The Memorial is this week. Jack the GOAT event. You're a week early goof.

Going to a practice round next Tuesday with a vendor, then Friday with buddies. Have played several courses there but looking forward to being on #2 and not just from the clubhouse restaurant.

Rory should not be anywhere near the Top 5 list at these majors. The guy hasn't won one since 2014 and always breaks down. Bryson is going to be a problem but Scottie is just so consistent its hard to pick against him. Who knows which Brooks shows up.

So when you quote original 1930's playing conditions, does that mean the yardages will be same as in 1930's? Thanks.

Donald Ross believed in providing golfers with strategic choices, and Pinehurst No. 2 was intended to epitomize that philosophy. In March 2011, No. 2 reopened following a year-long restoration project designed to restore the course’s natural and historic character, and the strategic options that were the centerpiece of Ross’s vision. The $2.5 million project was conducted by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and included work on every hole. Features of the project include:

  • Increase fairway widths Fairways were widened by as much as 50%, offering more strategic options in playing holes from tee to green.
  • Removal of rough All rough was eliminated, establishing two heights of grass: greens and everything else.
  • Reintroduction of natural areas 35 acres of irrigated turf were removed, restoring natural areas of sand, wire grass, pine straw and a variety of native grasses.
  • Turf maintenance 650 irrigation heads were eliminated, and the centerline irrigation was restored.
  • Wiregrass More than 200,000 plants were added
  • Overseeding Eliminated during the winter months, allowing for firm, fast conditions throughout the year
  • Increased length Thirteen new tees were added to the championship course, increasing the total championship length by more than 300 yards, to 7,565 from 7,214.
  • Bunker modifications Several bunkers were restored, eliminated or reshaped based on aerial images of the course from the 1940s, and bunkers were edged to create rustic appearance
  • Greens Only two (15 and 17) were modified slightly to increase hole locations.
  • Cart paths Relocated and concrete removed.

From The Fried Egg,

Two good, 15 bad - A total of 17 LIV players teed it up at U.S. Open qualifiers on Monday with just two — David Puig and Dean Burmester — making it through to Pinehurst.

You will probably see Sergio get in as an alternate but few others.

Fairways widened by up to 50% ? Sounds like they changed it to cater to the long hitters. Rip and chip I like to call it. How does that take it back to the 40's ?

I saw a 15 year old is playing in the US Open. At 15 I was hoping to get lucky with a hot chick and this kid is going to be teeing off at the US Open with the best golfers in the world. 😂

US Open has typically been the toughest of the majors.
PGA has the best field but the rough and crazy fast greens makes the US Open the toughest. Kaymer destroyed the field last time they were in Pinehurst and his total was -9. Fowler was runner up at -1. That was a tough field that year and outside 1 guy it beat them up. Pending the weather I expect it to not give up much this time around either.

The typical stimpeter for a PGA even is 12. Last year at the KHSAA state championships at Bowling Green they were 13-14. Why the KHSAA feels the need to have greens faster than what the PGA plays on is beyond me.

Hate that I'm so close for the 3rd time to the Open at #2, and still not going/been.

Your little cry fits every US Open are pathetic. God forbid these guys face an actual challenge once a year where -15+ isn't required to win if the weather is nice. Are there some absolutely crazy/dumb shots and rollouts....sure? So what? The players do (should) know what/where those are.

It's part of the charm of the US Open, and why it's the toughest test in golf. Every major should be and play the same!!!!

Amazingly, there are already 18 players under par. And guess what, there will be plenty who figure out a way to handle it all, and one of them will ultimately win.

WHAT A TRAVESTY!

Pinehurst definitely has teeth. No rain in sight for the weekend so these greens are only going to get faster. Anyone under par heading into Sunday will have a chance.

Your little cry fits every US Open are pathetic.

Nope...it isn't every US Open. They have actually let mother nature and the course dictate the scoring once in a while.

Fast greens are awesome....having the ball run off the green when you land 15 ft from the pin w/ a short iron isn't.

Keep it up, though. Your posts are stellar and so knowledgeable.

Yours are not.

Cancel the tournament now if USGA has any ethics whatsoever imo.

The leaderboard alone should tell you it’s just a big fluke of a course setup. They are being big meanies to the players just trying to have fun & cash a check so they can feed their families.

Black eye for golf. Time for new leadership at the USGA, sick of this bullshit. Maybe Jay the God can run both? 🙏
