not sure who they are.
