Weird that we're hearing about some of these guys. Last year, Pope et al. were quiet as a mouse.
I like this dude. He's got a few years left, and playing against DII might not be huge, but that competition is better than high school. Assume he comes in and has the development and impact of a freshman.

This is how u build a roster. We have no forwards on this team that can do what does in his videos.
Those shooting percentages to go along with his athleticism suggest he could make a great SF
Auburn has a really good former D2 guy. Drake is full of them.
This guy can shoot, is athletic, and has 3 years left. With 15 spots, you take this kid. Could be a huge payoff and doesn't scare away other players.

Kid is really good. I’ve watched him a few times this year. I live down close to the border and apparently Tennessee has been scouting him for months. I’m sure they will reach out to Freeman as well.
Well, not really. we basically have about 2 months. The Portal doesn't officially open until next Monday, so no official moves can happen until then. but we have to be very active once the season ends, and some before if we make the sweet 16. Monday starts the free-for-all.
Did not play AAU or just late bloomer (sometimes a player just makes huge progress in one year)
Also, talking about D2, Drake say hello, main guy was D2 player before and they are in big tournament now...
Do not mean Elyjah is that good, but he will definitely have lots of P5 offers, he is not a bad talent at least
We can take up to 6-7 guys if we want, maybe more depending on who stays/goes. I'm gonna trust that Pope has a direction in mind. He built a solid roster from scratch, but couldn't anticipate the rash of injuries that plagued us and cost us quite a bit this year.

Yeah. Ppl hear D2 or Juco and automatically associate it with talent. Sure, correlation often exist. But there are also people who slip through recruiting cracks bc they didn’t played in rural areas and didn’t participate in AAU circuits etc. don’t know if that’s the case with this guy, but if they have the physical attributes of a D1 player and are dominating their level… that is just as much proof they can play at this level as is a High School Senior with NBA measurables averaging 16ppg and being top 10 in their class.
I’ll take a 6’8, athletic, can handle the ball, twitchy, full year of collegiate weight training, incoming sophomore over the 6’8 stick figure incoming freshman that is hyped up on YouTube highlights at glorified pickup basketball AAU circuits if they are putting up similar stats. That’s where some eye test factors in. D2 basketball is a significantly higher competition level than AAU
I said in year 1. Chaney Johnson didn't play much in year 1.
I'm not against adding him, but we do have to keep some perspective. IMO, our bench/role player situation is already nearly full. We have 3 sophomores and at least 2 freshmen in reserve roles for next year. We need 2-3 starters first and foremost.
Freeman looks like a good fit as a C initiating Pope's offense at the top of the key. The concern I would have is his defense against other SEC bigs b/c he looks a step slow. Depending on matchups, though, he could guard the opposing C.
Would definitely need a pair him with a more quick, athletic PF/C to play defense against other bigs.
Pair OWEN Freeman with ELYJAH Freeman at SF as a shooter and slasher (considering how much height he gets on dunks) and a good athletic PF...sounds good

Thanks. I never followed much PAC-12 basketball other than the top teams. I just couldn't think of any D2 guys like that.
Drakes whole team this year are D1 transfers. Might want to educate yourself a bit. I do not want a whole roster of D2 guys, but there are VERY good players that start out there. Could be a number of reason why they start in the D2 ranks, not always about talent or end talent.
Honestly I didn’t know he had been d2, I just happened to be curious and googled successful d2 to d1 transfers and his name popped up
I actually went to LMU for grad school, so it’s pretty cool to see one of their players showing up as a potential transfer target.
As for my thoughts on Freeman himself, he looks like an intriguing prospect. I would expect some adjustment period if he moves up to D1 and is no longer far and away the most athletic guy on the floor, but he does look like a legitimate athlete, and the 3 point and free throw percentage suggest that he may have some skill beyond dunking. I’d be pretty happy if we landed him as a bench piece with the potential to be more if he adapts well.
He’s young which is a plus. We could get a couple productive years.

Freeman is the biggest thing to hit Harrogate since Oasis Pizza (RIP) opened. Seriously though, Freeman has a big ceiling and (IMO) a high floor that would at worst have him as a valuable contributor off the bench. As a true freshman…

Also, best player from Drake plays D2 last season, and he gets almost 20 pts per game in a 11 seed tournament team
I don't know...depending on the rest of the lineup, this kid appears to have tools (good perimeter shooter, good vertical leap/athleticism around the rim) where he could be a starter. His ability to play above the rim appears better than Jax/Brea...I'm not saying he's better all-around, but I haven't seen those guys make ANY plays above the rim like Elyjah.
Are saying we will have a top 5 talent roster in the SEC or National. Either one will require Pope to 100% turn his roster over. Talent also includes defense. If defense is part of the talent evaluation, we will not have top 5 talent. That statement is one hell of a stretch and to expect Pope to be able to do that is just crazy unfair to Pope. He is good but he does not have a genie lamp. I hope you are close to being right but dreams do not make a team. We need to give Coach Pope this recruiting class plus one more before we can expect what you stated. We have to remember that every good or great player in the portal will have 20+ schools recruiting him hard with NIL dollars as large or larger than ours. Remember kids today could care less about the name on the front of their jersey. It is, "show me the money."
Why you mad at me? I was was stating a fact that some portal services see NBA talent with this guy and we have a segment in our fanbase that all they saw was D2 and we're immediately turned off by it. I say if we got 15 scholarships and the staff feels like he's a fit then give him a try. Sometimes you strike it rich on a gamble.
They aren’t mutually exclusive imo we can get both. This kid is 6’8 to Agbim’s 6’3 so he adds some defensive length and rebounding potential as well. If it’s one or the other…idk, I like Agbims game. But I don’t think you can go wrong w either.
Agbim was also a JUCO guy so (not saying you fall in this camp) for the ppl concerned about “D2 means he’s a 8-12th man”… a single year at a D2 bc you were overlooked is no different than going to a JUCO to develop and get game on film to get recruited by bigger programs. Sometimes kids end up D2 or JUCO bc their grades weren’t great in HS too and and bigger colleges will admit them after they’ve proven they can handle collegiate curriculum.
Would love for him to be a Cat. So many detractors on here. Yikes.

As much as i love home he is probably hungry and motivated to get out of there and do well at a bigger pgm - wouldn't sleep on this kid for sure
