Trust the staff with Mintz.

As others have said, the list of amazing players dwarfs the list of disappointments, but even your list of busts is pretty crap.

Juzang was a good player who actually fit really well in Cal’s system and that I would have loved to see return.

Vanderbilt was amazing, he just got injured.

Diallo is an NBA player who finished his college season as a very respectable defender and with good stats overall.

Green was a great shooter and a good player for us, he just wasn’t a good point guard fit for Cal’s system, but he’s still going to be a solid college player elsewhere.

Wynyard was recruited as a bench player from the very beginning. He was recruited over every single season. It’s silly to call a player a whiff by the staff when he’s the lowest ranked guy on the team and the staff is filling his position with superior players every year.

So, basically your list is Kahlil Whitney. Amazing work.

If this kid had played his senior year at Creighton he likely would have had a 15/6 stat line (based on the previous year) and been the PG for a top 10 ranked team that would have challenged us if we went head to head with them. If that had happened then he would have been near the top of the Grad Transfer ratings and everyone would have been singing a much different tune! Looks to me like he may be a better passer and set up man and decision maker than Hagans. We will lose some defense , of course, but the scorers we are adding the team will be happy with this addition .

Very nice article here from Jack Pilgrim; goes into detail as to why the staff targeted Mintz and not others, and what he brings to the table in terms of expectations.

Early indications are that we are trending as the leader for Haarms.

Jack reiterated the staff expects Immanuel to leave and to announce that soon.

Final note: nothing to be said of EJ, but it seems the staff is looking to round-out the roster with Haarms to finish everything.

Dude why are you comparing 4 of the best players that ever played for this program, that’s just not a good comparison
‘09-‘15 >>>>>>> ‘16-current is my point. Huge drop off in talent/grown men recruits.

Lol good comparison...you are basketball retarded.
What is basketball retarded is believing grad transfers and a team full of little skinny/soft freshmen is the answer.

using “post 2016” is a prime example of an agenda

Bro you aren’t even arguing what you initially said...I’m not wasting my tome on your troll ass.

Good at times, struggled for the most part. Maxey was vastly overrated because he had a great first game of the year and rode that the entire season. He was underwhelming for the most part.
Maxey was vastly overrated? averaging 14ppg? the second leading scorer?!?!? ive seen enough

You are correct, the talent in the back-half of Cal’s first ten-years was not as good, but we can attest that dip in talent to the FBI investigation. That had a tremendous impact on recruiting behind the scene with what was wrongly taking place—that is what hurt Kentucky’s recruiting.

But, the staff is picking it back up in recruiting now, and all indications are that they are setting themselves up very nicely in 2021 and 2022; 2020 has been a very solid class, too.

It's weird.

People complain year after year after year when we don't use all of our scholarships.

Then we get someone that won't be great but at least contribute and some are all meh about this.

I guess it depends on mindset tho. Is Mintz coming in to replace someone jumping to the NBA or he is coming in as an addition.

IQ, Nick and EJ haven't announced yet.

Juzang had a couple of fair games Whitney had none so Mintz coming in has a lot of experience and does not see how he could be any worse.

So with IQ likely gone looks like either Mintz or Askew will start at PG. Will be interesting to see how they hold up.

We have no choice but to hope the staff made the right choice but the staff has made mistakes.... Whitney being one of them.
That goes back to talent evaluation from the staff but also all of the recruiting experts that had Whitney ranked so high even though he couldn’t shoot a lick. I’m not going to lie, I was excited about Whitney because he wanted to be here at least I thought so from his interviews in high school, I was wrong.
Enough blame to go around, coaching staff, recruiting experts and us as fans hyping the recruits

I am not ragging on the kid , I will wait till I see him play some games, but you got posters already proclaiming we will hang #9 because this guy is transferring in.

every staff (along with every person) makes a mistake every-now-and-then
you just have to look at the total sum
no one can bat 1000

i think Cal and staff have earned our trust

Seems like a lot of you are underwhelmed with the signing of this kid, I get it. But try and give yourselves some peace of mind. There are A LOT of grad transfers out there, and I'm sure there'll be more in the portal as we approach the summer. There are guys with more impressive stats out there as well. With that said, there is a reason Cal and staff targeted Mintz specifically.

I guarantee you this has been in the works for longer than we know. I'm also damn sure that Cal isn't closing his eyes and going after whatever random player his finger lands on. He wants Mintz for a reason.

Trust. In. Cal.
Don’t pay any attention to some of these naysayers. None of them have ever stepped foot on a basketball court.

Whitney, Juzang, Vanderbilt, Diallo, Green, Wynard, etc. The list is long and now you want us to trust the staff? I hit no problems getting him, but so far Reid was the only one that helped us very much. I am in wait and see more, but trust in staff 100%? Nope.
Dude, nobody gives a damn what you think. You are a nobody. Keep bitching and complaining. It only shows how lonely and miserable you are.

Good at times, struggled for the most part. Maxey was vastly overrated because he had a great first game of the year and rode that the entire season. He was underwhelming for the most part.

Might be time to start following a different sport. Maxey was everything he was billed to be. He was not a generational talent like our number 1 picks or Derrick Rose, nor was he touted as such. If you’re expecting that with every other recruiting class? You are going to be disappointed. I would say the same thing to Duke fans. Their generational talents (Grant Hill, Elton Brand, Jay Williams, Kyrie, Zion) are spread years apart as well.

I agree. Plus, if you think about him being more of a replacement for Juzang, he is a better fit, since he can play point and is a good defender, with Dontaie Allen and Cam Fletcher being the backup wings.

Askew/Mintz
Boston/Allen
Clarke/Fletcher

is a really good set of perimeter players. Our frontcourt is always what has needed help or players returning to ensure that we have a monster year.
This is the correct answer. No other team in the country has this potential. IQ, Hagans, Juzang and even Quade knows this. Time for the next chapter it seems.

One thing I hope Jack is wrong about; that we are finished with the back court recruiting. I think we still need another guard. Boston and Clarke aren't really guards. They can handle, and pass, but I'd call them wings. Just me, but I'd go get another guard or two. Because injuries and transfer portals happen.

I do like adding Mintz. This makes sense on both sides. If I'm Mintz, I see a whole bunch of available time that's up for grabs. And from our side of it, if Askew isn't quite ready or something happens, you've got a steady hand to guide the team. And depth. Depth!!!! Cal hates it, but I love it.

I can’t get excited when we have gone from the “it” program who gets whoever they want and the elite of the elite recruits to burning up the grad transfer market with a couple sort of elite recruits sprinkled in. Sorry.

Awesome! I guess that means we won’t be seeing much more of you.

Some of our fans are ridiculous.

They really do expect everything to be perfect...why aren’t we undefeated? Why didn’t we blow out this team by more? No trust in player evaluation? No trust in player improvement? No trust in one of the greatest basketball minds ever?

Spoiled fans....plain and simple.

Low post count tells the story for ukbblover. He obviously doesn’t know $hit about basketball from what he posted. He doesn’t post because that’s an issue for him, but sometimes stupidity takes over and his post ends up being the result.

Agree. Lots of stuff goes on that we as fans don't know and will never know. This wasn't random or by chance. I'm glad they got another guard with experience. It was a big need.
