UK, Vandy, UT to serve alcohol.

Football season ticket holder my entire adult life. I go for the football, not the beer but to each his own.
Me too. I was never much of a drinker, but my ex-wife could pound some beer. When I divorced her in 1987, I swore off alcohol. Nowadays, my meds would keep me from it. But I'm a live and let-live kinda guy, so I think if the SEC is ok with beer, and we already sell it in limited ways, why not let everyone? I think this will probably be reversed before too long, anyway. Have a good Saturday Keyser [thumb2]

Melting down over beer. Relax man, you can drink before games, you can drink after games. You can even drink during games if you sneak it in. Surely you can survive for 3 hours on 8 Saturdays during the year without buying beer.
How dare you minimize the plight of some of our most affluent and well to do boosters; people who have put time and dollar after dollar into this program year in and out.

Sure, you and I take for granted not needing a beer all the time. But to make light of that when these poor boosters sit up in their air conditioned suites, with wifi and protection from the rain, have to be served because they can't make due without, well, its certainly no laughing matter to me.

Vandy and UT will serve alcohol to all fans. UK will serve to rich fans only. Great move by Barnhart.
This absolutely is a brilliant move. Let others do it so we see the problems they have doing it this year. There will be problems not suitable for sharing space with such a wide range of ages. Frankly, if you want to drink, stay home and drink. Many do it responsibly, but many do not and those very few can screw things up for other spectators, some of whom are very young, and for workers who don't need additional BS. I don't want to work at or watch a game around a bunch of belligerent drunks. Some days--not all--it's barely tolerable at Keeneland. You can make your own place into a luxury suite and drink all you want. And hey, no lines at the bathroom. I am glad Mitch wasn't willing to accede to the wishes of only a few.

I think I see your point! And you could even take it a bit further, have the boxes cost more, but give them more. Maybe have escort services available. Maybe even let it be a huge tax write-off (probably already is?). Then in regular seating areas, have those areas blocked from the game and have Sunday school? And show reruns of Andy Griffith. Perhaps even a section for a quilting bee!!! I'm liking this!

Just lots of blabbering, and absolutely nothing brought to the table. However, I do respect your opinion. Some of you act as if sports venues all across America don’t serve alcohol everyday. This is a collegiate issue, specifically an SEC issue. UofL, 80 miles down the road, has served alcohol for years. I’m pretty sure every single professional sports venue in America serves alcohol.

And news flash, people are tailgating all day before some games. Are these people somehow sobering up before an 8pm kickoff game? I fail to understand just what exactly it is you’re insinuating. You don’t want to be around anyone drinking, so yeah, I’d definitely stay away from any sports venue, specifically college football, where people are loading up during pregame festivities all day. Oh, and fans are still going to sneak alcohol into the stadium regardless.

But continue whining about it, just for the sake of whining about it. And for the record, I will be staying home. Cold beer, hot grill, and a 60” flat screen does the trick. Maybe one day I’ll get rich enough, and maybe I’ll be able to enjoy a cold one at Kroger Field. Have a good one.

I agree. To me, college and pro football games are not strictly family-friendly entertainment venues. Even with no alcohol, they can get pretty wild. If you're trying to make a football game a kid-friendly event for your family, that might be a mistake. Take them to the zoo, the park, fishing, county fair, library, etc. But that's just my opinion.

I think its ridiculous myself that alcohol will only be served to a few, but I don't make the rules. Large catheter bags will hold about six beers each. I usually wear two to the games.
