He looks better from game to game. Yes, he is only 6’1 but Sears was not taller than him. We cannot say that Sears is great defensively but his great at driving , shooting and passing. Perry could model his game to Sears because has the scoring abilities. Is a matter of confidence . I like when he drove and scored against Alabama. He needs to do that more often.
Develop ways of scoring in paint , by playing on two feet, sealing your defender with your body, create contact when drive . He needs to do all that more often. He is your typical freshman.
One thing that doesn’t come yet naturally is the passing ability. If he can develop the drive and the pass to the open man , especially in Mark Poppe offensive system, he will play more minutes.
Next year. , he should get even better.

Perry did not do that bad a job last night for a freshman playing as much as he played, I think he has alot of upside.
I love his toughness 4 steals didn’t back down - I know he will shoot it better from three down the road

He is a freshman and will continue to learn, next year he and Noah and hopefully Chandler will be very much improved.

The OP may be right. You don't have to be the greatest player to be a legend at UK. Look at Richie Farmer, Travis Ford, Anthony Epps, etc. We have had plenty of guys who we hold in high regard because they were on special teams, had special moments, or stuck around long enough to be remembered fondly.
Agree. I wonder how many of us old enough to remember him, thought that Chris Harrison was going to be a legend? In high school he could hit from anywhere.
I think he can be a very good depth piece and morph into a legit 6th man type guy by his senior year. Same with Noah.

Travis is not a great athlete and making the transition from high school to elite Div 1 competition has to be hard (ala Reed going to the NBA). Travis was the big fish, starting for (6 years) and matching up pretty well athletically. Move to UK and face bigger, stronger, and better athletes in the most talented SEC maybe ever from top to bottom. I am sure that the first practices that he, Trent, and Collin participated in were scary. But he is a basketball player with good to very good basketball skills and IQ.
His shot is coming along during the last few games. Anyone that can make 100 free throws in a row obviously has great form and confidence. Against Bama, he was not just on the floor to bring the ball up the court and pass it, but he took advantage by driving past his man and not being timid when he was among the tall timber. He has a good handle and protects the ball well. As he gets older, he will have more shot opportunities and may become a legitimate threat offensively. He is never going to explode to the basket and dunk the ball but that is not needed. Play to your strengths, work on your weaknesses, pick up tips from older players, and work on strength during the offseason. I really hope that the 3 frosh return next season, worried about Collin. They could be the 4 year anchors that this program desperately needs.
I just hope Noah and Perry accept their roles and stay with Kentucky for all 4 years. I know every player wants 30+ min a game but if you are in these two situation you have to stay and go through the growing pains. They have it made in Kentucky for the rest of their lives just have to stick it out and do the hard work.
Perry ever starting would be rough except maybe as his sr year and even then...not sure.

After setting career highs in Kentucky's loss at Alabama, Travis Perry said Kentucky must protect the ball better moving forward.
Dont know about that but have to respect the effort he gave Saturday. Kid said hell with it I'm playing all out. Played some D, went for steals (got a couple) picked a pocket. Love that he wasnt hesitant to mess up. Still a little puzzled why his shot is off some but think most of that is he's shooting rushed a lot, trying to get his shot off in short windows before the defense gets on top of him. The times he's caught it open with space he's still splashing them.
My opinion Travis will be a starter his sr year maybe his jr year he is a lot better player than people believe he is.His defense has improved last few games its just a matter of time when he starts hitting the 3’s consistently
I think he is rushing his shot, too, still adjusting the speed of the game and the height of those typically around him.
He's a very smart kid and is learning quickly ... he'll shoot much better, I think.
His primary focus has been to handle the ball cleanly as PG.
So that's around 36% from 3 for Perry and 33% from Noah? No terrible for freshmen.
I think Pope will work on his conditioning a lot in the off season. Lateral quickness is some you can increase with work.
He definitely needs more quickness and size. I doubt he grows more but speed and quickness will be his targets in my mind.
If Perry ends up being a low usage, minimal mistakes player, that would be fantastic.
For him, that would entail 40+% from 3 and some solid ball handling. He doesn’t need to be a major assist generator as a pure point to be a key cog for a good team.

No question he's clearly flinching some right now due to the speed of the game and length and athleticism of guys coming at him. One of the only open looks he got last week was a look in transition and he shot it almost as soon as it hit his hands. I remember saying, "slow down kid".
In defense of Perry, he got fouled on one of his 3’s that went uncalled.
Amazing fact no turn overs in 28 minutes, 4 steals snd 12 points, that's a good game for anyone, especially on the road in the SEC. I would suggest going to Youtube and looking at games against some really great players. He's not a flamboant type player but is very valuable steady asset to any team. He's improved in all areas during the season, especially on defense. Looking forward to seeing him play gor 3 more years.
