Trust the staff with Mintz.

Hey if you still haven't ignored his tenth account, that's on you, but it sure clutters the threads for the rest of us because we see your replies.

I don’t post much but all I’m gonna say is to me, he’s a vet college player who WANTS to be here if we lose everyone who’s our vet a sophomore Brooks ? Mintz is a slightly above avg PG with a lot of college experience I’ve seen a lot of those beat our 5 star frosh cause they know the game. Nothing wrong with having a vet.

I can’t get excited when we have gone from the “it” program who gets whoever they want and the elite of the elite recruits to burning up the grad transfer market with a couple sort of elite recruits sprinkled in. Sorry.
Literally every big program in the country is doing it. Also, to give you a little perspective, UK won 3 titles with transfers that were a huge part of the reason they did in '78, '96, '98.

Davion Mintz’s fit for the basketball team is roughly the same as Sawyer Smith’s fit for the football team.

Geez, what an analogy.

So essentially, we have to hope he never plays? Because the football team was good with Terry and good with Lynn, but lost every game that Sawyer played any significant minutes.

I thought Sawyer was pretty good until he got hurt.

I am not ragging on the kid , I will wait till I see him play some games, but you got posters already proclaiming we will hang #9 because this guy is transferring in.
But then you’ve got other people downplaying the kid even though he’s exactly the kind of four year player people have said we need to be recruiting all along.

One thing I hope Jack is wrong about; that we are finished with the back court recruiting. I think we still need another guard. Boston and Clarke aren't really guards. They can handle, and pass, but I'd call them wings. Just me, but I'd go get another guard or two. Because injuries and transfer portals happen.

You’re spot-on, Bill; I agree with you.

My assumption is that another guard-option is on the table and that is what the staff hopes for; specifically, someone who can come in and knockdown shots from the outside at a decent clip to make up for the [to be] lost production from IQ.

More than likely, they are waiting to see what potential transfers come up; the decision date for the “one-time immediate transfer” rule has moved up to May (I believe the 25th) and that could take affect on that date if passed. This is where I see that additional guard option coming from if IQ does not return.

The Draft entry deadline is June 1st, as well. If they don’t get a transfer from the portal after that new rule is voted on, I could potentially see someone removing themself from the Draft and opting to spend their last year at another school.

Those are the only two scenarios I see for the staff signing another guard.

I hope he is exactly what we need for depth and maybe he excels. I think we all want what’s best for UK, but to crown this kid as a savior is just wrong. He don’t need that pressure. Let him be what he is, use his strengths.

I don’t think he needs to be savior. I think he needs to be an effective point guard on a team that already should have plenty of scorers. I think there’s every reason to believe he can do that.

Some Kentucky fans want their cake and eat it too. It's unrealistic. They cry about getting elite talent and then those same guys leaving after a year or two. They say we have to get guys that are here for multiple years and develop throughout. Look, I realize we'll only have Mintz for a year because he's a grad-transfer, but now the same guys are saying he's not an elite-enough talent. Nate Sestina was a key to last year's team. Was he the anchor or the go-to guy? No. But how about those big shots he made at LSU. He would have been a rock for this team in the tourney.

We have some elite talent already. Now you fill the gaps with guys that maybe aren't world-beaters, but guys that can play and have played legitimate basketball for a few years now. Add a little dependability to the elite-level talent (that could show inconsistencies) we already have. I don't care if he averages 4-5 ppg, this is a good get no matter how you slice it.

Where did you play, what years? I want to look up your stats.
It’s apparent you’ve never played the game beyond church league. Your knowledge of the game is elementary at best. Leave the basketball talk to those of us who actually know the game. Carry on with your sad negative life.

Every year we have seen our 5*s struggle from time to time while playing against guys who were not highly rated but were actually better.

There are plenty of guys who can play that will never be in the league but are great college players. Based on his experience and numbers I’d say this kid will be a significant contributor. Really like the pickup.

Most of Cal’s most successful teams have had experience along with the frosh stars. Mintz’s experience is not in Cal’s system but neither was that of guys like Liggins, Jorts, and Miller.

