Travis Perry to the portal

The kid wasn't good enough to be here. Ky high school legend, completely overmatched at high D1. I seriously doubt if ANY of the big schools after seeing him play will offer him anything. Would fit well at Murray or someplace similar. Finally he was given a chance by our coach to stay here learn improve and try to help us build something. He chose to leave . I don't want him back as a senior which I also believe has 0 percent chance of ever happening. Much like the kid that decommitted, if he isn't willing to fight for a place in line up WE DONT NEED HIM.

Dude was making 250k here at UK. I don’t think he’s going to get that anywhere else. But the writing was on the wall. Pope realized he wasn’t it after the SEC tournament. Without massive injuries again he wasn’t going to sniff the floor this year either.

Get better and play ln year 3 or 4 or leave. I'm not sure if he wants to play immediately or thinks he's better than he is.

WKU player maybe

BAMA. Cincy, Ole Miss, & WKU sounds like a good spread to me.

More than that. Endorsements and all, he was closer to a million.

I like Perry. He was the only guy that Calipari recruited and stayed with Pope. He was the only player that attended Pope signup in Rupp. He received more minutes than he expected last year due to injuries.

Honestly, I was expecting him to stay for four years at Kentucky and accept his role knowing that he will get better and become an important contributor by JR/ SR year.

I guess he likes playing basketball more than be on Kentucky team and fight to get playing time.

Sad to see that not even Kentucky boys are not staying around anymore. He is not the first one or the last one.

I get to appreciate more a guy like Hawkins, Willis or even Jarrod Polson.

In a sense I feel disappointment with Perry ‘ s decision but I get it. Good luck to him, wherever he goes.

Based on what? Players have been transferring since the dawn of time. From the University of Kentucky even. Joe B Hall transferred in the middle of the season to Sewanee because he could play there the next week.

Players haven't wanted to practice and sit bench since the days of peach basket. Now, it's just easier is all.

http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/statistics/playertransferfromuk.html

According to Jeff Goodman, 10 years ago, there were 251 players in the transfer portal after that season.

This year, well over 2,500.

These are facts.

To act like there hasn't been a massive shift away from developing within one program to simply transferring somewhere new is naive at best and ignorant at worst.

Kids transfer out all the time. I was hoping Perry would develop here but let’s face it; he isn’t able right now to play point in the sec and he was gonna struggle to see floor at the 2. If he wants playing time he isn’t liable to find it this year at Kentucky.

I appreciate the guy signing here when nobody else was here. That says a lot. Good luck and a good career ahead!

Perry was never staying with the guard depth and how the portal is now. Noah is even ahead of him defensively. Too many KY kids on the roster honestly, someone needed to budge.

Micah Shrewsberry recruited him and he wants to add a guard from the portal. Yes, ND is awful, and yes, he would be needed as a set-up guard more than anything, but it would be a chance to play in a power conference and still get PT, along with not being too terribly far from home.

Alas, poor Perry! I knew him. Where be your gibes now? your gambols? your songs? your flashes of merriment that were wont to set the court on a roar? Not one now, to mock your own grinning? Quite chap- fall'n? Now get you to my lady's chamber, and tell her, let her paint an inch thick, to this favour she must come. Make her laugh at that.

If he goes and gets experience, works his ever loving ass off and proves himself he can transfer back. But if there is a Kentucky kid that we might want after this upcoming season it would be Max Green if he proves himself in the Big 10 at Northwestern, has a lot more potential than Perry just due to his size and more athletic, not by a ton but still more athletic than Perry.

I bet we're done and sticking with 12 guys again. If Perry wont stay and accept building himself up to try for rotation spot his junior year then who the Fudge cracker son of shrek is going to come in and be willing to be the break glass in case of emergency 13th guy?

something about perry or green that is super impressive to you other than from kentucky? our literal coach doesnt want them(mean way to put it sure).....i didnt want them....no one linked around the program was high on them.....if we have 12 injuries again this year than sure we could use the likes of perry and green.....i feel like losing 80% of our games with a crappy all kentucky roster would make some people happy

Everyone asking to replace him needs to take a breath. Especially with a 40% 3pt shooter that can contribute. Let’s be logical about minutes and rotations.

I don't think that's what he was saying at all.

Perry just isn't built to compete on this level atm.

I will agree with you on your last sentence though. There are some old heads that think that's still how you play CBB. That world is as ancient and gone as Machu Pichu.

Glad to see everyone taking this well... it's frustrating but more so for a competitive athlete.

Perhaps Perry rejoins us a senior.
It's a business. Once money got openly involved these things were destined to happen.
I don't feel sorry for anyone in college basketball given the amount assigned to NIL contracts.

Lol, well I posted in some thread good riddance to any player who ever left Pope...but in this instance not so much.

Sorry to see this but hope it is strategic. My guess is he winds up at a place like Creighton, Xavier or somewhere similar.
...would be his best move. Maybe he winds up back here in a year or two.

I predict he will go play a few years elsewhere and return for his senior tour as a Wildcat. With how easy it is to transfer nowadays, he will be back IMO.

I'm totally fine with that. I wish he'd stay, but if he wants more playing time elsewhere, I get it. I'd welcome home back with open arms if he wants to finish at UK.

Perry will always be a cat!
Meh. The bar for mythical ‘always a Cat’ status should be a little higher than a lone season averaging less than 3 points off the bench before hitting the portal? Before becoming memorable, isn’t there a required component of accomplishing something memorable? To each their own.

Unfortunately, this becomes an addition by subtraction situation. I wish him the best and think the development away from UK could portend a fortuitous return someday. In all honesty, he is better served getting more PT elsewhere than being buried in this particular roster. I can't see how much better he would fare this next season against average SEC caliber players. Happy he came to play a year for us at a critical time, though. Very grateful.

I could see us staying at 12 now, but I still think a late addition is just as likely. Depends on how confident I'd say the staff feels with what they already got.... or maybe they can get a guy that is a no brainer addition out of what's remains .....

we shall see

I'm the opposite of most, I don't get it. Why give up hundreds of thousands of dollars to go somewhere else just to play? Unless he has ambitions of playing professionally then staying at UK secures your future better.