This is some of the best news in awhile, at least to me.

I must have the moron who said that on ignore . Sestina was vital to the team . He provided leadership and his 3's won 1-2 games as well.
I was fine with Sestina as we had plenty of room on the roster to take him...but let's be honest without being totally brutal.

1. Sestina 5.8pts, 3.8 boards ant probably most vital stat was 40%3pt efficiency....but he only hit 22 3pts for the year. Not like a huge volume of shots.
2. Sestina was a pretty bad defensive player. I want to be nice as a I can....but he was the main reason we lose the infamous Evansville game as he couldn't stay with that dude that killed us and EJ missed that game. To be fair, he hurt is new a few games that we either lost or had to win in spite of him vs. due to him.
3. Nate's shooting was probably a difference LSU win...his other big game was a Ohio St loss. But most of his other games were hit 1-2 threes when he hit (and a slew of games he hit nothing in limited shots)

Again, I was fine with Nate on the roster. More than anything I scratch my head why Cal can't find an avenue sale UK to a bit lower rated kids to provide depth, practice vs. the best everyday and have a shot late in college career to develop into high profile player....vs having to depend on 1 year grad transfers which appears to be a norm for UK going forward. But Nate didn't provide leadership anymore than Jon Hood/Hawkins/Polson/Mulder, etc.. did as Srs. The leaders on this time were Nick, Quick and Ashton early in the year.

i do not see the staff signing another wing/guard
we have a backup at every wing/guard position
we have coming off the bench Mintz, Fletcher, Allen and at times Brooks

i think we get Haarms and unless a bigtime recruit reclassifies we are done

I believe it was the podcast where they (Jack and Travis) mentioned it as a possibility, but I’ll have to double-check. And, I agree, I think Haarms is the final piece realistically; but, I think if a sure-fire shooter dropped into their lap they would take it. However, I don’t think that’s likely as of now.

Where did you play, what years? I want to see your stats and you don’t know me from Adam, you have no idea who I am or what I have done, so enlighten us all on these credentials you are spouting off, because use you sound just like Kybassfan, who is the biggest idiot on this board. So, tell us, backup that big mouth of yours.

Iffin day roster ain't looking like...

C - Kareem Abdul-jabbar
PF - Larry Bird
SF - Kevin Durrant
SG - Michael Jordan but a better shooter
PG - John Stockton

C - Tim Duncan
PF - Karl Malone
SF - Scottie Pippen but a better shooter
SG - Ray Allen but a better athlete
PG - Magic Johnson but a better shooter
Step Curry but from Kentucky, Akeem Olajuwon but from Kentucky, and Reggie Miller but from Kentucky plus walkons like John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Tyler Herro, Deron Lamb, and Jamal Mashburn all from the Commonwealth.

Then I ain't interested!!!

every staff (along with every person) makes a mistake every-now-and-then
you just have to look at the total sum
no one can bat 1000

i think Cal and staff have earned our trust
Like i said in my second post..... he's right enough to always field good teams..... I dont have as much trust in cal as I used to though... his love of athletes is usually when the choice in players goes wrong.

‘09-‘15 >>>>>>> ‘16-current is my point. Huge drop off in talent/grown men recruits.

What is basketball retarded is believing grad transfers and a team full of little skinny/soft freshmen is the answer.
With this I have to agree. It seems like we have gone from getting 5 star MEN to getting 5 star BOYS. Like Wall, Cousins, Davis, Towns, etc., and now we have as someone described...skinny little boys. That's what concerns me.However, I do trust Cal and the staff... but it's not blind trust. No one can be right 100% of the time. And there is NO ONE that I trust completely (except for my parents).

Cal just continues to get the number 1 or 2 recruiting classes each year.. Sorry

Low post count tells the story for ukbblover. He obviously doesn’t know $hit about basketball from what he posted. He doesn’t post because that’s an issue for him, but sometimes stupidity takes over and his post ends up being the result.
Really? Because I thought a poster had a horrible take? Just my opinion. Thanks for letting me know that one’s basketball intelligence is dictated by post count on here. I’ll try and remember that.
